All of these nursing schools are all the same. Nursing is a very abusive profession!I left on my terms but I've seen them harass many people out. Leave while you can!
how competitive is it to get into the nursing program after pre-requisites? I've heard it's really hard to get in and I would be so upset if I won't be able to become a nurse. Can you try more than once to get in?
i know im probably extremly late, but good luck!,i was thinking on becoming an RN,but im supper scared i feel discouraged,i just dont want to get into a field and not like,it or hurt anyone, thats one o f my biggest fears!!!!!
@denrob1129 no I'm not in this program anymore..I decided to leave it and go for my BSN instead..I'm hoping to start another nursing program in the next few days..
@jis2cool hey I left the program because the teachers and all just weren't what I needed....I just started a new nursing program on thursday and its great..problem is I have been having really bad acid reflux for the last few days and its really painful..I was actually thinking about sitting out of school this semester..but I'm going to try to stick in there because I'm damn ready to gradute.lol..
it's going to be this August 30 fall semester... :)
i'm so excited and nervous! lol. i just feel really lucky just to be able to get accepted in the program...so i wish and pray that i'll make it through the whole program!
btw, u made this video 2 years ago, u probably already graduated by this time ryt??
congrats!! how was school for u? any tips or headsup? hehe
Hahah I take it your not in the nursing field because almost every point you made is wrong.

