  • Great video. I suppose you already know about the 3BillionAndCounting movie?

  • @shempship

But there has been resurgence, Sri Lanka had 2.8 million cases of malaria and 12,500 malaria deaths in the year 1946 alone (before DDT use), in 1963 (after DDT use) the number of malaria cases fell to 17 and the number of deaths fell to 1 (Lockitch). In 1964 Sri Lanka banned DDT and by 1969 Sri Lanka had 500,000 cases of malaria and 113 deaths (Hecht).

Liberals act like they are helping the downtrodden, but in reality they don’t give a shit about anyone who is nonwhite.

  • Get your facts straight: There was no ban on DDT from 1972 to 2006 that could have prevented it's use in malaria control. Non-public health uses were banned--in the US--starting in 1972, but was a US EPA action that applied to the US only. South Africa, India, and many other countries have used DDT almost continuously throughout this period when you allege it was banned. Since 2004, using DDT in agriculture has been banned globally, but public health uses are expressly allowed.

  • @TupperKA Do your own research before criticizing a video I made in high school.

"the 1972 ban in the United States led to an effective worldwide ban, as countries dependent on U.S.-funded aid agencies curtailed their DDT use to comply with those agencies' demands." - Dr. Keith Lockitch (PhD in physics, is a fellow at the Ayn Rand Institute in Irvine, Calif.)

  • You present some great facts here. But the music is not great, and kind of made me want to turn it off, and I am VERY pro-DDT

  • Malaria does not cause sickle cell anaemia...

  • @greenpaintify

sickle cell is evolution's reaction to malaria.

  • @greenpaintify

You tube won't let me post urls...

  • Thank you so much for answering my question. You should check out my blog, you'll find a link to it under websites.

  • So, DDT was banned in Europe, and America. How was that ban enforced upon the Third World? Do you have a source on this?

  • Merry Christmas!

I dont really have the time to find the exact source I used, but just Google it and youll find it. Dr. Keith Lockitch who has a PhD in Physics says that the 1972 ban in the United States led to an effective worldwide ban, as countries dependent on U.S.-funded aid agencies curtailed their DDT use to comply with those agencies' demands. (I can't post urls so type the following in without the spaces)

  • agh.... youtube won't let me post URLs... to find the article Google Search " ayn rand institute Reject Environmentalism, Not DDT"

  • Slide 1:34 shows how affective DDT is and how it eradicated Malaria in Sri Lanka. Slide 2:02 explains that DDT is so cheap that even the poorest of countries can use it. If DDT had been legal, they could have used it to save themselves from Malaria. For all future inquires please watch the entire video, the credits, and read the information bar on the right; before asking me.

  • This is an excelent video. It's absolutely clear that the ban on DDT resulted in millions of excese deaths, but is that "genocide"? No, genocide is the INTENTIONAL elimination of people, it was not the intention of environmentalits to see millions die. Therefore, they aren't guilty of "genocide", they're just stupid, and perhapse a little callous. Other than that I agree with the message of the video.

  • I guess you're right, it's not "genocide," but I have read articles saying that the ban on DDT was motivated by people who believed in Malthus disaster theories. They see malaria as a method of population control over the third world. I didn't use any of those articles in my video, because I didn't think they were creditable enough, but it's still a plausible idea.

  • Perhaps, each country affected by malaria should develop their own chemical/insecticide solution based on what is right for them. Although, that would probably be disagreeable to commercial producers of ddt. Wouldn't it?

Someone has to want to make money out of another's misery. Unless they want to donate it as an aid. As you said TijoKjose they are already poor. In the long run any purchase becomes a costly solution.

  • If they were capable of producing better pesticides by themselves, they would have done it already. But they dont have the technology. In my logic class your argument would be called an "Ad Hominem." So, what if they make profit off DDT? Profit isn't evil, it's a representation of productivity. If I were in their position I would pay the $1.44 per year, to protect my kids from malaria. Pay attention to the video before posting another comment.

  • Any form of unnatural death, be it from mosquito diseases, crimes, war or ill health should be a horrific thing. We shouldn't differentiate from any of them. Neither is better than the other.

  • Therefor... legalize DDT worldwide and fuck environmentalist hysteria.

