Simply put (and sorry for overtalking here guys), but here we see Sandler and Tim Herlihy put much more faith in their storyline than simply their jokes.

The jokes and silly antics are just spiced in there for levity.

The real winner here is the acting, the singing, and the storyline.

It's like food - too much spice ruins the meat. And this is pure grade 100% meat...

I think this movie also deverts from the usual Sandler framework - this is a FILM, not just some cheap jokes summer comedy.

It's funny, but stays true to the framework which they built on - real talent, a great down to earth storyline, and just enough moxy to keep it intersting.

The ending is perfect, dead on. Who ever thought Buscemi could sing like that.

This is one of those few Sandler comedies, perhaps his only one EVER, that believes in its storyline more than simply its jokes...

why? INTEGRITY. No cheesy storyline, good acting for once from the likes of Barrymore & Sandler, no childish antics (although that's a Sandler trademark and there is just enough in this movie)....
