I know this has been 5 years ago, but it is still sad for me. I grew up in Cape and my Grandparents lived in McClure IL.

During the early 60's to late 70's I went across this bridge countless times.

I remember how it would scare me and at the same time fascinate me as I watched out the car window while my Dad would drive across it.

I hate the look of the new bridge. It has no character.

because the bridge was old.

They had built a new one which would carry larger trucks more safely and add two lanes (one each way). There had been a campaign by the college historic preservation students and faculty to save it as a pedestrian/bicycle trail bridge but the Corps of Engineers wanted the old bridge gone).

I was on the bridge when it went into the vasser! Big fun for sure! Now the groundhog is my mailman. :-(

I was camping with my girlfriend at Trail of Tears on the Illinois side when the explosion went off. We didn't know about the demolition that day. We awoke from a deep sleep to the noise, thinking that a shotgun went off right next to us. Pretty scary at the time, but funny now.
