  • The main problem is that people are looking for literal answers, when many of the questions were merely plot devices, not Point A to Point B mysteries/questions.

  • I think all the questions that could reasonably be expected to be answered WERE answered, it's just that it wasn't the answer people wanted. Like who was with Jack's ex-wife? That answer was "it wasn't anyone known, wasn't important." Not a fulfilling answer, but an answer. Then "Why were the numbers so important?" the answer there is "They couldn't think of a good enough reason before the reveal." Which sadly is the same answer for a lot of it. They deny that, but I think that is obvious.

  • The people who were shooting at them during the time skips is answered in the complete series box set. (In a journal entry from one of them.)

Who's dropping the Dharma supplies dropping is answered in the epilogue. Watch it and stop whining. ಠ_ಠ

I'd say the other answers, but I've noticed other people already have.

Oh, and MiB's name is Barry. :D

  • They just dropped the numbers thing after it seeming so important at start...

  • @JcoolV And that is frustrating, but if you read between the lines with all the interviews, like the countless times Damon Lindelof said "You can't explain the force" and how Abrams always talks about the power of mystery.. AND that they threw this pilot together so quickly, they ended up crafting a mystery without an answer.. which is why people were so into the mystery. "What could it be? MAN! I have to know!" and they didn't know.. they had to come up with something. And couldnt.

  • I feel like the biggest unanswered question has to be the one that no one really asks... How the hell did detonating a hydrogen bomb blow the castaways forward in time, back to 2007? Everything else can be pieced together if you paid close enough attention to the show, but this one... just doesn't make sense.... Maybe that's just me?

  • @ArcisBlade It's been too long so I don't remember any theory on that, although I think it was always the back in the future esque deal where you change the future by altering the past.. but does it really matter HOW? I mean, what does it fulfill knowing the logistics? We want to know why that horse was in the jungle, and why there are skeletons with white and black stones.. but logistics of things like HOW time travel work within the show.. what does that serve?

  • There is an epilogue called " the new man in charge" in which it is revealed that there are dharma workers off the island that were never told about the massacre. They are the ones who drop the food.

  • Whoever made his video is an idiot. Every single one of these questions WAS answered!

  • @heyitsbreeify Yes, but in the video it was made clear this was just after the show ended.. The questions weren't answered until after, with the epilogue.

  • Relax lovely lady, I have all the answers you need. I have all the Blu-Rays, bring the wine and I will explain. :)

  • Die in a fire IGN

  • ALL ANSWERED!!

  • The MiB name is Berry!

  • I bet libbys husband david was dave from the mental instutition, hurley didnt have an imaginary friend..hurley could see dead people, daves soul was trapped on the island like michaels and tried to get hurley to kill himself probably cause he was jealous that hurley was with libby

  • @AsG1989 Unless it was the Monster trying to convince Hurley to jump off of the cliff, much like "Christian" led Jack off of a cliff in season 1's 'White Rabbit', before Locke managed to save him.

  • @Damon242 ahhh ofcourse because hurley was a candidate and could only die if he killed himself

  • @AsG1989 It's all a possibility, and was certainly a fun thing to pick up on whilst rewatching the series.

I agree with you btw the likelihood of Dave being Libby's deceased-husband, David.

  • You don't "become a smoke monster' The smoke monster is all of evil and darkness that's trapped and surrounds the Island. This was explained by Jacob to Richard when Richard first came to the island. The MIB seen his birth mother as a child. How can that be if she was dead? It was the smoke monster playing it's tricks to convince MIB to leave the island. We see Jacob accidentally kill MIB and lay his and their adopted mothers bodies to rest. Thus leaving MIB's body to use against Jacob.

  • I honestly think with the whole "why did Jacob's brother turn into the smoke monster thing" is not even true itself, the smoke monster (what ever the hell it was) turned into jacob's brother after he died. In that same episode jacob finds his brother's dead body stuck on a log in the creek, later putting him next to his dead mother at the caves (later found by Jack and friends). Also Jacob never really treated his supposed "brother" the same way he did before I think he actually died.

  • just look up new man in charge

  • the reason desmond didn't turn into a smoke monster was because the electro magnetism that desmond had been exposed to in the past and was able to survive such things. also the dvd of season 6 had an epilogue on the bonus features titled "the new man in charge"

  • I like to think that Walt was to be the new protector of the island after Hurley. If you watch the series epilogue, Hurley and Ben tell Walt they "have a job for him", and neither Walt or Michael are in the church in the finale (if memory serves me).

  • number two was time travelers from the black rock... it was in the complete series box set

  • 1: Jacob told them. The others didn't know.

    2: The others.

    3: Jacob.

4: An automated system that was never shut down.

5: His name was Esau symbolic of the brothers Jacob and Esau from the bible and he turned into the smoke monster because he was full of hatred that the light of the island rejected.

