  • Throwing out the old and replacing with new doesn't free anything. It just changes the constructs. 60's are over dumbshit!

  • @ORCAS4312 - God does not perform tricks like a trained pony, but he will reveal himself to those who actively seek him out in faith. If you've seen the burning bush (or any miracle) and dealt with the creator personally, then listening to someone who firmly doubts the existence of a higher power is exasperating. You state "This life is all we have". The truth is, this life is probably all YOU have...which is too bad. An atheist is a man who has no invisible means of support.

  • @ORCA4312 - There is a 'rational cause' for believing in a 'higher power'. The fact that you exist at all means that something greater than you is impelling your existence. The fact that you can change or grow old & die means that something 'less real' than you is causing you (and all matter) to decay. Eternity must exist or nothing else could. Oblivion must exist or nothing would ever cease to exist. We live in temporality which is a melding of both eternity & oblivion.

  • @ORCA4312 - Epiphany or insanity. Like 'relativity', it's relative to the point of the observer. I like the way you just blurt it out "there is no evidence for God". That's the comfort zone for the willfully ignorant. If you close your mind to either viewpoint (Existence of God vs. Non-Existence of God) then you are wrong! You have to be actively seeking out the truth of God's existence throughout your life or you abdicate responsibility not just for your own salvation, but for others as well.

  • What Sam says is correct, but only to a point. I had the same ideas that he does years ago. The problem lies with not carrying the logic out fully. If you don't, then you are left with 'half-truths' which are extremely destructive. Just because we can question mankind's interpretations of God (organized religion) doesn't mean that God doesn't exist. As Sam pointed out in another video, Religions start out as 'personal epiphanies'. So it follows that we must ALL find out about God personally.

  • @garthfromseattle Insanity is more likely than divine revelation, and deceit for gain is even more likely.

There is no evidence for god, so the question is: are we rational beings or not?

It a terrifying thought that we all die and cease to exist, but there is no rational cause for believing otherwise.

This life is all we have - make the best of it.

  • The Bible is an anvil that has worn out many hammers. We can't label all concepts, either religious or secular, as outdated simply because such ideas came from our forefathers who didn't have internet access. Certainly we must have an open mind and question our programming, but we cannot retreat into an 'I QUESTION EVERYTHING' nebula in order to do an end run around uncomfortable ideas. That's as bad as a religious freak retreating into a "GOD SAID SO!" nebula. There's no royal road to bliss.

  • There's no atheists in the foxhole. Just saying "Let's get past this religion thing" won't work because we are not responsible for all we see around us. We didn't create the universe. We can't control the environment or the evil deeds of others. Reality has great dangers and great rewards. It's an endless resolution between the sacred and the profane, madness and sanity, the beautiful and the grotesque. The question of 'Who created all this?' will always bring forth the same answer: 'God'.

  • Ignorance is bliss eh? Dispensing with all our childhood pre-programming suggests that our programming is entirely suspect, designed to format our will into a form desired by others whose minds were similarly pre-programmed and whose motives are suspect. I suggest questioning the validity or usefullness of our pre-programming first since such was created in response to external conditons which may have warranted specific patterns of thought at the time. Some software is still quite useful.

  • Nice peice of software but my computer wont write it to the hard drive because its protected against this kind of program. This protection is not my fault because it was written when I was a child. No matter how many times I try to download this program my computer just refuses to cooperate. Bloody windows.