  • Not really... ddt is not the root cause of malaria is it? It is just a temporary fix. They really have to find out why mosquitoes are proliferating in those areas and then do something about it.

  • The mosquitoes have been "proliferating" for thousands of years. The people live in tropical climates and have always been plagued by mosquitoes. This isn't a new problem. Malaria is responsible for half of all human deaths since the Stone Age. Its just nature and nature sucks. We need to use DDT to put an end to this thousand year tragedy.

DDT is a PERMANENT solution. The US and Europe used it to eradicate malaria. If you refer to clips 1:35 to 1:21 and youll see how effective DDT is.

  • This is a lobbyist's video! The true causes of the proliferation of mosquitoes have not been disclosed nor addressed. At times it is due to improper land use... living near swamps, even cities have malaria and other mosquito born diseases cause of open gutters, dumpsites and unsanitary living conditions and surroundings. Hope they do something about these as well.

  • These poor farmers need to farm in these mosquitoes infested regions, because its the only fertile farm land they have. The land that is away from mosquitoes is the land that is land that is too far from water sources to hydrate crops. I too hope they do something. They should give people DDT so they can protect themselves.

  • Remember, death is a natural thing. We are not doing a genocide, because we ban a thing that saves us from dieing but kills nature. Its saving our future to ban it.. I wish people who want ddt back used their time to come up with other ideas to help us from malaria. Then we could make a real change. I personally will invest in trying to destroy malaria, but we cant risk nature for it, its risking ourselves... or the quality of life.

  • It's a nice idea, but existing alternatives are too expensive for the poor to buy, or they are ineffective.

    See clips. 2:02 and 2:14

DDT is the best solution we have. We can't wait for someone to invent another solution, we don't have the time. Every 30 seconds a child dies of malaria. Each of those kids are worth more to me than every bird in the world. If you disagree, then whatever, you're entitled to an opinion.

  • Perhaps better land use... away from malaria infested areas would be your answer. If the lands are publicly owned... government can make better development plan so human can coexist with nature better.

  • Better land use the only way to use land more efficiently is to use Genetically Engineered food, which can produce more food, using less land, water, and energy. However, environmentalists like you have an irrational fear of GE crops as well.

The government? Are you intentionally trying to be stupid? Thats called collectivization they tried it on Soviet farms, the result was mass starvation.

  • Using DDT against malaria is a suicide for our future nature and our future bodies, creating real complicated problems like cancer and so forth, making more millions of people die. Perhaps even destroying Africa. Yes, pesticides like ddt is most likley the root to the huge risk of people getting cancer these days. There are other ways of solving these problems. And radiofreewisconsin, the comment you made was extremly dumb.. We are apart of nature, killing animals is killing ourselves.

  • If you paid attention to the video, you would notice that DDT is NOT carcinogenic.

    See clips 2:57, 3:15, 3:26, and 3:31

It is as harmful to humans as aspirin. The risk of 3 million malaria victims per year outweighs the .001% risk of cancer.

  • I would rather see 100 Species go extinct, than see the death of one innocent human being.

  • Extinction for a considerably great number of species may likewise be a death toll for the human species. Please think about this. We humans are not invinsible as this video shows. Other insects that prey on mosquitoes are also being killed by ddt... this may also include frogs and lizards.

  • There is no scientific evidence that suggests that destroying an animal food chain would adversely affect humans.

  • Where did you learn this?

  • Do you live in hunt-and-gather society or do you buy your food from a farmer who grows crops and raises animals? Unless youre out hunting quail and wild geese, you are not a part of the natural food chain. You are part of the artificial food chain which is unaffected by DDT.

  • or buy a net

  • It only takes ONE mosquito bite to get malaria. They can't wear nets 24 hours a day. The people of the developing world often are farmers or fishermen. They have to work in hot climates. The nets can easily break and it's hard to wear them while working. Also nets cost $10 per person. People in third world countries live on less than one dollar per day, they they can't afford it. DDT is cheaper and lasts longer.

  • What's the name of the first song?

  • The first music you hear is the Resident Evil Theme Song.

  • Oh yeah I thought I heard it before. Thanks

  • Excellent video Tijo. Very informative and it also made me believe that re-legalizing DDT is the right thing to do. I would recommend this video to others as well. Gotta love your everything in your info pane as well, especially that last line. Haha =P
