Hey man just lettin you know not to put the red antifreeze in the trans am. I made the mistake of putting it in my 92 silverado and it made the inside of the radiator look like mud. The red antifreeze is made for the newer cars like you said and doesnt work in the older ones. I had to completely drain the radiator but luckily I didnt have to buy a new one.

Coolant level sensors go bad on GM products its located on the radiator.it will say low coolant when its full, because they get sludge on them from that decool shitty garbage coolant.You should get a flush done.

Adam, take your car to get a coolant flush and tell them you want MOPAR coolant put in. It's a little more, but damn better!

@VlogginLife If you're buying hardware parts, yes. Coolant doesn't matter what brand name it is. :-P So long as you buy/request the RIGHT Mopar Coolant for your car. It's a higher quality than regular off-the-shelf coolants.

@VlogginLife Does your windshield fog over from the inside when you have the defrost on? Even a little? If it does, then it's your heater-core. That starts happening before you get the wet spot on the carpet.

That red coolant is dickered and is bad in general.You can't use that dexcool crap in regular cars that don't call for it as it will wreck seals and gaskets and you shouldn't use regular green coolant in the cars calling for the dexcool crap as it will damage that cars seals.But however they make a coolant that is safe for all cars to mix in and use I think it is yellow and it is not hard to find.It is stupid that they messed with the coolant systems to begin with the green crap was fine.

@delmontcrusier I think thats what I bought....the coolant that is made for all makes and it is clear but smells like coolaid and you can mix it with whatever coolant so the bottle says...it was cheaper then the Dexcool and regular green stuff.

Your low coolant light sensor is likely in the reservoir . You could be leaking out the manifold , water pump etc ( pin size hole ) . You don't have to loose much before the light comes on .

My Grandpa has a 2003 Chevy Silverado (GM Car) and it randomly displays low coolant all the time, when its full of coolant and the temperature is fine.

I drive a 2006 pontiac g6 gtp and i think my coolant has been slowly leaking I just replaced my ECT sensor and it helped me out

its called a ECTS sensor, ENGINE COOLANT TEMP SENSOR

thats not your problem, if it was then your temp gauge wouldnt work correctly.

As for the pink dexcool coolant its JUNK just do a flush in each car and put the green coolant in !, their are lots of dexcool lawsuits going on, just google dexcool lawsuits and read up.

@VlogginLife ECTS is the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor. If the actual coolant temperature and the computer's understanding of the coolant temperature are not the same, it's probably this sensor that's finished. It'll cause the engine to run like shit when it fails but I don't think it's the same issue as you're having. As long as you check the level in the morning and it's within the specs posted on the bottle under the hood, I wouldn't worry. Probably just a bad level sensor

Take your car to Canadian Tire, get them to pressure test the coolent system, maybe leaking somewhere. If you got a leak, heater hose, rad hose, the rad itself, you should be able to smell that sweet smell of antifreeze.

Dex-cool AKA Death cool is supposedly an extended life coolant. 5 years or 100,000 miles..  Whichever comes first... Beware that in certain instances, it can actually damage factory gaskets.... :O My '93 Sonoma pickup came with Dex-cool and was swapped out years ago for the green stuff. If you drain and flush the system and then refill it with the green stuff, you won't have any issues Just beware that it may void the warranty if you swap to the green stuff.

@VlogginLife I have no clue... Stupid engineers? You may be able to swap for the green stuff, check with the dealer and your warranty packet. Just don't don't mix the green and the red... It forms sludge. Every newer GM I've ever had, started out with Death-cool. Including my Sonoma. The factory gaskets don't like the pink crap for some reason....

My coolant kept dropping earlier this year. No signs of leaks and all my ho's (hoses ;)) were fine... Turned out it was the coolant pressure cap that needed to be changed. Been fine since.

just because coolant isn't mixed with oil doesn't mean its not a head gasket, that just means its not an internal gasket leak, can still leak out of head(s).

just look for coolant on the ground where u park b4 u do any of the test I talked below.

let me know the location (if any) and I will tell u what it most likely is.

do a pressure (leak down) test, find leak.

also do a sniff test (at cap) for carbon in coolant.

dex cool sucks balls! ruins gaskets/seals and gums everything up! the difference is it is supposed to last 100,000 miles where the green is only 30-40,000.

if u mix the 2 it turns to goo.

they also make a universal coolant that can be added to anything.

me I flush my cars 99% and use green 75%(buy pure and mix myself) strength prestone.

if the intake manifold gasket or the plenum is letting coolant get into the cylinders the contamination in the oil is hard to see on the dipstick.Look at the pcv valve and the inside of the oil fill cap.

GM recomends using distilled water with dexcool antifreeze otherwise it will become corrissive.

Adam, check the cap that you screw onto the expansion tank. It looks like the rubber seal has failed. That's why you have the white on top of the engine lid cover.
