His books aren't about glamorization, they're about a naive and foolish kid, trying to survive. This is just some poolside banter. He's quite self-depricating and remorsefull about his choices. He's one of the few, that lived an EXTREMElLY WILD life, and survived. Yes, you can learn from his mistakes.
