Also what I find interesting is the state of current Apple design versus a few years ago in the pre-Intel but final half of the PowerPC days. All the clear plastic and bright colors seem almost juvenile in comparison to the current style of Apple design. However I am a closet fan of the Apple Cube as well as the early Cinema/Studio displays that had the clear lining with three point (two front, single back) stand mounting. I'd buy it if I saw it at a second hand store.
I like Apple design, I just hate the lack of modularity and the expense. And of course I hate the fanboys XD
One of my personal favorite things that Apple designed into the past two/three generations of iMacs, Macbooks, and the Cinema Displays is the black bezel that surrounds the gorgeous (but pricey) monitors they use. Not only does it look nice, but it helps to create a boundary so it seems more focused and undisturbed, much like an art gallery with white or black walls.
Great to see Rams also in this video, he deserves the credits!
And i really hope Ive will go on stage now and do the presentations, he is such a calm man where i could listen for hours to, just because of his voice. I think he can sell the products like Jobs did. (i hope)
@vertevero Apple is well known to conduct their business honestly and environmentally mindfully. Do yourself a favor and read: apple.com/environment. Also, try to go to an Apple Store and try an Apple product.
@pingguo2 Good on them for being more green. The dirty business practices I'm talking about are the anti-competitive practices that they use their patents for, i.e. trying to stop a competitor (Android) from producing. Here's a good example of Apple's "innovation", which Android is infringing on: i. imgur. com/xbQvI.jpg
@vertevero The problem of patents is a tricky issue and Apple as a company does not have control of the health of the patent system. What they do do is innovate, which they do well. I saw the picture you linked to, and I get the point, but that only seems absurd because of the patent system, which has nothing to do with Apple's innovation.
@notmack Well, other than basic food and clothing no one needs anything. Our entire planet is full of superfluous crap. Some make ugly superfluous crap, some make beautiful superfluous crap. If i'm going to own something I don't need, then it might as well be nice to look at.
That's Dieter Rams. The guy who inspired Jonathan Ives himself. He's supposed to be one of the greatest designers ever and been the design chief of Braun for many decades.
The uploader should not have ignored Dieter Rams in the description or title. It's a great moment to have him like that on video.
I can't think of anyone who couldn't take note of the brilliance in the way Ive thinks. Even down to the way he talks, very calm....I really could listen to him all day and not be bored.
one of the biggest reasons Apple is so successful is their unwavering desire to make the BEST products they can make, without regard for price. i personally prefer PCs yet my first experience with a computer was with a Mac.
I'm a PC guy but also love Apple (i believe it's rare to find people like me). Currently in my second year of studying Industrial design. The more I learn about design, the more I realise how good Apple are.
@snare123 On the contrary, anyone who uses a computer and doesn't appreciate the beauty of things like this is either willfully resisting or just doesn't care. Peace to you.
Jony Ive is always the highlight of all Apple product movies. Just his calm but at the same time energetic way to talk about what he has been part of designing must alone have sold many Apple products. He really makes you understand the premiumness of Apple products and the advantages Apples concepts have.

i'm not an apple user, but there are only a few tech companies with excellently designed products, e.g. apple and b&o.

I wouldn't say they are innovative, but rather, they are talented at making things that people don't need but make them want it in the worst way

@ChanonPongpanich It's Dieter Rams. He was the designer of BRAUN. The German part is great for me because I'm German.
