  • I remember when I was young and stupid, and I thought guys like Mike knew a whole lot, and were very deep and knowledgable, and if they told us something, it was from a wealthy of knowleged. But this guy isnt so smart. He is just wacked out wrong on this goofy sales tax>.

  • goofy? he wants to abolish the IRS and the Federal Income tax.

if you choose you cannot pay taxes. Even if your not a citizen you pay taxes. Its easy just buy something to pay taxes. By design the rich pay more because they have more to spend and the poor keep more because they get their money back for necessities.

How in the hell is that goofy?

  • Personal - I know the theory. I know the myth. I know it sounds good. But you dont know crap about the effects it would have. What effect would a high sales tax have on nursing home patients? I bet you dont know. Do renters know they will have to pay 23% extra for their rent? I bet they dont. Can the military pay 200 billion a year in sales tax? I bet it cant. Will cancer patients be able to pay 23% tax on surgery and chemo? I bet they cant.

  • they get reimbursed with Health Insurance vouchers. You don't know crap. Because if you knew anything about gravel he wouldn't screw anyone.

  • Reimbursed health care VOUCHERS? Are you mental? Yes, I konw Gravel well enough to know he is a great guy. I admire him. I know he really has a good heart. But on this, his misses fundamental reality of the FT -- it wont work.

  • well all the stuff you mention is reibursed so how is that a policy failure? he's covered that ground.

  • Reimbursed for everything? Nonsense, unless MIke has a far different version than Fairtax org, and Boortz book. But regarldless, you cant send VOUCHERS for all that - thats like giving exemptions. If you exempt health care from the taxable spending, your 23% isnt near enough. The math wont work, unless health care is in there.

  • You are reinbursed for those expendetures. The revenue would be enormous since tourists and Illegal standing residents would have to pay it also.

  • Personal, you dont know what you are talking about. If you reimburse all these tax payments -- may as well not charge them. It would be stupid to charge the taxes, then send everyone a voucher for it. Yes, tourist and illegals wouldnt get the vouchers. But their spending would be about 1 /100000 of what you need. Their tax rate would have to 600000 %. I sorta think you wouldnt get a lot of tourist.

  • the rich would naturally pay more evening it out.

  • No - those hit hardest would be the young, the sick, the old. Those in nursing homes, those fighting cancer to stay alive, those who dont have houses, cars, assets.

Dont worry , this plan is absurd. Even Washington isnt dumb enough to walk into this trap and take the blame.

  • @MarkDouglasC Please put your ignorance about HR25 on display for all by telling us how The FairTax would hit those you list the hardest.

  • Don't forget Mike's alternate debate tonight (since CNN decided to exclude him, just like NBC). ustream(dot)tv/Gravel2008. TONIGHT @ 4:30 PM PST.

  • Wake up America and quit trusting what you hear in the media about the FairTax and read it for yourself! You'll see for yourself that Sen. Gravel is exactly RIGHT! There's an internet movement going on here that will make history and it's time for Americans to back Sen. Gravel instead falling for who the mainstream media wants in office!

  • Does anyone know when his book, Citizen Power, will be released? I think he talks more in depth about the Fair Tax in it.

  • Gravel NOT invited to the LGBT debate hosted by LOGO cable network.

  • The *ONLY* candidate who has HUEVOS and Integrity and vision. Ron Paul does not strike me as strong or the kind of man I'd like to have lead the U.S. - Mike Garvel is the *only* candidate I've seen in my entire 52 years on Earth who I feel wholeheartedly will be the best for the U.S. and for the entire planet.

  • Agreed 100%

  • Vote Mike Gravel for 2008

Don't fall for rhetoric... research Mike Gravel. Stop electing these rich people that don't care about us...

    TAKE INITIATIVE! SPREAD THE WORD!

  • Gravel is great but hes lost on Japan....Japan has an economic crisis FAR SURPASSING the US or CHINA or anyone for that matter. Its all smoke and mirrors over here....

  • I wouldn't call it a crisis....But they're in more debt than us for sure.

  • Mike Gravel & Ron Paul 08

  • Excellent arguments and beautiful punch at the end!

    Gravel 2008!

  • Fairtax org

50 Reps and 4 Sen in 5 months supports it.

    H.R. 25

    S. 2525

  • Just wondering (I have a poor understanding of economics as I haven't taken a class on it yet), wouldn't this cause more people to hoard their money, and eventually cause a recession?

  • Mike Gravel explained the FairTax pretty well in this video. He can get kind of passionate, but that is a good thing. I hope he will get more people from the democrat party to take a look at this plan. Go to Fairtaxdotorg to learn more

  • I politician I can learn something from! This is great!

    Gravel 2008

  • He makes a strong argument for the sales tax. As an economic progressive, I've never supported it, but I'm going to do some more research as a result of considering his points.

  • I'm tired of the idiots out there. If you continue to buy into one political party or the other, then you're retarded. Gravel is a good candidate and so is Ron Paul(R). Party doesn't matter. The most powerful Dems and Reps are all corporate sponsered whores. I really wish people would wake up and learn not to buy into douche bags like Obama, Edwards, Romney, Guliani, McCain, etc. We're not rooting for a sports team here.

  • Fair Tax's for all on Equal Playing Field would be Grand! I'm starting to think he is a Reborn Founding Father! Keep up the Great work Mike.