well all i can give for advice is believe in your self man..thats the best thing you can do for starters..I know that sounds really cheesy but its the truth and it all starts from there..and then just pray and hope for the best...and oh yeah..study hard..really really hard.lol..
good luck with ur studies, I failed 3rd semester OB and Pediatrics and will be dismissed from the program. I initially didn't like nursing, but it grew on me, so Im gonna try for another BSN program or a ADN program
thanks man..i'm not going to stop..and i wish you the best of luck when you get into school..if you ever want to talking about anything my door is always open.lol.
I was in a big community college nursing program in Michigan. I am male. My experience was a nightmare. I had to drop. My instructor was absolutely evil. She sexually assaulted me followed by informing me that I did not deserve to be in the program. A big investigation is in progress including criminal. They begged me to return. I informed the Dean that she was running a zoo and one of her animals bit me. I have a good job so I had the option of dropping. All I can say is GOOD LUCK!!!
It is the largest Community College nursing program in Michigan. Ask your nursing instructor. They will know. Since an investigation is in progress, I cannot give too much information.
I was very opinionated during school. Instructors do not like that. They prefer you sit their and be quite when they pontificate. I was a paramedic in Detroit EMS for years. Nursing school was easy for me. My problem was with instructors who were abusive and on a power trip. Power corrupts. You will see!!
yup!!!!!!!!!! its not the work that is hard.. infact most of the time its insulting.. its the low self esteem nursing instructors that make it like hell. No wonder theres a nursing shortage... these bitches are evil and those are who your going to work with
Good luck man! I took all the prerequisites for nursing while I was still in high school. All i have left is nursing classes, and I start next fall. Thanks for posting your videos. It's a lot of encouragement to all of us future nurses. Keep it up!
don't worry about how much money it costs, at least in california i started at about 42 dollars an hour, and nursing school will be a blast, because there is very little competition from men and there is quite a bit of competition for the women, which leads to a lot of fun and very interesting relationships.
well i did all my pre nursing classses and than i just took all of the entrance exams that i had to do(NLN and so forth) and then i applied for clinicals..a few of my classmates want to become CRNAs but just like you said first things first..i just want to finish this part of my career right now and then i will worry about advancing my career.lol..
So what were the entrance exams(NLN)mostly based on? And did you have your Associates before you applied for clinicals or already a Bachelors? Very true indeed, first things always first, and I'm just trying to get all the facts.
Hey don't be mad at me for being late on responding to this comment.lol..anyway no i don't have any form of a nursing degree yet and the nln is mostly based on SAT or highschool exit exam type questions..no nursing stuff just science, math, reading and crap like that.lol..
yo bro im going to nursing school soon, but do you know whats the average pay that nurses get with an associates degree?? i heard it was like $40 an hour just after school!?
It really depends on what state you are in. Either way, it's usually a very livable income.. just be sure your heart is in it... you are going to see some really messed up stuff, and quite possibly have people die in front of you. I am starting my clinicals this January... I wish you luck! =D
hey man im a nursing student too.. and currently im in my first.. so far i enjoy it, but doesn't it bother you if someone calls you gay for taking nursing.. because of all the stereotypes and stuff.. i know for sure it bothers the hell out of me..
hey man..nice to meet a fellow male Nursing student..well it really doesn't bother me when people assume that i'm gay just because I'm in nursing..they can assume all they want..at the end of the day no one is going to pay my bills or yours so i could give a flying fuck what they think.lol..
Good luck with nursing skool.....I jus recently graduated from RN school in May '08......it will be worth it in the end...stay focused & study...get a good NCLEX book if you don't already have one....they help with the critical thinking skills & rationales...be blessed
Hey lisa..well I can tell you girl that if your decided to go into this field of study be prepared to do a whole lot of reading....I have been reading for the better part of the whole day and i still have plenty to read..but i really enjoy this Nursing stuff and if you feel that is right for you.. by all means join me..
Hi, i am planning to be in nursing as well, just a curios question, does nursing requires math?? Reading 100 books with over 200 pages?..Well as i heard
Yeah Nursing school requires alot of math..even though you really won't be using it when you get into the field and have your degree ..you have to learn it for test in school..the math usually is pretty simple though..no crazy "trig" type stuff or anything.lol..and yeah..the reading is a mess..meaning its a lot..I just got through reading and i still have alot of things to go over..
my school lets students take pharm which is a second level class that goes along with med surg and pysch and my school lets students going into their 4th and last semester take this class called "nursing trends" in the summer..they don't provide classes with actual clinical sites and pratice during the summer..which sucks cause i didn't pass my med surg part a few weeks ago and now I have to finish pysch and pharm and set out of school for 8 months until i can apply for med surg again
Wow, that's an odd schedule of levels. I didn't know about the SU in
Shreveport. I hate our level system too cuz if u fail a course in a level, you'll have to remain in that level and only retake the course failed resulting in an enrollment of <12 hours jeopardizing the financial aid, especially tops. But hang in there man, just imagine the opportunities that will be available for us because we're like the "minorities of minority".
You're in the nursing program @ SU in Baton Rouge, if so do you know a girl named Keisha Williams? She's my cousin, she's in nursing school @ SU also, I'm also in nursing school, level 2, at ULM, southern was my 1st choice but I wanted to be closer to home. Sometimes I think i should have went to SU though it's only, just now, 3 black males, in the whole program, i'm not saying that's bad or anything but it does feel outta place sometimes....it's good to see more black males in this profession
hey man I go to southern university in shreveport..some of my folks are down in baton rouge too at SU but I just decided to stay close to home as well..there are not enough black males like us in Nursing..my class has like 5 black men maybe 6 in it..how is second level going for you. and I have a few friends that attend ULM..my friend krystal mosely goes there..she should be a senior or something now..
I have been a nurse 5 years. To be honest they put you through a lot of stress for school but it is all worth it in the end. Especially the pay, you just need two years in a hospital and then you can do agency nursing and earn 50.00 an hour. Keep up with it.
Hey good luck with nursing school. I'm a male nurse too, I just graduated so it is all very possible! It is a lot of hard work but the debt is really not that bad considering how much more it could cost.
Yup I'm from Canada. We have a 2-year registered nurse program here which is very fast paced. Also, the uniform policy for us was pretty strict, we had to make sure we had no wrinkles and we always had to wear all white (including our shoes) with white underwear and the crest on our left shoulder. Of course we also can't have nailpolish, perfume or nail extensions (not that us guys have to worry about that!)
hello..I just wanted to say good luck in nursing school! i just submitted an application for the spring. I am keeping my fingers crossed! hope to get in! but have fun!
Best of luck, we need more male nurses like us! I graduate this year and cannot wait. Your school is definately a lot more strict on the uniform policy than up here in Canada.
Good luck, i am also in nursing school, although i am a woman i think the nursing profession is indeed in great demand for a little muscle. Study, Study, study and you will achieve your goals. Go baby go
yeah i start in a wk from today 8/28/08 and im excited for you and use black men going into a predominately female program..... yo good luck and tell us about the next few classes peace
let me know how things go for you too alright man..people think that we have it hard in the nursing field because we are guys but in alot of ways we have it good..since there is a shortage in nurses and really really a shortage in men nurses alot of places pay us a nice amount of money for coming to work for them..I will let you know how these next few weeks go for me..
I hope you are in a nursing school that has "minority support". Meaning that programs are no different anywhere else just b/c it's nursing.
You can do this. It is attainable but Instructors are no different in their prejudices that they may hold. Be careful talk to other students in upper classes and get their views, they are indespensible in the assistance they give.
Best of luck with the program. I am a LPN in the bridge to RN program right now. It is very challenging, but with God all things are possible. I subbed so hit me back...stay in touch. Be blessed, MUch Luv!!!!!
I was wondering would i need to take the pre-req's on my own b4 applying for a nursing program or are the pre-req's part of the nursing program. For example: I get accepted to a nursing program and they schedule me as taking pre-req's for the first few semesters before taking actual nursing classes?
tell us about how nursing is and how u get ready for it. I am also a male. tell us about everything especially the studying and the amount of chapter needed to read everyday.
you know what..be looking out for a video like that soon..matter if fact i have one already up about nursing..go and look at my past videos..i made a video about a month and a half ago about Nursing..but I'm going to be updating everyone on my experiences

