  • Thus the legend has left us his music

  • r.i.p rory

  • Jimi Hendrix wanted Rory to join The Experience but Rory turned him down, liked doing his own stuff instead.

  • God bless you Rory.

  • Comment removed

  • Recorded on Rory's 28th. birthday, March 2, 1976. The electric portion of this show will peel the paint off your walls.

  • rory gallagher is one of if not the fraetes on the guitar and keep an eye out for his tribute band sinnerboy they are also amazing trust me!!!

  • I dunno about Zep or gallows pole but it's a real good version of the Leadbelly song ( i've got a tape of him doing it) If anything at all 'sounds like a Zep song', you can be sure that's where Zep got it from. Rory's a Top Bluesman...R.I.P.

  • Increible..............

  • this is the the way music should fucking be!

if you listen to any of Rory's songs you will know!!

  • You get those love their music and can't play it, and those who can play their music and don't love it. Rory was one of that rare breed who could play it and loved it.

  • His guitar sounds so good.

  • Sounds kind of like Zeppelin's "Gallows Pole", but man, what a great tune. Didn't know much about R. Gallagher, but I guess this is a good start.

  • Yep, this is a great intro to Rory, but his real magic was with his old Strat. Always spell binding, always real and never forced.

  • @ruffledme Ow haha I think his best stuff is the acoustic/ resonator guitar stuff. And mostly the stuff with is white tele. But his strat playing is awesome also

  • @bichomaldito I'm pretty sure this is a Leadbelly song, or at least he made it famous. Jimmy Page was heavily influenced by those early blues guys, so that figures.

  • @bichomaldito

They're both tunes written by Leadbelly (or at least, Gallows pole was heavily based on Leadbellys "gallis pole," although that could have been his arrangement of a traditional tune- can't remember exactly)

Guitar in DADGAD, should that interest you... I've seen dozens of versions of Rory doing this, from the sedate to the frantic. (This one would count as fairly sedate.)

Best albums would be "Tattoo," "Calling Card," or "Against the Grain" in my own humble opinion.

  • @bichomaldito Ofcourse it sounds like zep's gallows pole cause that is originally a leadbelly tune, just like this one. (as far leadbelly was original, cause those songs are probably even older folk songs.)

  • @lampens "Gallow's Pole" wasnt written by Page - it's not Zeppelin's song....

  • @wolfatnight

If you'd really read my comment you saw that I mentioned leadbelly and that it was probably not even originaly written by him either.

I mentioned it probably sounds similar to zep because they both got it from the leadbelly version. Never did I say anywhere that Page wrote it.

  • @bichomaldito

You mean Zeppelin sound like this seeing as it is a Leadbelly song and they ripped everyone off.

  • @bichomaldito I LOVE this song, only it's misrepresentative as an intro to Rory, whose fame is as an electric guitar ace. By now you've probably checked out the other related videos, but just in case...

  • nicely bluesy..........way ta pick it...

  • Powerful. Amazing performer. I was lucky to see him play live. I scraped up my old

'71 strat up to make it look more like his!

  • what? an original 71 or a reissiue?

  • It's an original 71... certainly now I wish i had not been so careless. Back in the day I just wanted to be like Rory. Who back then would ever imagine (or care) about the value of that guitar in 2010!

Still have it, wounded, but it plays great!

  • yea im now what you were back in the day.only got into rory about 9 months ago. i have a 20th anniversry squier strat witch ive had for a year or so witch it quite battered up. now its my favorite guitar i even prefer it to my gibson SG

  • lovely bit guitaring

  • Rory, you're the reason I started playin' the guitar.

You left us too early. I miss you.

  • keep on going rory, on the great western plane - we all miss this great fantistic stuff.

  • Aw ! for fucks sake , why did ya have to leave us Rory , Awsome!

  • I know. Rory was the man. The one guy who saw his talent, honed it, loved it, loved the people who loved it and just smiled his way through nearly 3 hours of live wonderment. We miss Rory, because he was better than everybody else.

  • Couldnt agree more with you Ruffle, Rory was and is one of the very few inspirational people left in my life, he always gets me through the bad and the good times, he never lets me down. A true Irish legend. We miss u Rory, but will never forget you.

  • Saw the man lancaster uni 76 ish. Red hot set, acoustic numbers were just as riveting. Fantastic live act, wonderful guitarist. I don't think Rory's albums ever managed to capture what made him so special. Hair on the back of your neck guitar solos followed by wonderfully entertaining obscure acoustic numbers. Unique guitarist and still unsurpassed in some respects. Missed greatly. Rory ,Rory tell us a story

  • Rory was God.

  • Amazing, think it is from the concert in 1976, at his 28th birthday. Wonderfull playing, direct from his heart, so present an real. RIP

  • I saw Rory a few times in the 70s...what a legend...a great loss..underrated and one of the all time greats.....check out as the crow flies Irish tour 74..it didnt get much better

  • The best ever!

  • Yes, Rory was the best ever. Rory was the best ever because he was talented, but he was also very real. There was no shit with Rory. No pretense. His audience was his judge - and his audience pronounced him the real deal.

  • Just blows me away everytime I hear him, wish I had treasured the times I saw him at the bridgehouse(Canning Town) & Finsbury park more!Thank you so much for posting this imagine going from this into say wildcat,Fantastic

  • Just discovered what you tube has to offer for an old fart like me, nice to see I am not the only one who still appreciates the works RoryGallagher .

  • one of my all time favourite rory songs

  • Thanks for this nostalgia. Met him once about this time - what a nice man, and what a loss!

  • That has made my day. Tks.
