Ellie had to lose her money and die so that Gaby can be part of the next season, 5 years of Gaby clothes shopping would end up with them going broke and not affording to live on Wisteria :P

And let's admit it, her sex appeal attracts at least one type of audience (FYI, straight guy posting, although I love the interesting plot :D)
