  • When we wake up to the truth of life, inspired music like this will emerge and flourish again, and all the uninspired crap that people call "music" these days will fade away and be forgotten. Search "Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then open The Present and read what it says to learn the truth of life.

"original Randy & the Rainbows bass singer Ken Arcipowski passed away Wednesday (March 23, 2011). Ken formed the group as Jr. & the Counts in Queens, New York in 1962 with Randy and his brother, Frank and Sal and Mike Zero. Produced by the Tokens for Rust Records (a subsidiary of Laurie), the newly-renamed group's "Denise" was a #10 hit and on the charts for 17 weeks the following year.

  • Rest in Peace Kenny. you will be missed.

  • Wow!!! What great memories!!! I forgot all about this song and it was from my teen years. Thanks for sharing!!!

  • When I was in college in the mid-60's this guy named Danny Melton, who WAS an Italian from the Bronx, and sang with a group called the Paradons who had the hit "Diamonds and Pearls" moved to Nebraska to go to school and we got to be friends. There were these great echo-y tile bathrooms in the student union, and he'd get a bunch of us musicians in there, teach us our parts, and we'd be singing doo-wop like champs. A dream come true!

  • @crossroads666 Great,Great story.Echo-y bathrooms,of course,perfect,who would have thought.

  • I am a Denise but with eyes so brown. Great song!

  • The last GREAT doo-wop song. Growing up in Nebraska, I wanted so bad to be an Italian kid from the Bronx, so I could sing in a group like this!

  • @crossroads666 WOW!That's amazing you should say that, really.I'm Italian but was from the Jersey Shore,Atlantic City, when this song came out.Got a lot of Italians from Philly and New York that came down during the Summer. We use to "improv" all the time, didn't matter where it was. Those were great days.Too bad those days are gone forever. But like I told the other person,if they build a time machine you're more than welcome to join me and my "GUMBA" friends and sing DOO-WOP.I'll know who you are:)

  • I wish my name were Denise.

  • my name is denisse! this song is dope now! lol

  • @44denisse44 what does "this song is dope now!" lol Mean?

  • @11xzxzxz It means "it's the ginchiest, man" or in non-slang, "it still sounds very good today"...

  • @shmuli9 OK thanks . and just glad it didn't mean DOPE (Data on Personal Equipment)

  • The first girl I ever loved was named Denise and I would sing this song to her in my dreams but never really talked to the girl.

  • @44denisse44 This song is great. I bought the 45 in 1963 I play it all the time on here!

  • @spook394 amaziiiiiing!:D my "baby moomer" teacher calls me Denisse scoobydoo. never knew why, untill one day we had to read silently in class (he would play music while we did this) & one day he downloaded n played this song infront of class:D its my ringtone now:)

  • I was all of two and in love with an older girl (of perhaps 3 or 4) across the street in our spanking new subdivision in 1963. Her name was Denise!

  • September, 1963--Oh what a time it was, & the music--simply beautiful, including this all-time sing along, classic. You didn't even need to be Italian--though it helped, for sure. Wolfsky9

  • My husband and i had just gotten back from our honeymoon this past July and this song was playing on the radio, i wasn't paying too much attention to it 'til he said to me "this is your song, baby." i looked at him with a confused look on my face and then i heard my name <3

  • I was 12 years old and SO in love . . I wanted to be Denise!

  • Comment removed

  • This was the "love" song for me and Mary Lou back in the summer of "63.

  • It doesn't get any better than this, and I was in 5th grade at the time.

Not only was it great music/lyrics but you don't have to remove your kids when listening to it. The kids stuck listening to the trash today would have loved this music if they'd grown up with it. Now, it's how far can they go.

    Bill

  • One of the last Doo Wop Song to make the Top 40

    This was and is wonderful

  • it be a very long time sent i heard that song. maybe a good 40 some year.

maybe more. it bring back memories.

  • we will never again have anything even remotely close to this good and that is so sad.

  • Nice shirts! They must all shop at the same store.

