  • I drive a 98 forester and this does happen sometime in rough terrain because there is no rear LSD.

To solve this probleme you only need to pop the e-brake half way or apply the brake gradually as you give it some gas.

It will drive thru like if nothing happened.

  • Could'nt you just press the brake a bit and use the VDC to distribute the power to the other wheels???

  • yea something is wrong with his awd system i have a 2000 forester and im telling i park where others are afraid to park i have been in a situation where one wheel has grip and i get out with less effort that he is putting out, you may also need fresh tires. Go 5 speed subies

  • Still a good car; probably bigger holes in the terrain under the snow than I can see here, but this looks like the average "challenge" my old dual-range '83 awd subie wagon took without effort. Seriously... almost boring unless the snow was deeper. Maybe the driver was surprised by the terrain, or gunned it immediately. Just a little more careful about where your wheels are going to track, as well as possible. Many people with 4wd just "point straight and give it gas". Learn wheel travel...

  • you need lockers!

    ...or a better car

  • that problem sucks.

  • i drive on the snow all the time and cant remember any chance when flooring could help on the snow. This driver looks like a beginner on the snow. =)

  • Ultimate symetrical 4wd, my ass!

  • A decent driver could easily get out of this.

  • um... isn't this car fitted with a CENTRE LSD (if at all) - meaning that if the lsd can't work if one front and one back are off the ground... both axles are "requesting" 50% of the torque and on each one its going to the spinning wheel...

I have a 2005 Forester 2.5 XS MT and if one wheel is off the ground it works fine... if 2 are off (obviously on opposite axles) I use the handbrake or lighly on the foot brake - works every time...

  • jkZA123456789 knows how to operate a car! That is exactly what you should do.

  • The open Diffy Blues!

  • If this car had something like VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Ctrl) then movment is possible in above situation.

Otherwise an LSD with discs is needed.

Light breaking is an option but be aware that this technic can harm the center differential.

  • Because this happens doesnt mean that this car doesnt have LSD diff. There are a lot of different LSD diffs.

    Torsen LSD

    Helical LSD

    LSD with discs (like cusco)

Most common LSD diff is Torsen. Thus when zero traction in 1 wheel, equals with zero movment on the other. Having 2 wheels with zero traction (1 front + 1 rear) equals no movment at all.

  • I'm sorry but I have to disagree entirelly.. Torsen's are among hte most expensive to manufacture and in my experience are one of the LEAST common. They also tend to work the best. Please Look up how a torsen diff works as you are wrong.

The most common diff's I've ever seen in 4wd's, awd's and even 2wd's are clutch pack Limited slips, followed closely by Viscous limited slips. THey are cheaper to manufacture, but are easily worn and need special additives in the gear oil to function

  • There is snow on the center part of the rear axle which lifted the tires off the ground.

  • You are not right . There were no too much snow.

One rear wheel and one front were on the ground. The cause is that there is no LSD

We emulated this problem easily on two vehicles. And resolved it only by two persons pushing the vehicle.

  • белорусы поламали японскую машину

  • wow..Scooby`s omg!

  • on AIR!!

  • this is the cheapest modell without LSD diffs. when you have LSD´s you will ever stuck in this terrain (we drive 06 forester with LSD)

  • All wheel drive are not created equal...! a forester-subaru do example!a symetrical awd! nice...

  • If you have a situation like this just lightly apply the brakes to bring the slipping wheels down and transfer some power over to the others.

  • Does not work trust me.. I had a forester without a LSD a car without a LSD will just send power to the wheel with the least resistance as you see in this video.. doing gas and brakes is not going to do anything because you still have the same issue with one wheel off the ground.

  • read again... I didnt say to apply breaks to a non LSD car.

Read what jkZA12345678 reply. Thats what I said.

His car has a Viscous Center LSD, a Torsen rear LSD, and I think a Torsen front also. When 2 wheels are on the air or with zero traction you need to apply breaks to move, and that is what the VCD of the newer models does.

What happend to that car was not Center LSD related. Its how front and rear LSDs work.

  • How is it that you got this and a red Forester stuck in seemingly THE SAME location, both with two wheels in the air? Do you put the cars there to ridicule the manufacturer?

  • VDC is Subaru's Traction Control System... the newer models have it standard otherwise judging from the year it was probably only availible on the most expensive model if at all, but still a great car... new one also has a bit more ground clearence as well

  • it still had t c i was either an o3 04 05 there just triing to ridicule subaru - they stuck it on purpose

  • its a 2003 04 or 05 it still has traction control there just trying

to make fun of subaru - I live in canada where we get 4ft of snow some times and i've never seen a subaru get stuck

that guy probably had his brake on to

  • That's an old cheap Subaru. If they didn't get a Subaru with VDC, they shouldn't have been doing any offroad.

