INTERVIEWER: For all those out there who like Europé what´s so special with this album?
JOEY: Oh wow this is a real good classic rock album with a modern punchy sound.
We´ve done it again! This is for real. Great songs, big choruses, damn good guitar playing.
It´s a tailwind in the Europe camp right now. We´re really happy and we´re going on a long tour and the album will be released now in september so check it out!
JOEY: We played at big festivals this summer and we noticed a new younger audience in the front row. So we are greatful for that. There are people who are interested in checking us out. Maybe because they like the new albums, we´ve done three since the reunion, or maybe they like to see us play an old song live, e.g The Final Countdown.
So we´re very fortunate. We have a new audience, a big audience. We have a fantastic job.
INTERVIEWER: Who came up with the riff for The Final Countdown?
JOEY: I did. In high school I borrowed a keyboard from Mic Michaeli, who wasn´t in the band at that time but later. I was fascinated about mixing synths and rock music. And there was a period during the 80s where this was popular. For example Jump with Van Halen and Take On Me with A-ha. I wanted to experiment a bit. But the song was released first on the third Europe album.
So then we decided to make an opening track for the shows and the album. It´s more than 6.5 min long so the was absolutely no idea to make a hit song.
We made an album track that´s actually got wings and has it´s own life and it´s used for so
many things. But it´s still great playing it live.
Exclusive for Press2 Play I want to say that we never listen to it in private life but we love to play it live. It was made for our fans and there´s one hell of a party when we play it.
INTERVIEWER: What about the rock star life now compared to 20 years ago?
JOEY: We´re maybe one of the hardest working bands in Scandinavia. We plan things better. We don´t do 8-months-tours any longer. Now we know we´re doing tours for 2 years but we plan it very well. We´re not away more than 3-4 weeks from our families. So it is a little more organized now. We have control, we own our music, we license it when it´s done, live money goes back in our company for our next shows.
So it´s more organized but it´s still fun and somethimes we have a party. Oh yeah! Some Absint and Corona then it´s ok!
NORUM: I have a hangover today. That´s why I use sun-glasses. I was partying yesterday.
JOEY: Sometimes it´s like this. They plan things so strange. It´s better having photo sessions in the afternoon and in the mornings you can do radio shows cause noone can see you!
INTERVIEWER: You both have fantastic hair. Can you give any advise?
NORUM: A lot of beer. There´re much b-vitamins in beer. The only disadvantage of beer is that you get round and fat! Otherwise it´s great. So take your vitamins.
Hi, and thanks, really great video, they are simply the best! I like the part at the end..lots of beer and vitamins will make your hair stay on the scalp... :) :) :)
