Meh, sure homeworld and cataclysm's story was better and more dramatic, but I still like homeworld 2 because of the graphics but mostly because of how you can use more strategy, like now you have shipyards or you need to destroy an engine module so the enemy can't retreat.

Still though, I probably like cataclysm best because of the story, music, and the skirmish maps are so large and diverse.

Nothing I can say can do justice to this piece of music. Sometimes I just listen to the short bit at the beginning with the full drum-things, but before the voice, around 0:21 - 0:32. Taiidani are awesome like that. With Homeworld and its successors, Paul Ruskay joined the video game musical gods, among Uematsu, Kondo, Ohtani, etc. This is a man to be respected.

And if they ever manage to make HW3, someone else doing the music would just be criminal.

The thing this music brings to mind is trying to maneuver my fleet around so it wouldn't get smashed by the carrier or heavy cruiser I'd be facing. Furthermore the explosions and ion cannon fire are echoed in this music. Pretty intelligently constructed, which is the point of electronic music I guess.

This is a stunning track. Other tracks that immediately come to mind when I think of HW are Kadesh Theme (Swarmer), Turanic Raiders Theme, Kharak System Theme, The Great Wastelands Theme (Garden View) and the Tutorial Theme.

Well, they didn't add the Kushan (though they are basically hiigarans), and the Bentusi are now gone from the newer versions, but yeah, its better than nothing.

I never played the original homeworld until the past week. I got into the series through competitive cataclysm and homeworld 2 play. It's funny to think I had completed cataclysm and homeworld 2, having met the bentusi lots, the raiders and the taiidan(/vagyr) plentiful times and heard of the republican taiidan peoples, and yet I never had discovered the wonderful backgrounds to these races.

Im so glad to have played homeworld through now though. Very good times indeed.

The only reasons for them looking human in the 1st place is so that players would feel more sympathy towards their plight(would u really care if a 6-legged,chitin armored species's home world was under attack?),and ofc, the "language barrier" problem.

This has greatly improved the gaming experience;the decision of making them human will be story related and is something for the designers to decide,thus completely irrelevant to argue about...SO DON'T!!!

This is a game, the reason they all are human beings are the reason there are also human beings in Star Wars, they do this because they can't find something quickly that would fit with our culture and language other than humans, aliens speaking english and drinking coffee is just wrong.

yes...the graphics were amazing back in 1999 and still are today. I can play GoW on max setting with no problem but this game can can laggy in heavy battles. The best story i have experience in a videogame. I'm so bless I pick this up back then.

Well to make it even better, there is a MOD going on for HW2 that uses HW2 graphics (or even better, considering modern CPU speeds have gone up dramatically) to redo the -entire- original HW1 plot, plus every mission, including the 'lost' Turanic Moon one. No HW2 ships or anything.