These are my answers. It doesn't matter because the fucking point of the show is that the past doesn't matter, it's about where you go and dieing together which is an apparent theme throughout.

  • his name is barry

  • And honestly, I feel like the biggest unanswered question is why Libby was originally in Santa Rosa Mental Institution.

  • @ArcisBlade Umm that was answered, Because she had a meltdown after her husband(David) died.

  • As far as who was shooting at our friends jumping through time in Season five, we have to assume that it was Illana and her people from Seasons five/six... no one else had access to the boats at first, and they needed them to get from one island to the other. It also leans towards them specifically because of the Ajira flight bottle.

As for who ordered the Purge, that can easily be contributed to Widmore... He never wanted anyone else to be alive on that island, which is seen with Alex.

  • @ArcisBlade It was timeflashing crew from the black rock, the writers were going to go into it but didnt have enough time.

  • @HorizontalShuffle They weren´t going to go into it, they just answered it because the fans were bitching about it.

  • @JaCkmArc0 Which one? If you mean the "Outrigger chase" They WERE going to show the other side of the coin in "Ab Aeterno" but time constraints meant it was shelved, but they confirmed that it WAS crew from the black rock, they even released a diary from the black rock crew, mentioning this and other things including seeing 2 men on the beach while they were docked off shore.

  • @HorizontalShuffle And I say it again. I don´t think they wanted to answer that question in the show. I know they answered the question in the diary but they did it just because the fans were bitching about it.

  • @JaCkmArc0 And I will also say it again, THEY WERE going to delve into itm but didnt have time, they stated in an interview before "The END" that they wont be showing the other side of the scene, but they wanted to but didnt have the time.

  • @HorizontalShuffle which interview was that?

  • @JaCkmArc0 I will try and find the link. hitfix.com /blogs/whats-alan- watching/posts/ exclusive-interview-lost- producers-damon-lindelof -and-carlton-cuse- talk-across-the-sea

  • If you watch the extras on the Season 1 DVD, they explain that Walt is a psychic, which, if you watched the series, was blatantly obvious as shown throughout. Basically, anyone who was indeed a candidate had some kind of extra something besides their extremely depressing life. However, Walt was never supposed to be a candidate, he was just a special kid who would eventually come to watch over the island after Jacob's replacements were "done."

  • Let's see:

    1. This is one of the only MAJOR questions that got no answer whatsoever.

    2. The DVD bonuses imply that it's the Black Rock crew, but since the beach camp and Ajira water bottle were there, I'm not sure how that's possible unless they were traveling through time too.

    3. Widmore.

    4. Explained in the Epilogue.

    5. He became a smoke monster because he had special powers like Walt did, or because he was at least partially evil. Either his name was Samuel or he had no name.

  • he is called smokey xD

  • oh, and IGN, shame on you for this vid! who did this? if you really had watched all the episodes, the extras on the DVD and some more extra-info-vids by the producers, you would have been able to answer your own question...

  • Charles Widmore ordered the Purge.

  • The one question that keeps bothering me is the first one. What was up with Walt, dammit? Even in the epilogue, when they had the chance to explain it, they didn't (the did answer the mystery of the supply drops though).

  • @Calick I'm more irritated by the lack of elaboration on Aaron, who seemed to be extremely special, but nothing came of him.

  • @Uxoriouswidow I'm curious as to where everyone keeps getting the information on Aaron being special.

Yes, in Claire's first flashback episode, 'Homecoming', the "psychic" appears to convince her that Aaron is special, and Aaron is of course a great deal of interest for the others.

However, season 2's '?' reveals that the psychic is a fraud (and the knowledge that Aaron's original adoptees were wealthy spring back into mind), and...

  • @Uxoriouswidow And season 3's 'Not In Portland' and 'One Of Us' reveals the pregnancy issues on the island and the interest in Claire's baby for being born, which was revealed in 'Maternity Leave' as being due to when the embryo was conceived (Claire's being off-island).

So, "Aaron being special" was debunked in the first half of the series, and should have ended there. Apparently it didn't though...

  • Who the fuck built that massive statue on the island!?

  • 4. The Dharma supply drops were being carried out by two guys on the mainland. These two men had no idea the Purge had happened. If you watched the extras on the last disc of season 6 you wold know.

  • @theLOSTexpert In addition to my last comment, for reference you can watch, uh, I think it's 'the new man in charge' on youtube.

  • @theLOSTexpert the extras were the laziest thing ever created, it should have been explained IN THE SHOW, not been like, wait for the dvd release!

  • The smoke monster was NOT the Man in Black. Jacob found his brother's body the same place Jack ended up after restoring the light. The smoke monster chose to take the form of Jacob's brother. Sometimes. (The bodies of the Man in black and the woman who raised Jacob and MIB were found in the caves season one.)

