Since the slider theme was often used in penguin-like races in the game, and Mario has the habit of getting new powers with new caps, I imagined he could get super-penguin-sliding powers by grabbing the penguin cap. Although I had no idea at that time, that the penguin suit would actually be included in the game by Nintendo a few years later.

Then again, 64 lives would have been a cool title as well.
