OMG! This really brings back the memories! Just seeing THAT keyboard brings it all back. I could just about memorize every key stroke to get any of those commands. What about those games? I reckon I had just about everyone going. Horace where are you? Hours spent on this computer hooked up to a little B&W portable TV. When no ne was on the main TV then it would be a real treat to see it in colour!

In 85 or 86 my father buy me ZX Spectrum that was build from scratch by his giniuse friend he was making them and selling for 150$ wich was big huge money at thet time in Ukraine. i was like 7 or 8.. good memorys :) Load Runner was one of my favorite games,.. and many more ofcorse.

I had a Spectrum myself. And guess what: I managed to develope a new ROM for it with all bugs removed and I included a few new features such as ON ERROR GO TO (typed as MOVE TO - by altering the output routine these two keywords were displayed as shown). But just as the work was done, Sinclair went bankrupt. I adapted the ROM-program to work on a SAM Coupé, using the floppy drive for storing and loading (you could only load from tape by entering an empty name). Less than 10 copies were sold.

They never had to hold their breath to make their games load either mate. I don't regret being a ZX Spectrum boy for a moment. The magic of those rubber keys...making magical programs...plotting pixels and drawing lines. I dug out mine and have it set up and play with renewed enthusiasm but my young son just laughs for some reason.

great stuff. Spectrum's were an extraordinary success both in numbers sold and affect on a generation. By putting so much power into such an affordable item, this, along with C64, meant a generation of kids grew up knowing how to program. Well done to you Uncle Clive!

Certainly faster than an Atari 800 by the looks of it... 70's and early 80's machines have a certain charm... The ZX does look faster than any other machine at its time, but since I wasn't alive then, I wouldn't know. Maybe the one machine at its time with more power would be the C64...