  • @theLOSTexpert It was the MIB, if nothing else should else should serve as proof, then the fact that Jacob cannot do anyhting that would kill MIB should tell us that it was still him.

  • the people that explain these ridiculous storylines remind me of conspiracy theorists, that seem intent on happily being brainwashed by others and swallow every bit of bullshit fed to them, they live in la la land.

  • 5. The light at the centre of the island is in each and every one of us and the light in MIB went out creating the smoke monster. Now there can only be one smoke monster on the island at one time, MIB's mother was one before him (see how she destroyed MIB's camp)

  • @MetalGearRyan this is exact what i was thinking while watching the IGN video :D

plus, the last question "what is his name", is certainly "he has no name", because his mother thought, she would only give birth to one child - she just had no name for the second :)

  • 1. Walt's ability was a gift from Jacob / The other's never had a plan for Walt, they just kidnapped him because they knew Michael would do anything to get him back. They had Michael bring Jack, Kate and Sawyer to them because Ben needed Jack to perform surgury on his spine. Kate and Sawyer were just so Jack would co-operate.

    2. Ajira flight 316 survivors

    3. Jacob

    4. Dharma folk of the island

  • Only #5 and #2 is unanswered, and quite frankly #5 shouldn't be answered, #2 is really not important and #5 is like why Master Chief shouldn't take off his mask kinda thing

  • @XwaSabwryBat MiB became smokey because he went straight into the dark side of the source. There was no man made cork down there at that time so he went straight into the evil.

  • @Rude666 that is one theory,we will never know

  • @XwaSabwryBat It is a likely theory, however. The producer's DVD commentary of 'Across the Sea' is what started the idea.

  • @XwaSabwryBat #1 is actually the only one that is both unanswered and needed to be answered.

  • @Damon242 u should see "New Men in charge" i think that is pretty much answer it

  • @XwaSabwryBat No, it doesn't. It answers what happens with Walt off the island, but it still doesn't explain why the others needed him.

This was always the show's most infamous dropped storyline - and mainly due to the issues surrounding the actor.

  • To answer question 2: The people chasing the Losties in the outrigger were actually crewmen from the Black Rock. They apparently attacked them through fear of the many mystical properties of the island. I found this info out in the mystery section of Lostpedia. It explains everything bar Walt's powers and the Ajira massacre in season 6. Jeezo I'm such a Lost nerd.

  • 1. Unanswered

    2. Unanswered (unimportant, has no bearing - at all)

    3. Answered (Widmore is shown to be leader during the Purge)

    4. Answered in the epilogue (unimportant, has no bearing. But still annoying)

    5. Answered (to a degree. The clues exist in 'Across the Sea' and 'The End', it's best to read a transcript for the 'Across the Sea' commentary to have them pointed out).

The only unanswered thing that had any real bearing of the plot was "why did the others need Walt?"

  • @Damon242 I think its quite clear if you put the pieces together, the significance of Walt and special people in general.

  • @Rude666 I think I understand what you're getting at, but it is true that the only unanswered thing of any significance is why the others needed walt. It's not a question of anything else other than why they needed him.

  • @Damon242 Well in one of the "missing pieces" mobisodes, one of them has Ben talking about Walt and that Jacob wanted him there because he was special. I believe special people have more of the "light" inside them than most people and they are more in tune with the island than everyone esle. Perhaps it is their true destiny to be on the island. Thats why Hurley says to Walt in the epilogue "The island is where you belong, its where you always belonged". MiB is also special and....

  • @Damon242 ....MiB is also special and I believe special people make ideal candidates to become protector of the island. Thats why mother favoured the MiB more than Jacob, but like always in lost theres always a choice(unless you're TT'ing) and thats why Jacob ended up protector. Hurley brings Walt back to the island for a job, because that was his ultimate purpose.

  • @Rude666 I will disagree. I have a conflicting theory regarding the light, mainly concerning the fact that 'mother' was giving her perspective on what she thought it was (a nice link to the origins of religion) and that the scientific explanation (provided by Widmore, Elloise, Daniel, and most of the Dharma Initiative) doesn't lend to the idea at all.

  • @Rude666 Now, even though 'The Incident' undoes that particular mobisode as it reveals that Ben never spoke to Jacob, and often used that as a cover for his own plans, I'll accept it as a partial answer.

  • @Damon242 It doesnt undo anything. Richard speaks to Jacob. Richard gets the lists. Richard is the one that tells Ben.

  • @Rude666 "all those slips of papers, all those lists. And I didn't question anything..."

True enough. Ben let go of Walt though, without Jacob's instruction. A consequence of the writers changing their minds three quarters of the way through the series everything about Jacob? Perhaps. It was always one of their more obvious and clunky narrative changes, revealing that Ben had never met Jacob. It always made it more obvious that during season 3 Richard wasn't written as being Jacob's right hand.

  • There were no unanswered questions. They did not "answer" anything that had an answer.

  • irk!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