  • It's just a shame he didn't mention that the INCOME tax is a tarrif to the bankers who lend money to congress instead of congress printing it's own money. A fair tax still will not work unless you rid the Federal Reserves, and stop borrowing money and back our money with minerals or energy! But I fully agree with everything else he has to say. Very truthful man! The Income tax is against the constitution PERIOD! Free Irwin Schiff!!!Youtube him. If Gravel keeps this up his got my vote. Peace!!

  • GRAVEL FOR PRESIDENT!!!

  • he's the best/

  • I'm becoming more and more interested in this. He's the only guy I would trust out of the current crop of candidates.

  • The best choice by far in my opinion, he's got expierence , he is intelegent, and he's got a set of balls to stand up to the overwhelming corruption in our government, and to top it off, he's of average income , so he knows first hand what the problems are.

  • Unfortunately Hillary will eat his liver with some guava beans and a nice chianti, slurp slurp slurp.

  • Screw Hillary! Gravel has no money and Hillary has millions. It's not a very level playin' field when Hillary is slurping the corporate cock!

  • Property taxes which are run by the states are just as screwed up as the national sales tax. As far as the tax on food, here in Illinois I think we only charge 1% on food items and 6.25% on everything else. One thing to note, when we buy imported items we are essentially paying taxes of foreign countries. At least with a national sales tax, we would pay our own taxes first, giving us a level playing field.

  • Its a dying shame to see the other candidates so shameless and harping the same tune of war waging and killing innocents across the globe for their masters the corporate criminal war mongers. My hats off to senator Gravel for standing up and unmasking these other criminal politicians. Lennon sang a few decades ago. "Lets give Peace a chance"

  • I'm in favor of the FairTax, but Gravel, I don't believe, is the one to deliver it..!

  • who is? I've only seen 2 honest candidates so far. Ron Paul and Mike Gravel. They have my primary votes as of this moment. Kucinich seems ok too. The rest are slimy turd-mongers!

  • Gravel isn't the one to deliver it because he has no finesse. Once he gets in front of a camera, he kind of loses it. Just like Bush couldn't deliver the great idea of Social Security personal accounts because he's a poor communicator. A controversial economic issue has to be handled by a good public speaker, because Americans are ignorant of economics.

  • You worry about how he appears in front of a camera. I worry about who he is and what he will do as president. To you, it's a popularity contest. I feel sorry for you. Obama, Hillary, McCain, Guiliani, Edwards, Romney, they're all the same. If you can't understand that, then you are just a brainwashed American. "He has no finesse." Lol! Whatever Mr. Brain Wash. It's not about left vs right. The sooner you understand that, the better off you will be.

  • Oh, my God! You've got to be kidding if you think that popularity means nothing in politics -- you can't get anything accomplished if you don't have some sort of popularity. Isn't Bush proving that right now? You'd rather recite stupid dogma than think about how to get something done! Obama is certainly not the same as McCain...haha. That's dogma -- calling all of them "the same." Just like Nader tells you to! ;)

  • Bush is proving that he can stay in Iraq regardless of popularity. I'd love for Gravel or Ron Paul to be more popular, but they're not because they aren't corporate sponsered and being plastered on the cover of Time and Newseek. Also, when did I ever say popularity means nothing? Money means popularity and yes, McCain isn't that much different that Obama or Hillary. Sorry for you that you think political party means something. They're all corporate whores.

  • Agreed. Mike Gravel and Ron Paul are the only candidates worth considering.

  • LOOKS LIKE THAT IS TRUE, ELI!

  • You don't know what you are talking about. Just so you know. "Bush couldn't deliver the great idea of Social Security personal accounts because he's a poor communicator." You're retarded. You think Bush decides anything? You can't be communicated with.

  • "has to be handled by a good public speaker" Americans are ignorant now? You need a good liar to sound convincing? Do you understand economics? Personal accounts was a privitation corporate handout ass clown! It failed because Bush isn't a good speaker? Lol! Don't even respond dude. You're an idiot.

  • sad but true, a real reason why public education needs to priviatized quickly.

  • yeah so only the rich can learn?

Get your fucking Ron Paul bull shit out of here.

  • no because it sucks, wastes money, and teaches very little. I would be willing to a pure vocher program, but these public schools have to die. They suck at their job. Privatization cures all ills.

  • Yeah like health care...

Give me a fucking break Ron Paul is a nut job.

  • Our healthcare is actually good. You can see your doctors quickly, our prescription drugs work really well, and if you get health insurance they'll cover you well. Now if people don't have healthcare why should I be forced to pay for them.

  • Idiocy like this will never get your precious Ron Paul elected.

Health Care and Education are basic human rights that should be provided for free to everybody.

If you honestly think that American health care is "good" then you must be another rich Republican ass hole.

  • look understand the concept of rights. You have rights to action. The right of freedom of speech, and basically the right to do what you want, as long as doesn't infrige on another persons right. However you don't have rights to services you don't pay for.

  • The difference between the Ron bots and the rest of us is that we believe that health is not a "service" but a right that everybody should have.

It seems to me that Ron Paul has harmed the idea of change more than he has helped it.

Do you honestly think that someone that makes 7 dollars an hour can afford a major surgery if they needed one?

Get the hell out of here you will never succeed with your agenda here.

Unlike you Ron bot spammers Gravel supporters have a conscience.

  • okay I'm a Ron bot, because I don't agree with socialism and loose interpretation of the constitution. Look health care is a service, albeit one of the most important ones. You or your health insurance give doctors money for helping cure you of your various alliments.

  • Awesome video!!! FairTax all the way, finally another Democrat gets it
