  • Start with the insolation rate- this would be about 960 watts per square meter. The lens was a 3x4 ratio and measured a total of 1.5 square meters. That's 1.44 kilowatts, and the plastic transmits about 85% (measured) of the energy. So overall at the focus, you will have over 1.2 kilowatts concentrated in an area (roughly) of 1 square centimeter. In one minute this would be over 73.4 kilojoules, ignoring reflective and thermal losses. This is a delivered power density of 12 megawatts/M^2.