  • VDC + TCS gets you braking differentials. The degree of braking lock ( lock if set to match wheel speed between two wheels on the same axle or LSD, if wheel speed varies by certain percentage between two wheels on the same axle ) depends on conditions and preprogramed parameters.

  • DIFF LOCKERS

  • I though subarus had an advanced system where when one tired started to slip power was given to the other....? almost like lockers. This just looks like a 4wd with open diffs.

  • If you find yourself in this situation use a light brake and throttle, the brake will actually stop the tractionless wheels spinning so much, i know it doest have torsen diffs and people will say that is shite, but try it...

  • you're supposed to rock it, not keeping the wheels spinning stupid

  • jaaa... don't make me cry man¡ LOL the north american cars... are the perfect car... yeah but for the trash... look the quality ratings, and after post against

    the japanese cars

  • ??? subaru best awd system???

jeep can continu to progress wit just 1 wheel with quadra drive

  • Forster is not a 4X4 man.....try a Jeep compass and compare it to the forester, you will see the difference.

  • jeep compass? LOL XDD please is a fucking tank ... look in youtube... all is full of videos with foresters climb hills, and crossover the mud.

  • If it is a tank...its the most useless tank ever...haha

  • learn to read... I sayd... the JEEP COMPASS Is Fucking Tank¡ realy do you believe who the jeep compass can crossover the mud and snow like a forester?? so much weight, poor agility, like the ford explorer is so easy to rollover.

  • this guys need a driving class... is not deep snow, they don't know use this subaru... the driver, not the car.

  • i gonna try it on mine MT forester

  • It could be great to see what other cars can do in same situation. I think most of "SUV" will look helpless when two wheels got in the air. Only 100% blockage of the wheels on same axle will help.

  • thats why we have MERCEDES or HUMMERS

  • Both those cars are crap. These guys can't even drive properly. What retards. and mercedes and hummers are crap

  • say 5 things that are bad with each car then...

  • 1: Both are bloody expensive (at least where I am from)

2: They are both gas guzzlers

3: You probably drive at least one of them

4: Hummers are American made (say no more)

5: They are both driven by people who have no sense about what decent cars are. And anyway, as if anyone would take a merc or hummer off road. They would either breakdown, or get stuck on a gutter because they are useless off road

  • think before you write... the g wagon uses a little bit more than 1 liter per 10 km...

you said that they was expensive... one reason, your poor

  • No. Actually I'm not. I just don't waste my money on crappy cars like Mercedes or Hummers. And you are a moron so I really don't care what you say.

  • so what do you drive??

  • depends on what hummer...the H2 YES is a hunk of metal with 4 wheel drive...and really isn't the greatest for certain aplications...for this maybe...on a rally corse? hell no. And the original hummer? Yes is by far one of the best scouting machienes Known, and the mercedes G, very good cars...Subaru's are awesome....just not for this type of off-roading...I love subaru though.

  • I hate the forester... not the Impreza

  • The Forester is based on the Impreza, why do you not like the Forester? I had one, there pritty good....not for what thiese guys are doing in the vid but its a capable dry dessert rocky type hill climbing machiene...then its ok, I wouldnt trust it in deep water or what thiese guys are doing, Its just a rally car ment to take offroad potholes. I mean comeon.

  • Why don't you like the Forester?

  • your differential is screwed..

  • there is no LSD, so this behaviour is absolutely normal.

See another my video in same conditions on the 2001 Forester S with LSD. Behaviour is practically the same, stock LSD is scrap.

  • that sounds right, and good demonstration. I thought it didn't work or something. In America those are installed on most Subarus since 2000, well, other than base models. Forester had it in year 2000, without it, car is useless as demonstrated.

  • Yep, I see you are in Belarus. I am not sure which options those Subarus get, but state-side, these vehicles come loaded with everything you can imagine.

  • It's an american Subaru model (base X model). So it definetely does not have LSD.

  • Absolutely right. And as the same says - it's limited, so it's not blocked 100%, what you expect. It's not a Range Rover.

  • So, are there any advantages of Subaru model with LSD over the base models without it?

  • They are bit faster around the corners on the slippery surfaces - but honestly you really need to know what to look for to notice any difference.

  • I think all mechanical LSD ( not the Honda SH-AWD types) requires some degree of traction from the slipping wheel/tire before torque can be transferred.

  • It's the base model. Both diffs are open.

  • do you have video with VDC when two wheels in the air?

  • novaya eto kakaya, s VTD/VDC ?

    LSD - otstoi?

  • da, staraja model ne ochen edet, a novaja prosto priot
