I'm in LOVE with this Piece...! One of the first performances I remember hearing was some kid in the Van Cliburn Competition (1999 or 2000...?) from one of the big "Texas" Universities...
I'm still in awe...!!! Brahms might just be my favorite composer...?...!!!!
@toneeeeeee crazy fact: When Brahms was 19, a critique called him the "next Mozart." He go so agitated over that remark that he actually burned all of his works.
So although he wrote this when he was 20, he had written a lot of stuff before this, and so is not his true Op. 1, just his first non-burnt work.
Yes, indeed! I just try to study this Sonata C-Dur ... But I will never ever reach that great level of him! But it´s nice to play it in every case! Greetings from Hamburg!
@tyu3456 I´m collector of old LPs. Just take a look at maybe amazon.com there you can find some Peter Rösel recordings on CD for order. LPs of Peter Rösel (sometimes called Peter Rosel) you can find on auctions on ebay.
This is the Sonata part of which Franz Liszt played from sight when Brahms visited Liszt at the Altenburg in 1852 (and dozed off during Liszt's performance of his own Sonata in B minor).
@director289 Rather unfairly - as it was hot that day in Weimar and Brahms had been travelling all night to get to Weimar to meet Liszt. Liszt was not over-impressed by the fact that the nineteen year old Brahms nodded off while Liszt was performing his own Sonata. The two were able to resume amicable relations but never got to like each other's music very much.
A 1:22 c'est vraiment magnifique !

Zimerman's version and this one are the best I ever heard. What a great piece, like it more than the overplayed nr.3!

@PhilippeLoTheEternal oh my dear, for sure you can have a dinner with Mr Rösels Schubert recordings as soon as possible ;)
hey, btw, i found now that I got 7 more Rösel LPs , I forgot that he is performing also a lot of Beethoven :)
I will look what I can do.
Here on youtube I will only upload music that isn´t released on CD.
I know maybe 60% of Rösel LP records are now released on CD (just look at amazon) but hope for the 40% to work for us :-D

@WatchBlueSkies The GDR? Are you referring to Germany, or some recording company? And where can I get this recording - is it on tape or CD?
