Yes, George Chakiris is still alive and well. He occasionally acts but is a jewelry maker these days and makes some really terrific jewelry from what I'm told. imdb.com lists him as a live and I use them as the definitive source for death listings associated with the entertainment industry. Remember wikipedia is open source and any one can edit the information.

George is still alive. Out of the main characters in the film, only Natalie Wood died. She drowned in 1981. George and Rita Moreno won Oscars for their supporting roles.
