The short body (early model) Mooney planes typically use 100mph on downwind, 90 on base, 80 on final, and about 75 over the fence. The later models use those same numbers but in knots. Some of the latest models may even be faster. Not sure. The manual gear comes up or down in 1/4 second. The early Mooneys are great to own as your first plane if you want cheap and super fast.
Forget cars, develop a good alternative fuel for General Aviation. :) That way I could not only afford my Mooney, I could even taxi it one day. Who knows, maybe even stay in the pattern. Or possibly, travel in it. Wishful thinking?
You have to think of it this way: A Mooney typically gets about 18-20 miles per gallon. How does that compare with your car? Now imagine you can get that while cruising at 165 mph with passengers and luggage, flying a course that is 20% shorter than a car on the Interstate. So, why isn't the government paying US to fly instead of drive?
On a day like that, flying is priceless! And it's only getting more and more expensive... if you really want to get your license, the less you wait, the cheaper it will be... and there's no expiration on your certificate... it's yours for ever!
Seriously, you nailed it. Well done sir.

Nice plane. Good music for video. Not obnoxous music like some of the other mooney videos I've seen.

You don't believe in aligning the plane with the runway centerline, do you?

I am 64 and I am just now getting my PPL. I haven't decided on a plane yet but the Mooney looks pretty sweet. Anyone flown the Acclaim type S?

Hey man good for you. Did the aviation bug bite you your whole life until you went for it?

YEP! Better late than never. I was in the USAF from 1965-1969 but never at a base with an air club!