I just saw your video today (2-17-08), but I wanted to congratulate you and wish you the best of luck in nursing school. I am a junior in a BSN program. I know about the ridiculous amounts of work and the money thing, but in the end, it will all be worth it.
Yeah thats what I kept telling ymself to stay motivated.lol..but I know it will be worth it in the end..and thank you too for this comment..I'm glad I can talk someone who is going into the same field that I am:P
Thank ya girl...I got all my pre-regs and most of my other class on the whole rooster doon so yeah I'm happy about being in clincals but its no joke.lol..I have been studying my ass off and going through so much drama..i hope it all is worth it in the end though..i think it is:P ..thanks for writing me steph..i hope everything goes good with your schooling too:P

Sounds good I wish you the best of luck. I'm currently in a Respiratory theraphy program and my boyfriend is in a RN program. Just make sure that you stay on top of every-thing and you'll be fine. Again I wish you the best of luck.
Thank you....I always wan'ted to get into Nursing..because i feel like I have a personality that ones to help everyone and everthing..and Nursing is a great way to use that part of my personality..Keep on hanging in there..I'm sure you will be okay and become a great nurse yourself one day
I promise..no one in my whole area of Lousiana..knows about her..people are just now finding out..because at the end of Lyfe's Video..he has like a rest in peace thing..I'm so late..I'm just now feeling sad..when other people have been feeling sad for months..:(

facts: there is no shortage of nurses
media makes it sound as if there is a lack of students wanting to enter the field. (1)The fact is there is waiting list at any nursing school.
(2)Hospitals rather keep hiring newbies
then retain experienced nurses to keep pay low.
(3)Nursing has a high turn over rate
and has been so for decades. So there is a constant need to keep cranking out nursing students.

Hey good luck with nursing school. I'm a male nurse too, I just graduated so it is all very possible! It is a lot of hard work but the debt is really not that bad considering how much more it could cost.
iggy3200 3 years ago
yeah man its alot of work but hopefully it will be worth it..I see that you are from canada
BeeTeeV 3 years ago
Yup I'm from Canada. We have a 2-year registered nurse program here which is very fast paced. Also, the uniform policy for us was pretty strict, we had to make sure we had no wrinkles and we always had to wear all white (including our shoes) with white underwear and the crest on our left shoulder. Of course we also can't have nailpolish, perfume or nail extensions (not that us guys have to worry about that!)
iggy3200 3 years ago
What university do you attend?

Southern university

hello..I just wanted to say good luck in nursing school! i just submitted an application for the spring. I am keeping my fingers crossed! hope to get in! but have fun!
csj505 3 years ago
Best of luck, we need more male nurses like us! I graduate this year and cannot wait. Your school is definately a lot more strict on the uniform policy than up here in Canada.
DemolishedHalo 3 years ago
thank you..and best of luck to you to man..I kinda figured that canada was more laid back(easy going) in the uniform policy....

let me know how things go for you too alright man..people think that we have it hard in the nursing field because we are guys but in alot of ways we have it good..since there is a shortage in nurses and really really a shortage in men nurses alot of places pay us a nice amount of money for coming to work for them..I will let you know how these next few weeks go for me..

I was wondering would i need to take the pre-req's on my own b4 applying for a nursing program or are the pre-req's part of the nursing program. For example: I get accepted to a nursing program and they schedule me as taking pre-req's for the first few semesters before taking actual nursing classes?
