Ok. So the person who posted this video claimed the "artist" starved the dog to death, but I see a lot of comments saying the dog was only exhibited for a few hours and then released. If that's true, then whoever made this video needs to stick to the facts and not make things up. But if this "artist" wanted to make a statement he should have been a man and had the dog euthanized afterward instead of releasing it back on the streets.

There is absolutely no evidence that this dog died in the museum. There is also no evidence that the dog survived. The only facts we have is that in 2007 a dog was in a state of starvation and thousands of people were in outcry about it.
But at this very moment there is another starving dog on the street. Where's the petition for that dog? There is also a human being starving to death. Where's the petition for him/her? All I see in these comments is people wishing death upon another person.

How would you define this animal abuse? Is the animal being abused because it's not being fed? During those 3 hours do you think this stray dog would have eaten if they never picked it up from the street?

There are thousands of stray dogs starving and dying in Costa Rica as I type this and people just walk past and ignore it. What makes this one dog so different? To create art, you have to be the 'creator' of something worthy of peoples interest. Interest in YOUR creation. To choose to capture an emaciated dog & tie him/her up in a corner, is NOT art. It is however cruel, & shows a lack of imagination. Every time I rescue an emaciated animal, I see true ART, when that animal gains weight & trust & inspires me to photograph him/her or capture the story in words. I rescue animals because I respect them, & nothing would have stopped me from taking this dog.

In response to this exhibition I haven't seen any petitions for "Help all the stray dogs in Costa Rica". I've only seen comment after comment of people wishing death upon another human being. Its a social piece showing society's adherense to rule to the point of irrationality. Because the artist said "don't feed the dog or give the dog water" the people passing through the exhibit obeyed. This blind obedience in spite of morality makes it a tragedic piece, but had someone cut the rope then it would have been a beautiful piece about a person whose compassion leads him to necessary rebellion. The question is why didn't anyone cut the rope? What does that say about society?

The stray dog was found on the street in a state of starvation. (There are many unowned, dying animals out there as I type this.) Vargas moved this dog from the street into a museum room, fed it, and then presented it to the public for his exhibition. After three hours, the exhibition closed and he released the dog. It ran away.
The dog did not die at this museum. Nobody murdered anybody. The current 'top comment' for this video is "Can we tie this guy against a wall and leave him to die pls?"

I'm pretty sure this "artist" loves the attention. The gallery audience's reaction could be considered art though. It shows the apathy of the general public towards anyone but themselves. On some level, it also does make you question what art is. If that's the case, the artist is incredibly cruel, but also a genius.... or he's just a retard.... you decide.

I'm not saying that this is correct, I'm not saying that at all, but this 'art' was 'made' in an attempt to draw attention to dogs such as this one; living on the streets, being shunned by people, starving slowly, eating only bad scraps they can find. I find that there are plenty of ways to draw attention to this problem without making an animal starve to death like this but his 'art' has drawn a lot of attention t the problem, like videos like these for example.

There is absolutely no evidence that this dog died in the museum. There is also no evidence that the dog survived. The only facts we have is that in 2007 a dog was in a state of starvation and thousands of people were in outcry about it.
But at this very moment there is another starving dog on the street. Where's the petition for that dog? There is also a human being starving to death. Where's the petition for him/her? All I see in these comments is people wishing death upon another person.

How would you define this animal abuse? Is the animal being abused because it's not being fed? Then why, when you walk past a homeless starving man on your way to work and you don't offer him any food, are you not considered an abuser? And before you say "I didn't tie a dog to a wall" you should be informed that this exhibition lasted 3 hours after which the dog was untied and released. During those 3 hours do you think this stray dog would have eaten if they never picked it up from the street?

There are thousands of stray dogs starving and dying in Costa Rica as I type this and people just walk past and ignore it. What makes this one dog so different? If Vargas is an animal abuser for not feeding that dog, then everyone who walks past the starving animals (and humans) on the streets are also abusers.

HE had no pity for that dog, so who is HE to make any statement about this? And then again, there's that awful crowd to account for...not ONE having pity and stepping outside their own comfort. As a rescuer and keeper of former street dogs, the situation is overwhelming, but we do what we can...AS EVERY HUMAN BEING SHOULD.

To create art, you have to be the 'creator' of something worthy of peoples interest. Interest in YOUR creation. To choose to capture an emaciated dog & tie him/her up in a corner, is NOT art. It is however cruel, & shows a lack of imagination. Every time I rescue an emaciated animal, I see true ART, when that animal gains weight & trust & inspires me to photograph him/her or capture the story in words. I rescue animals because I respect them, & nothing would have stopped me from taking this dog.

In response to this exhibition I haven't seen any petitions for "Help all the stray dogs in Costa Rica". I've only seen comment after comment of people wishing death upon another human being. And I bet when you people next walk past a starving, homeless person on the street you won't try to help, you'll just ignore it. And then you'll go home and eat animal meat for your dinner. Its a social piece showing society's adherense to rule to the point of irrationality. Because the artist said "don't feed the dog or give the dog water" the people passing through the exhibit obeyed. This blind obedience in spite of morality makes it a tragedic piece, but had someone cut the rope then it would have been a beautiful piece about a person whose compassion leads him to necessary rebellion. The question is why didn't anyone cut the rope? What does that say about society?

The stray dog was found on the street in a state of starvation. (There are many unowned, dying animals out there as I type this.) Vargas moved this dog from the street into a museum room, fed it, and then presented it to the public for his exhibition. After three hours, the exhibition closed and he released the dog. It ran away.
The dog did not die at this museum. Nobody murdered anybody. The current 'top comment' for this video is "Can we tie this guy against a wall and leave him to die pls?"

What I find worse, however, is probably the hundreds of people that attended the exhibit, and not one of them stood up to him and take a risk and set the dog free, or at least sneak him some food/water. I'm pretty sure this "artist" loves the attention. The gallery audience's reaction could be considered art though. It shows the apathy of the general public towards anyone but themselves. On some level, it also does make you question what art is. If that's the case, the artist is incredibly cruel, but also a genius.... or he's just a retard.... you decide.

I'm not saying that this is correct, I'm not saying that at all, but this 'art' was 'made' in an attempt to draw attention to dogs such as this one; living on the streets, being shunned by people, starving slowly, eating only bad scraps they can find. I find that there are plenty of ways to draw attention to this problem without making an animal starve to death like this but his 'art' has drawn a lot of attention t the problem, like videos like these for example.

if anyone actually did any research on this. the guy did this to raise awareness. to raise a point. im not saying its right. but dogs like this starve and die everyday in 3rd world countries. unfourtunatly, this dog would have died either way. he wanted people to see it, to make a change. sometimes art is more then "a pretty picture" look at how much awarness this has gotten. maybe people will try to help the situation instead of just walking by. :)

as sick as this Guillermo Vargas Habacuc guy is, i think the really sick thing was that, people went to see this and did nothing to stop it. I can understand why he did it, and the idea and concept behind it (although i do not condone it in the slightest) but i dont see how people could be in the same gallery let alone the same room as that and let it happen. this is one of the many many reasons why i hate people, how can they stand by and watch this happen, not only to animals but other humans.
