if there ever were ghosts at this place, this woman's annoying loud mouth drove them out of there long ago. If this gasbag ever encountered a spirit, she'd shit her pants.
@CreedFan62 they didnt have the medical technology to cure infections back then. a broken arm could lead to a severe infection which probably killed the child. so i guess she really should have said "died from an infection as a result of a broken arm" but ohh well :)

am i hallucinating or if you pause at 1:55 there is what i would call a clown demon face skull on the wall in front of his face in light shading and a 1911 pistol in heavy shading to far right pointing downward, i see one eye a nose and a mouth and skull it kinda looks shot in the head i see it from 1:52 -55ish eyes playin tricks? across from his chinis the eye then uner that the nose and then the mouth right eye isa missing , i know the (gun) is spray paint but still
state hospitals were used for the mentally ill, people that were retarded, and any time someone wanted to put away a person for various reasons. Later on i think and even now they are still used for the mentally ill but beds are scarce because of budget cuts ans they offered half way houses and out patient therapy for the people that need them. But, many fall through the cracks because there is not room for them anywhere.
I was just woundering, the lady giving the tour, is she the owner or something, or did she run the hospital??? iam curious because she keeps refering the hospital as hers, she is always saying we as if she has been there running the place since it opened.
I grew up in Bartonville Ill and everyone there has a story about the asylum. Almost all of my friends at Limestone High say their mom or dad worked there and yes, they all saw 'something'. In fact, my so called friends used to make me cry, saying they were going to drop me off there. LOL!! creepy!!!
So why are state hospitals still used for this purpose? Psych wards are typically integrated in Department of Corrections since those who typically need a psych ward comitted a crime and if they didn't, this is why we have hospitals with secured psych units. My only thing is State Wards are kind of a waste of money since there are two main spots one could go for psych inpatient treatment
Ghosts/spirits don't appear when you want them to especially adult spirits so if you were there as teenagers and you didn't see anything they didn't want to show themselves to you; I've seen my dad in only in 1 picture with my grandson that's it he doesn't show himself but only that 1 time a year ago
I have been in here once before. Its really not creepy at all. I took a lot of pictures on every floor and nothing ever showed up. Then finally we went back to the third floor and said "if anyone is in here could we please take a picture of you?". We took a picture and tons of orbs showed up. And keep in mind we took a picture of the third floor hallway without saying anything, and nothing showed up. It really is an wesome place to visit!
I lived next to this place for years when it was completely closed. We regularly snuck in all the buildings as teens, (they're connected by tunnels) - as well as the 2 drawer morgue. There were critters; squirrels/rabbits/coons in the buildings, but never ghosts... It's now being reused for various purposes, but was completely abandoned for many years, like a small town completely evacuated. Extremely cool, but not haunted. "Demonologist" doing weddings. Right. Teen vandals is what you see.
towards the end when she is at the bottom of the stairs in the basement talking about people leaving on the wall thre is a shadow like someone walks by.
My grandma was in that hospital. They didn't treat their patients good at all. They gave her shock treatments and when my family went to visit her, she was crawling around on all fours. She's still alive today, but that place ruined her. She now acts like a small child. I'm not surprised there are tormented souls there.
i'm pretty sure the building is near condemned and the cops don't want stupid teens causing a ruccus inside the place and possibly destroying something, it IS a historic landmark to many people after all
u cant go in that building!!! i went up there cause a friend of mine works for coca cola right acroos the street from the hospital, we rode over there just to look at it and the police was right there watching, but he told ud if we wanted to look then park in the back of the building, but the place is closely guarded for some strange reason???????
The building isn't guarded. The cop must have been there for another reason. I make deliveries to the businesses right behind the building and there's never anyone there.
Inserenity75, not completely sure but I would think that some sort of infection could have set in when the arm was broken, depending on the kind of break, like sepsis,
I live at the bottom of the hill in Bartonville, right behind the Hardees. Sometimes if I'm heading up to the top of the hill, for instance to the Kroger, I'll take Pfeiffer instead of taking Garfield, just so I can go by the Bowen building (the building they're touring in the video).
I Live right near here, by boyfriend drove me passed the building one night and just the presence of the place is insane...but be careful going here because the police watch this place like a hawk, thats why we only drove passed it and didn't stop to check it out.
Look at the graffitti on 9:25 to the lower right side. I think it says:
"..Jason & Phil...PUSSIED OUT"...Towards the end of this video I heard that the stairs have been blessed because some of the crazy ghosts would leave with the visitors. Pibolar ghosts, Schizophrenic ghosts, Ghosts with schizo-affective personalities...Oh my! >:D
yeah lol idk if they show it in this vid, but its right in the dead center of town. theres no open fields or anything spooky to see. its interesting but its not worth driving long distances to. are you from around peoria? if so your close to it. im from dunlap so i can get to it in a half hour
Naw. Something else I gotta ask: I saw on your channel the vid of that sweet ass Mustang. Why, oh WHY, did you get rid of it? And for what could you have possibly traded that beauty in for?
yeah that was my baby for a while. bought it and had it for a while, had full exhaust, short throw shifter, intake etc low budget upgrades. i was at a stop light and i pulled out got t boned by a drunk driver. bent the frame and it was totaled.
Yeah, I wonder why the tour guide was so adamant about the tourists shutting their cell phones off in the basement. Have you had anything happen to yours while you were there?
Actually one thing me and my friend found funny. We walked out of this room together, We BOTH heard the word "Pardon me, someone PASSED us both,we both said excuse me. then we both look back and realized only 4 people including us where having the tour. the other 2 people where always ahead of us and the tour guide stayed ahead of us.
para normal? right! i dont believe in it at all. im willing to spend a night in this place alone if anyone is willing to bet me on it. if there was a such thing as ghosts people like oj would be screwed...any takers?
i agree i think people just scare and trick their self into beliving that. like when she was talking about the doll and the ball thats sounds sooo stupid and fake lol and i would go stay in there too but i live in texas sooo yyaaa =[
I used to live in South Peoria which is only about two miles away and have been thru it many times in the past but now its about gone and whats left is terribly dangerous not too mention if Bart or Peoria County catches you yer goin to JAIL
It was never implied that they were regularly housed. On every tour I have been on at that place it is stated for a short while out of the book.(and I have been on quite a few tours there) I already told you the hanging came from the community ( I actually contacted the people who gave the tours for this info). Once again, you could have gotten that from my other post that was below but it seems you have a little bit of trouble reading. Here's an idea, contact the people who give the tours.
There is enough interesting history about the Bartonville State Hospital to not have to make up stories about guys hanging themselves, etc.
It's well documented that the Bowen building was used for nurse and admin housing, the second floor was never used for "criminally insane" women. I'd love to tour this place as well, but not if this is the kind of cheap, haunted-house style narration I can expect.
A very detailed account of the criminally insane women being housed at the Bowen can be found in the book "Bittersweet Memories" pg. 126.(with Picture) It came from the alpha park library. It was sited from there. Also, pg 184 in the book "Asylum Light" also talks about these women.
As for the suicide in the attic it is only a told down story from residents in the local area both of the hanging and of seeing someone hanging in the building since its closure.

"Due to a shortage of space in the cottages women patients were housed there for a time"
"Picture, taken around 1902 shows some of the insane women who were temporarily housed in the Bowen Building in the early 1900's"
That's the basis for implying that "criminally insane" women were regularly housed in the Bowen building?
The stretched assertions made on the tour do not match up to the accounts from either Bittersweet Memories nor Asylum Light.
Please cite the hanging suicide reference.