  • The songs from doo-wop era were the best, 80s (my generation) second best!

  • @audgeyp Totally(no pun intended) agree, I was born in 66 and I love Doo-wop and 80s

  • I recall my girlfriend Denise from high school days....looking back, things could be so different if we stayed together...."i'm so lucky cuz I found a girl like you"....as hot as she was...I love the song yet am glad to have excaped what she became.........STILL LOVE THE SONG THOUGH

  • I was born in "64, but remember as I was growing up my sisters playing the 45 to this song with the yellow thingie that went in the middle of the 45 so it could be played on a phonograph. I have always loved music from that era. There were actually stories being told in these songs and they all had that particular "sound" that does not exist anymore sadly. The songs back then were quite innocent as compared to some of the hate music of today, which explains why kids today are the way the are.

  • @CruiserLeo2007 You are so right. I got out of the Army in Jan. '64. I love these old songs too. have a good day!!!

  • when was this actually preformed?

  • great... it's better than Blondie, but you can see how well they remoulded it into a new wave song

  • Probably the last do-wop song,after all it was 63,but i still loved it,I was 10

  • A CLASSIC from 1963...

  • great song- captures the essence of love and fun.

  • When I was a kid I used to think that this was my Dad singing to my mom because my Dad's name is Randy and my Mom's is Denise :)

  • Great song! I recorded it onto an old cassette tape back in 1989, and at THAT time it was considered an oldie. I liked the tune but the real reason was because of a Denise that happen to come across my personell path. We never exchanged anything more then clances! I wish it could have been more! HERE WE ARE, years later, both with families; yet still exchanging the glances!

  • @pigmanobvious well stay true to your wife. LOL

  • Great song!

  • What's so cool about so many of these old songs is the repressed sexuality in them.

It gives them an edge that few modern songs have.

  • this isnt asian ass porn.

  • I love this song! My mother named me after this song! Yes, my name is Denise. :O) Thanks for posting it, it's a great song! Great women are named Denise haha! (Maybe because I'm a Taurus too LOL) Happy day to everyone! :O)

  • I'm named denise too *¬*

  • @ProAlternative01 Coolness!

  • @browneyedgal1970 Hey-that's "GREAT".I remember when this song came out.Wouldn't trade those days for anything.Your mom is pretty "cool".Well, too bad you couldn't experience those days, but at least you have the name and YOUTUBE to "kinda" know what it was like.Maybe one day they'll build a "time machine" and you can go back with your name, you'll fit in perfectly,"YOU WON"T WANT TO COME BACK":)

  • @FRANK1FM I totally agree.....doubt I would wanna leave that era! My mother had a blast during that time!

  • @browneyedgal1970 my name's Denise too :) yeah, great women are named Denise xD

  • @deni291192 Denise you are right! Today would have been my mom's bday...she loved this song and inspired her to name me Denise......she passed a few years ago, so when I hear this song I think of her! But you are right...great women are named Denise!! :O)

  • @browneyedgal1970 I'm sure your mother was a great woman too =)

  • @deni291192 Awwww yes...she was a great woman!! :O)

  • @browneyedgal1970 Yeah my name is denise too :D

  • @TheTwistedgirl Awesome!!!! Great name!!!! :O)

  • @browneyedgal1970 What day is your birthday, Taurus one?

  • @spook394 May 5!! Cinco De Mayo! :D

  • @browneyedgal1970 ----yep I was named after this song too----I am Denise as well.....

  • @browneyedgal1970 have to say all the denise's i met or seen was sexy yes!

  • @bullitt68charger Cool!!!! That's nice to say!

  • @browneyedgal1970 wow! that you in the pic??? if so it really does hold true,.....hmmmm are ya a single woman??

  • @bullitt68charger LOL.....yes that is me in the pic.....divorced, but dating a man. Thanks for your sweet compliment though!!! :O)

  • bla

  • i wonder where this was filmed? werent they from Pittsburgh ? Could this have been filmed at Kennywood?

