Regardless of what Instrument, Brand and Model you purchase, PLEASE purchase something OTHER than a China made junker. There is nothing that compares to the quality of an American or European gem.
Thank you WPIZ for posting this video. I have always wanted to see how a french horn is made--in particular, a Conn 8D--and after 30 years of interest I FINALLY get to see it!

I noticed many of the workers at this former King Plant in Eastlake are young workers, what happened to the old timers working here? I worked at this plant back in 1979-1982 before going to Vincent Bach in the musical instrument capital of the world, Elkhart Indiana.
Unfortunately Conn Selmer replaced the older workers here at Vincent Bach with replacement workers...

I have done all this except the bell bending. They make it look easy in a factory setting.

I've just bought a Conn-Selmer alto sax with which I'm delighted.
The build is very robust, finish is flawless, action crisp and positive.
Tone is well centred, not too bright, and versatile with different mouthpieces.
It cost me £230!
Oh yes, it was built in China.
My only point is they have got bloody good at this.
By the quality of my horn it should cost somewhere near to £1000, but it doesn't.
I just hope the guys and girls who build these and content with what they are paid.
