What about this: A person is on the health plan, goes to the doctor, and the doctor prescribes something improper like Prozac, Ritalin, abortin, vasectomy, electroshock, flu vaccine, RFID chip "to streamline medical records," or some new concoction containing who-knows-what. The patient refuses it. The government kicks him off the plan, saying that refusal of "treatment" will make him sicker and cost more money. Now, with no health plan, they put him in jail until he accepts it.

I have no problem with paying higher taxes, and I'm making less then 35k in a good year, as long as EVERYONE has guaranteed coverage. I do DO NOT WANT my health coverage to be dependent on my employment, because this alone makes me wage slave. There is NEVER a shortage of money when it comes to wars, new weapon systems and golf courses for members of Congress. The most recent EMERGENCY War spending bill to the tune of $ 105 billion included weapon systems which not even the Pentagon wanted.

Im no economist Ted. But I agree with you the healthcare problem is primarily a supply side issue (outrageous costs). Mandating health insurance coverage addresses a demand issue. The HMOs and the healthcare industry are all salivating at their collective mouths—greater demand means higher prices. Far from addressing the problem, this only makes it worse.

since govt is run by corporations, then total govt mandated health care would be another facist nightmare. I'm not sure health care should totally be in the free market either. but if there isn't profit, then no incentive for some providers and we get a shortage? maybe a mix of profit and non-profit health care system. I hear ya about "non-profit" hospitals, etc. our local hospital has that designation and the director makes a quarter mil in a small podunk town.

Hiya Ted. North American Union. ( new agreement). Though it is already been underway for well over two years. About 8 months ago I went to my grocery for a relaxing stroll through the many fine products tha tI could take home to fatten my family and myself with. To my dismay, all the meat (cuts..beef, pork, etc.) was in packaging (done at this particular store) that were labeled as the following ; "A Product of Canada, The United States, and Mexico". I knew at that moment we were fucked.

In Ireland taxi hit me on bike one night and I ended up in hospital taken by ambulance where I was x-rayed, kept overnight and given breakfast. I was billed about $30 for that. I had NO medical cover whatsoever.

US Pharma has factories here (Ireland) but Irish medical service may not use generic drugs which are cheaper!