  • @leicafool Maspeth, Queens, NY

  • Orange - you are one sick dude! You need to get out in the country, take a walk, and breathe some clean fresh air!

  • Coney Island?

  • ineresting eh

  • Beautiful! Thank you for posting!

  • Some of the comments reveal the total breakdown of the education system. There are those who can't seem to use anything but profanity to express themselves - how sad!

  • blondie who ? this is a staple in american music ,,, none better

  • No shit !! I love Blondie but the original version kicks ass ! !

  • @tombor6 I was nowhere near as offended by your pathetic insult as my ears were by this utter rubbish.

  • Oh Denise I'm in love with you!

  • I'm trying to locate a musician named Jack DeLaurentis, whom I always thought was an original member of the Rainbows. Does anyone else have information on this?

  • Thi s is another lil known golden nugget

    Great music.

  • My name is Denise , My husband loves singing this to me when he has done something wrong.....!!! He always get s forgiven....This song melts my heart string. he knows that....!!!!!

  • Great, such memories!

  • My mother named me after this song! Now I am really dating myself LOL. So Yes, my name is Denise and this was the song that inspired my mother....R.I.P mom!

  • I cannot believe this is only 15 years earlier than the Blondie version in 1978, and that Blondie's version is 32 years from today...

  • Could be Sheepshead bay in NY, or possibly the old pavillion in Asbury Park. By the way I am here with Mike C. the young guitar player in this video.

  • Pls. tell Mr. `C' `hi' and thank him for the memories and thanks to you for your response.

But do you know what ? I think I answered my own question: look closely at this video because to the right there looks like a placard that bears the old `Palisades Amusement Park' logo.

    That's possibly it.

  • No problem....I couldn't read the damn sign! I'll tell Mike that's what it says. He could'nt remember exactly where it was. He only played with them a few times, in thier conception..........he played on the recording on Rust records on Danise only. He was'nt on the flip or any of the other recordings. Problem was, he was 14 and the rest of the guys were 18 and older, so he could'nt get the time to tour with them due to school.

  • Most of us who are now of senior status really don't care when we consider how we can think back to times like these.

it was fresh, safe and original like this classic (By the way, is this the pavilion at Coney Island?)

If you can only be young once, that was sure the youth to have!

    Thanks again.

  • Hehe right now i Love my name or NOT ,, XD <33

  • so nice to see nice music like this and no young kids in here arguing

  • Right....no kids aloud....lol....if the discover this it would be great.....the rest is trash

  • Look at the clothes, black and white, the stage, etc., this is real rock and roll!

    great song

  • I used to sing this all the time in the 60's and beyond. One of my favourites. My name is Randy. ;)

  • Denise was the name of my girl friend's sister and I would sing

Denise, Denise, Why's your sister a bitch!

  • the greatest mello recording. i was in luv with a denese when this song was first on the radio. oh boy what a combo! coldshot

  • I LOVE IT!!! LOL LOL!!!!

  • The band Blondie..with Debby Harry... covered this song in the early '80s. A nice remake too.

  • Why is it this song reminds me of Steve Reeves? Must be the time period. They say Elvis knew karate. Reeves could have bulldozed him so easily. He cleaned 275 in kneeling position. Try karate on THAT. The mid 50's to early 60's---what a rich time period for many reasons---the end of silver coins---and the end, in a sense, of women wearing skirts. Both profound. It's a fine song.

  • wow...lots of Denise'.... out there...my name is not Denise...but i love the song any way =P

  • my name is DENISE .....l luv this.....

  • I love this song hahahaah

  • THIS IS GANGSTER

  • My dad served in the Navy, and in 1965 was shot in shoulder and then waylaid 2 France for medical treatment. Dad heard this French love song and hence I got my name...which is listed on my birth certificate/driver's license as 'Denice Denise'. Lol, I was 32 years old when I heard this love song....thanks dad! I usually tell people that my mother, (R.I.P.) had a stuttering problem and that my dad is an alcoholic...lol

  • hahahah im denise!
