@laubeatz yes it hurts, and burns. got shot in the ear with a blank at kapooka, at night we were at stand too when the guy in my pit yells "1 ENEMY!" and turned and shot right next to my ear, its still partly deaf and i get ringing in it every day. but oh well tuff shit lol.
@MrBigshaggy I'm not really sure, i was just told by a relative that that was the statistic for a rifleman who is joining the army. I'm not really surewhich unit.
Im a 16 yr old Kiwi, been living in australia for around 7 months and i really wanna join the army specifcaly ADF because im in yr 12 this year so its my last year of school until TAFE etc. so im wanting to be in Reserves, but i was just wondering, would they be able to fast track citizenship??? cos a friend of or family is a border patrolman i think and he was in the nz navy and he moved here and he was in the aus navy and said they fast tracked his citizen ship, but this was back in 2005...
You know only 1 in 20 applicants are actually accepted to become a Rifleman in the Australian Defence Force. That just shows that our military only wants the best.
Yeh i just got accepted on the 5th on janurary. i saw 5 guys go in b4 and get turned away. They know who the want i guess and if they dont think your up for it there not wiling to give you the oppurtunity. What unit is this? Hoping to go to 6 or 1 or 2 rar.
lets get this straight. these guys are reservists, not fulltime serving members. They were not training to go to iraq.ive been to iraq and afghanistan and east timor so i know the training regimes that go along with those deployments. More to the fact these guys are choko grunts doing some training at DSU rockhampton, i know its at rocky because i just got back from shoalwater bay and spent a night there before going back to brisbane.
@nataleeBRAHH thats right bro australian's army is one of the best trained in the world and im proud soon be in it :D going kapooka december cant wait!

royal marines and british paras are above any infantry unit in the australian army thats just facts mate..there is no p company in the oz army or any selection course that will determine what regiment u go to...3 rar is certainly not on par with the the british paras.
the royal marines recruit course is a real killer..if ur into infantry/military type stuff there was a doco on the bbc called commando..do yourself a favour mate and download it..i think u should enjoy it, its pretty cool.
come on mate..u think 3 rar on on the same level as the british paras...the brit army is a much more battle hardend army..thats just facts..the brits have been in everything since the falklands
@MrBennyb you should reconsider that thought mate. we are every bit as battle hardened as the brits, we may have had a dry spell in war fighting for a few years at the end of the 20th century but we still trained hard for the fight and now its paying off particularly in Afghanistan. I was there last year in an AFV and i know we are more then capable and every bit as professional as any other 1st world army in fact we are better then most!! we just lack the numbers of some of the bigger nations.
@MetalMilitia565 i believe riflemen are a branch off the infantry so id imagine they would have some identical training as the other branches but then their specific training
you dont have to do duntrron to join rainf corps...only if u want to be an officer is when you go to duntroon...and this aint choocos trainin...they dont go through this much intensive trainin before deploying
Anyway with questions to do with YOU session testing, try some online tests, find the sample test on the ADF website and you should be fine, i was anyway =)
Finished my assesment day and got in for rifleman :D just got to complete fitness test and then enlist !!
hey fellas. i got my aptitude this wednesday. i want to be a rifleman. My maths is pretty shit but i did pass it in my school certificate. reckon ill be sweet?
is it? are you sure? when i was there i never once fought inside a building and i did a bit of fighting....... if they were going to iraq or afghanistan they would already be kitted out with their desert equipment and would be training in the garb they would be using over there! ive been on three deployments so far, i do have an idea how things work..... besides it looks like a typical reserve depot too.....
I've had the privilage of being in the Australian Army but if your looking for action the British Armys the way to go. Plus the British Armys not crippled by oh&s laws and is battle hardened.
Umm ive never had oh&s cripple the training ive done with the ADF, every exercise (including live fire) has never had an ounce of realism takin out of it because of these crippling laws as you put it!!! and im in a combat corp!!!! you say you were in the ADF? what corps were you in and unit/s did you serve with?
I was planning to do the same thing! becoming a rifleman eventually! do you choose to be a rifle man after basic at Kapooka or do you enlist as a rifleman, and after basic go straight to singo, because the website doesnt make that clear LOL!
u will join as infantry and then after 80 k-town go to singo for 3 months or what ever, they will teach u all the jobs in a section, then when you get to you battalion u will get to go into DFSW or other support shit.
does anyone know if when u join the infantry you get to sign up to be a rifleman or machinegunner or do the recruiters just you in what they think you do best plz someone tell me
If you are thinking of becoming an Machine Gunner you have to Complete the Machine gunner Course at the School of Infantry. The Recruiters are there to help you with the job you want to do. What is best for you is only yourself to decide.
I'm joining the army reserves possibly in a non-combat role, for example operator admin. If I choose a non-combat role, does anyone know if there will any further infantry and combat style training after training at kapooka?
Cheers if you know, if not let us know about your experiences in recruiting and any advice which you'd feel would be helpful for a recruit. Thanks
I have a question. If you're a qualified rifleman what do you do while you're at a base in Australia rather than on deployment overseas? Cause the job description makes out out that the job is only combat so what would you do while you're not on deployment in a warzone?

All wrong. Mates of mine made this - try Army reservists in Queensland. This is done in one of the sheds there on the "barracks"/depot. It is already on YouTube under a few different names. Sorry 2/4 soldier. If you were in, you probably would have been to this place before you went to the "Bay", or at least stayed there overnight. And the rooms inside are mostly demountables. As you can see, while the training might be good, it is done on a limited budget.

lol, they aint SAS if they were everyones faces would be blured out out covered, and they would tamper with there voices so they couldnt be recognised
Uh it's MOUT not CQB, and if it's been filmed at Holsworthy it's not 1RAR, as 1RAR is based at Lavarack Barracks. If it's been filmed at HSB, which I highly doubt as they use Shipping Containers for MOUT training, it would be featuring 3RAR in the Film.
i think this video was filmed way before september 11. There are hundred of copies on hundreds of sights. This aint special forces. This aint pre-iraq training. This is standard training
These guys aint training for Iraq. They're reservists doing an urban warfare exercise.

3RAR have deployed to East Timor (Not really combat), Iraq, Afghanistan and Solomon Islands (Non-combat).

There's no exact "training"
But you will still have to do drills, like Marching and all the grunt work from time to time.
The Army is awesome because whatever you earn you may as well add an extra 10 Grand on top of your salary. Why?
Because of the extra Marching and routines you do if you're in Admin. Haha the Army rules!

Don't you read my posts? lol it's not 1RAR @ Holsworthy... FFS, 1RAR are at Laverack... 3 & 4 RAR are the only reg inf units in syd.

i think this video was filmed way before september 11. There are hundred of copies on hundreds of sights. This aint special forces. This aint pre-iraq training. This is standard training

Special Forces?
Not bloody likely mate. Our Commando's use M4 systems. The F88 (Steyr AUG) is our standard infantry rifle!
Looks like it's just basic close quarters combat training for the newbies. They wouldn't be horsing around if they were 4RAR.
