There was a song from the late 80's or early 90's with lyrics that Melanie Oxley sang, such as 'smell of sugar from the liquor night before' and ' the money jar is pressed against the last paperback, to stop it from falling on the floor'. Does anyone know the title of the song, and from what album?

thank you for posting this extraordinary singer and performance. Melanie is one of my favourite singers, and it is such a great and rare opportunity to see and hear this sublime vocalist - alas she seems to have largely retreated from the industry.
