What happens when you die? Have you told lies, stolen, used God's name in vain(10 Commandments)? If yes, then you're a liar, thief, and a blasphemer in the sight of God. When you die & be judged by God, you'll be guilty of sin, & go to Hell! But God sent His Son Jesus to shed His blood & die on a cross for your sins, He was buried & rose again from the dead on the third day. If you'll believe the Gospel(Jesus died for your sins, was buried & resurrected)you'll not perish & have eternal life
NO WHERE in the Bible was the baptism 'INTO THE MAME' of Jesus, associated with water. John the Baptist himself said Jesus would baptize with the 'Holy Spirit & Fire'. So,why are silly,so called Christians, baptizing in water, when the Bible never instructs us to?1Pet3:21,Col 2:8-13<---- Water useless,& without hands.
Baptism into the 'NAME' of Jesus has nothing to do with water. No where in the Scripture is there a command to be baptized in water.I challenge anyone to show me chapter & verse.
john chapter 3 verse 5 clearly demands water baptism, unless a man be born of water and of spirit he will not enter heaven. and when you refer to col 12 what do you think buried with him means, we should stick you in the dirt roll you around and call you baptised, you don't believe because god has closed your heart and understanding to his word.just like isaiah prophesied.
@jacob Baptism is not found in John3:5, nor is it in Titus 3:5, yet washing is performed by the Spirit.Jesus is following Nicodemus' question;"Can a man enter his mother's womb"speaking of physical birth.Born of water is everyone's 1st birth as everyone knows, a woman 'breaks water' pursuant to giving birth. So, your use of the word 'clearly' is clearly a misnomer & is used in a highly subjective manner. People were not buried down in the ground, like Jesus they were lain in tombs.
@TroddinSod what about Matthew 3, 13-16.it is true that water itself does not contain any saving virtue, but God has chosen to include it in His plan of salvation. Peter explained, "Baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ" (I Peter 3:21).
@TroddinSod i choose to believe it on faith. by grace are we saved through faith that not of ourselves, it is the gift of god. i wish i could do everything god tells me too, because were not special, he could snap his fingers, wipe us all out and start over from scratch and we would not have clue or know any different.
@jacob1 corinthians 6 9-11 the greek word for washed is baptizo. " Yes that's right, and the text says that the 'washing' was done by the Holy Spirt, NOT WATER, and this harmonizes perfectly with Titus 3:5.
Acts 8; The Eunuch was NOT Baptized 'IN THE NAME' which is why there was water, It was probably customary 'Gentile to Jew conversion baptism' that's why there was water, and not the baptism IN THE NAME.Also, the Eunuch was not commanded to be baptized. It was his idea, Not Philips.
@TroddinSod well then lets pray real hard about it and see what god says, cause he has a voice, and on judgement day will find out who is right and who is wrong. and in the mean time ill be praying for you as well my friend, i choose to love as god loves.
@jacobvincentmay "i choose to love as god loves." Do you really know how God loves? How did God love the Canaanites in Joshua 11:20? or all those He destroyed in the flood? How about Esau and the Edomites? Romans 9:13, Malachi 1:3.
@TroddinSod When you are baptized in water, a work of God is done in your life. The gospel preached by the apostles was the DEATH, BURIAL & RESURRECTION of Jesus. How do you identify with Jesus' death? You repent. This is a way of DYING. How do you take on Jesus' BURIAL? You are baptized in water (buried with Him in baptism). How do you take on His resurrection? You are given the Gift of the Holy Ghost. These are ALL works of God. Repentance, water baptism and Holy Ghost infilling.
@TroddinSod Isn't it wonderful that the scripture so clearly tells us to be baptized that the preacher Phillip did not have to tell the eunuch? He saw it plainly for himself in the scripture. You can too. Do you see it as clearly as the eunuch did?
@jhall38 NO WHERE IS THERE A COMMAND TO BE BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OFJESUS WITH WATER. SIMPLY NOWHERE. The Eunuch was NOT baptized in Jesus' Name. The question to Peters question in Acts 10, is; YES, we can forbid water! Therefore, he commanded that they be immersed in THE NAME of Jesus, NOT WATER. You're blinded by tradition and cliche thought.
@TroddinSod God alone can open your eyes, but it's worth noting that your hermeneutic is poor. The text does not say, as you claim, that the eunuch was not baptized in Jesus' name. You are arguing from silence. Be silent where scripture is silent. What was done elsewhere was probably as well done here. Your supposed response to Peter's question is also not in the text and goes against the implication of it. Peter asks for water for baptism. He wanted them baptized. Water would be needed.
@TroddinSod Now that claim is just silly. "The question to Peters question in Act 10, is; YES, we can forbid water!" (I think you meant "answer" to Peter's question)You are out on a broken limb here. What would be the sense of Peter making a reference to people being baptized and asking whether anyone would say that water wasn't required? That would make Peter sound as if he were on a quest to stop people from using water in baptism. "Water that these should be baptized" CONTRADICTS you.
@jhallYou're hanging on a silly tradition of ritualistic men. What more would the Philipians need 'seeing they have received the Holy Ghost'?That's the context of Peter's rhetorical question.THERE'S NO WATER BAPTISM FOLLOWING THE 'IMMERSION' OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.You're found wanting & simply presuming the word 'baptisma' means water. You're flat wrong. You're reducing the true meaning of discipleship & being 'immersed' in the Character of Christ w/ a silly water ritual which avails nothing.
