I'm learning how to play this song!! I can't wait to post a cover version on my page.. very deep and meaningful lyrics. I wish more 'artists' of today would create music like this.
im so pissed i was born in 94, the 90s was easily the best decade for music within the last century. alice in chains, live, stone temple pilots, pearl jam, soundgarden, rhcp, etc... amazing.
@i3oosted Most of these so called "musicians" today don't write any music. Record companies hire people to write music. American Idol is one of the worst things to happen to this country...."I can sing good, so that means I'm a musician. I want to be famous, so I can stop sucking penis to get ahead in life. Oh wait, I still have to blow people when I'm famous? Ok. Katy Perry is my hero."
Vic Chestnutt wrote the song before Lightning crashes called Supernatural. For some reason that ending part mades its way onto this video because I was wondering the same thing. I found out because I found a bootleg cd download of this performance.
A while back, when i was about 11 or so, (im 27 now) I got money for my birthday, and i wanted to buy some cds. I had enough for 4 of them. So a buddy of mine was at my house, and I told him that I wanted to buy some cd's. Among the four he recomended, was the 'Live' "Throwing Copper" ablum. I put it in my portable cd player, put my headphones on, and I'll never forget that time, because it was one of the first cd's i've ever owned. I still have the same copy to this day. Classic.
I love this sooo much, thanks for posting. I think this version is better than the studio performance. Without fail, every time I listen to this at 1.44- 3.10 the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, particularly at 2.50.
my generations music is nothing but for money and producer bull shit. i wish i grew up in this generation where music was truly ment something other then bitches, money, and hoes. im thankful for my parents influencing me to listen to actual music
Song was written by Vic Chestnut, huh? Then I assume that Live put the music to it. Turned out to be one of the top 100 greatest rocks songs of all time.
This is a very emotional song. It is about a mother giving birth, while down the hall, another woman's life tragically ends. I agree about the clapping, there should not be any. The vocals are great and the drummer is doing a great job.
@Dpenslinger hmmmm, do u only mean this one song? So as Ed says its no Live-Song. it was written by Vic Chestnutt. And if you listen to other stuff of Live there are many equalities to Shinedown of today. So were Live ahead of the times? Or is Shinedown a band that rocks like in good old times? Or Staind? Or Stone Sour? You cant say everything of this century is bullshit. There is so much good music out. But most underrated and not fitting the commercial ideas of record companies
@Kunatskimaru So you think I need to get a life, but you were the one who was trying to get thumbs up on a comment you didn't even invent? Yeah...
Oh, and by the way: I HATE Justin Bieber. How about you stop assuming that just because I complain about your complete lack of originality, I actually LIKE that John Doe of a musician?
U mad? Seriously, why would I want to try to get a thumbs up when I was only commenting on a video, which by the way, you prefer Justin Bieber over this band. 2nd, why would you even say that I'm an idiot? Obviously, my first comment wasn't aimed at you but at those people who disliked this video. So, are you one of those people who disliked this video? Nuff' said, Derp.
@Kunatskimaru Again, you don't know me. I didn't either like or dislike this video. You obviously do not listen. I do not listen to JB. Stop saying that I like him when you DON'T EVEN KNOW ME. And yes, I called you an idiot because you're an unoriginal hack who posts stupid comments on videos like this. Stop responding, because you're not worth my time.
So, does this give you the right to call someone an idiot for that matter? Who died and made you GOD? Back at you, good sir. YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW ME. Not even worth your time? Hah! Don't even bother to respond coz' you just lost the argument. You just got owned.
This song makes me so sad because my dad used to sing it to me when i was a baby and now i dont see him much now coz he split up with my mum :( im crying as i type *****tear*****
@mjmanning123 I don't think telling the video will make it stop... I agree, however. When I go to a show I want to watch the performers not be a part of the show.
Why does he say "This is the most beautiful song ever written by Vic Chestnutt" Just prior to singing this? HE is the one who wrote this song. Was he referring to the song he sang prior to this one?
I remember the first time I heard this in 96. I don't remember the show but it was being played during an accident sceen on a dark and dreay night. The lyrics really dig into your being.
My Grandmother died of cancer and My Mom Played this at her funeral :'( everytime i hear this song.. It makes me feel like she is watching over me wherever she may be. I love and Miss you Nana.

This is a "legendary" show - the first broadcast on MTV in April 1995...LIVE- "MTV Unplugged", Recorded Live At The "Brooklyn Academy of Music", NYC, US, Feb 2, 1995.
this song reminds me of my girlfriend giving birth to my little daughter.... she was in a noose two days before her birth.... shes magic and the love of my life..
@079benjamin you mean her cord was wrapped around here neck? she was very lucky. things like that make me appreciate life more and more. when my mom was pregnant for me she was told that i would be a miscarriage unless she sat or laid down for most of the time. she never told me that until i was 23.
kayer3 she can hear it bro! shes an angel now shes everywhere she might be sitting next to you as i type this. your a good man bro. were all brother and sisters love you man.
@killedbyseth MTV is just teen drama now. They should change the name to BSTV. Ya i miss unplugged to. Do you really want some of todays bands unplugged...idk. Loves were made and lost. I also miss VH1 and Music TeleVision not what its become.
I have seen this band so many times; in so many different venues---I would say my best Live show was one I that heard, but did not see. They were in the basement of a Frat house at a college in Virginia they opened for a Boston band called "tribe". My girlfriend and I lit some candles, left the window open in her dorm room and made love while the band played. Nice breeze, cool tunes, and hot sex---ah to be young again....
