Highland players are some of the All Blacks biggest fans. When I started playing for Highland in the 80's our coach showed us All Blacks videos to teach us the proper way to play. We did not have this sport on our TV's. I have been an All Blacks fan ever since. As a NZ lander you should be proud that your national team has a dedicated following in the US. Highland does tour and has played teams from NZ, England, Wales and Zimbabwe. What a great sport. Thanks for sharing.

If the U.S. had a stronger rugby base at younger age groups I think you would find it become much stronger at its high school and national levels. It would be very difficult of course given that American hasn't got a rugby past and most kids would opt to play football or basketball of something of the like. But the thing that makes rugby strong in countries such as New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, England, France etc is that kids start playing from the ages of 5 or 6.

Highland's coach is a great man, an incredible coach and the godfather of Utah rugby. I was the scrum half on Highland's first national championship team, when there was only one other high school team in Utah and we had to play college teams and travel to other states to get games. We played Kahuku and Farrington on Oahu and Burlingame in CA. Now there are at least 14 high school teams in Utah. They wouldn't exist without the attention Highland's success brought to the sport. last time highland played a team from england (prince Edward) they barely lost 29-20 if you guys are so great you should have crushed them. highland then went on and defeated ysgol glantaf of wales 31-12.

In the same tournament, HR beat Ysgol Glantaf from Wales and then went on to beat Tupou College (HS), the national champion of Tonga, 25-24. The last English team Highland played was the Duke of York (April 7, 2001) and beat them 42-9. It was the only DofY loss on their Canada-USA tour.