@TroddinSod You who are expert in ADDING WORDS TO SCRIPTURE tell me! You think the apostle thought nothing was needed for these new Gentile believers after they received the Holy Ghost? Where'd you get that idea, from Sears? Really! You're making things up. He COMMANDED THEY BE baptized AFTER they had received the Holy Ghost. He wasn't repeating himself like U. He was telling them that water would be needed now so these people could OBEY the command. Them's the facts, hoss. Deal with it.
@TroddinSod May God forgive you for teaching men NOT to do what he has commanded. The Lord Himself commanded us, "Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost; Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." Baptism is "for the remission of sins. "Repentance AND remission of sins should be preached in his name" (Matt 28, Lk 24).
@TroddinSod Acts 10 "Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus." If you were standing there with these first Gentile believers in Jesus, would you be the one to shout, "Don't baptize them in water! No, we don't want them baptized, so we ain't giving you no stinking water! That's meaningless!" Or would you say, "No, we don't forbid water, so baptize them!"
@TroddinSod Does repentance avail nothing? Does having your sins washed away in baptism avail nothing? Does receiving the Holy Ghost where there is EVIDENCE avail nothing? You should not presume to know all of the acts of God which avail MUCH. There is much that God does that avails! Repentance is God's work, not man's. Water baptism is God's work when it is done as the answering of a good conscience to God. Receiving the Holy Ghost is God's work when it is REAL, signs following.
@TroddinSod I understand. Immersion into Jesus' name is a lovely idea, really. We should immerse our lives in His Name, doing all things in His name, building our lives on the confession of His name. However, this lovely idea does not have to built on the desecration of water baptism. Water baptism is repeatedly mentioned LITERALLY in terms of going down into water from Jesus' water baptism in the River Jordan to the eunuch's attention to the detail of WATER when he asked to be baptized.
@TroddinSod The direct implication of Peter's expression "water that these should be baptized" is that water is required for baptism. He is implying that water is needed if someone is going to be baptized in the way that he means. He most certainly does not mean to be talking about some kind of baptism that does not require water. If he did, his question would be ignorant. In other words, if he meant to say that water wasn't required for baptism, he would not have subordinated baptism to it.
@jhall38 You hermeneutic is from silence sir.The Eunuch was NOT baptized in Jesus' Name which indicates it wasn't the same & was gentile conversion baptism required of a Gentile to Judaism - we was worshiping in Jerusalem & had the Scriptures on him. The baptism of Christ, as John the Baptist said would be with the Holy Spirit & Fire, NOT WATER. Peter in 1Peter 3:21 "NOT the removal of filth from the flesh" = NO water.Don't let traditions of men spoil your 'immersion' in the Character of Christ.
@TroddinSod You DO NOT know in what manner the eunuch was baptized, since it wasn't mentioned. Once again you're putting words in someone's mouth. Let him speak. You be silent where he is silent. John no where says "You're not going to be baptized in water." Quit lying for your theology. You twist scripture. Water baptism is NOT for cleaning the filthiness of the flesh. It's not taking a bath! If that's what you think it is, your sins won't be washed away. Why so afraid of water?
@jacob "1 peter 3, 20-21" Are you nuts? IT says in no uncertain terms NOT THE REMOVAL OF FILTH FROM THE FLESH. Just what do you think removes filth from the flesh? Here Peter, affirms MY point, not yours. He is saying IT IS NOT WATER.
Besides, the ark was NOT baptized by water, the earth was, and it was God's wrath. Here water baptism brought death & destruction.
The ark was baptized or 'immersed' in 'Pitch - "while the ark was preparing" Gen6:14
@TroddinSod The scripture is telling you that baptism is not the same as taking a bath. It is not the work of a man trying to cleanse himself. It is the work of God to wash away sins with blood. Being baptized is the answering of your conscience. It is being obedient so that He can do His work in your life, applying the effects of Jesus' burial in your life. Do you want to be buried with Jesus in baptism? If you do, you'll also want to be raised with Him in newness of life.
@jacob You're a compulsive poster. Yet none of your posts prove anything. The challenge is to show a verse that has a 1)A COMMAND to be baptized 2)IN THE NAME OF JESUS 3) and IN WATER.
I assure you it is nowhere to be found.
Your problem is that whenever you see the word 'baptism' you automatically assume it's water. This is a big problem in Christianity, they've never translated the word baptism, it's simple a transliteration. Try this, instead of baptism, read instead 'immerse' or 'whelm'.
@TroddinSod Acts 2:38 "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost". Peter commanded baptism. "Then they that gladly received his word were baptized". Have you gladly received the word and been baptized in Jesus' name? When the Holy Ghost fell on the first Gentiles, the apostle said "who can forbid WATER that these should be baptized who have received the Holy Ghost as well as we...?"
Glad that Jessie has repented, but Jesus himself told his disciples to baptize in the name of the Father abd of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Jessie's baptizm left out two of these very essential persons of the Holy Trinity.
@sasga2000 if they had used the titles, he would not have got the holy ghost, and would have got wet for nothing. you know how much it cost to dry your clothes these days.
WTG Jessie! Feels good doesn't it? I was baptised less than a month ago and it's amazing how God fills you with the Holy Spirit and you begin to change as a new creation. Things I tried to quit doing for years became so simple to get over with the help of the Lord. It's hard to explain to those who have never had the wonderful gift but to those who have...you know the feeling!
