  • Fuck you hicks

  • Love it.

  • Horror......Horror,Horror,Horror,Horror!!!!!!

  • NO one should touch a Ray LaMontagne song. Especially to slaughter it. Just awful

  • I kno people dont like taylor for whatever ur business be...but his performance of this song was amazing

  • lol... i remember this tool. people kept voting for him as a joke. "soul patrol".. ahahaha.. what a friggin' dork.

  • I like him, I'm glad he won!

  • How did this man win? He signs like a drunk bar signer. Horrible

  • Comment removed

  • @anthropamorphite retarded people voting is how he won

  • nice try, taylor hicks, but don't mess with a great thing. Your voice wasn't made for anything by Ray. You can't compete with Ray's voice. Pick someone with a more generic, boring voice.

  • @GettinBoredAgain wow i guess you have heard rays song manny times before you heard this and like ray..but i have never heard him before and i have heard both now and i must say this one sounds much better to me..but i guess the guys that heard and liked the original first always gonna love that one more then other copys..but noway he sang this song better this song is much better overall for thoose that dont know about rays song i guess..atleast i think so

  • like the song you make with jimmy and stephan cobert (friday)

  • Hicks! I always loved yer version of "Trouble" and I thought it was "kewl" that you chose a song that wasn't in the mainstream. The register was perfect and your stage persona was subtle which suited it perfectly. I disagree with Simon however (Ha ha, even after all these years!) about the "styling". You look good in "leathah". Randy got it wrong too, the expression on your face during the perf complemented the song perfectly. Another "side" to the Hicks persona. How many "layers" do you have?

  • Taylor brought this song to the masses through Idol. I like his version and Ray's.

  • i like taylor but the win should have gone to daughtre

  • this dude looks like Gerald Butler

  • miss that anticipation to hear what Simon's going to say and the inevitable arguments, so much chemistry it was about to explode. Now it's good not explosive.

  • HAVE YOU EVER HEARD RANDY SING? NUF SAID. I THINK HE DID AN AWESOME JOB ON THAT SONG AND RANDY NEEDS TO PLAY HIS BASS AND CALL IT A DAY BECAUSE WHEN IT COMES TO JUDGING TALENT HIS MISSES BY A MILE.

  • Ugh...I cannot BELIEVE he won over Katherine.

  • @Whywouldhesparkle taylor>kat =)

  • @xxY2JLEDGENDKILLERxx If you want someone with zero range. And Kat has been MUCH more successful than Taylor. I haven't heard about him since he won, but I've heard about Kat.

  • @Whywouldhesparkle zero range? your wrong he is a great singer and i think kat is overrated

  • @Whywouldhesparkle

He's too busy performing benefits with Kellie Pickler for tornado victims in Alabama to worry about Kat.

  • @Whywouldhesparkle He's busy performing benefit concerts for tornado victims in Alabama to worry about what Kat is doing.

  • I had never heard him sing so thought I'd take a listen once out of curiosity, plus I'm a huge Ray Lamontagne fan so this seemed like a good choice as I really know the track. Wow, what are some of you people smoking? This guy...wow, not good. I'm sorry not trying to be rude but I was really expecting something much better and am floored how anyone could say his version is better than Ray's. Me no likey.

  • I am not going to diss Ray LaMontagne, because Taylor adores him, but Ray does not hit me in the heart. I know his background, so I know he is a shy person with some problems, so he doesn't generate excitement exactly .........for me. Taylor does that. I can enjoy both tho. Each has his own vibe.

  • @oldikins wtf r u smoking dude ray kicks his ass. ray has one of the purest voices out there

  • @Graham32200 Ouch! This video happens to be by Taylor Hicks, who had to squeeze Rays song into 1:26 min. on a TV show. And he picked Rays song, which alot of people had not heard about, and immediately sold alot of songs for Ray. I had never heard of Ray myself at the time. So, I happen to like Taylors version..........but that doesn't mean I don't like Rays. And Taylor did it as a tribute to him. Jeez!

  • @Graham32200 Yeah, ouch! Lol....I'm with ya. Ray is like no other, so uniquely gifted and natural. I have a man crush on RL.

  • @vulturized cosign

  • He did a good job overall, but when you put him next to Ray LaMontagne, you can see he difference between singing it and feeling it. Ray LaMontagne straight up feels it and is dripping with passion and soul. Keep patrolling for that soul, Taylor, but Ray's already found it.

  • This song makes me wanna cry and throw a pity party for myself....LOL...

    but I love it!

  • whatever happened to this old dude?

  • @OldSlyEyes He's still movin and groovin and doin his thing, he just isn't on the radio like the others are, that's all. Check out his albums, he has two major ones, his debut and The Distance which is his followup, both are excellent!

  • volume sucks turn the gain up higher when recording next time please

  • i love his voice not as good as ray but still it has his own flair

  • i love this song=]

  • Totally agree with littlemiss. Lovew your voice Taylor. You def. have soul.

  • No, no, no!!! This is Ray's song - he wrote it from his soul and sings it with feelings that nobody else can mimic. Taylor did okay but nowhere as good as Ray - I really didn't care for his finish at all.

  • Ray's is waaaaaaayyyy better! More rasp, more soul in his voice then Taylor. Taylor's version sounds a little forced...Ray's, not so much. Ray's is authentic and connected and believeable.

  • Better than Ray's version! Taylor NEEDS to cover this on his next album!

  • Randy said that the song didn't allow Taylor to show off but you know something, it's not always about vocal acrobatics. A lot of those singers on Idol wind up being copy cats of Whitney Houston or Nickelback, or what have you and Taylor to me was the one singer in all of Idol history that personified what a great singer should be.

  • @garydupuis And really even Nickelback is just a copy of Eddie Vedder's voice from Pearl Jam

  • @888greg888 Exactly! After Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots came out, all of a sudden there were all these clones, which of course included Chad Kroeger from Nickelback and Scott Stapp from Creed..

  • @garydupuis I've seen this song sang twice by Idol contestants and Randy was F'n clueless both times. If you do not sound like a cat with a rubber band around your nuts he has no option. Yo dog...you were pitchy!

  • nuthin on ray

  • Ray Lamontagne does it SOOOO much better.

  • @andetruman agreed!

  • @andetruman that is the reason it's called a cover, he Taylor added his own spice to it. I love both versions.

  • @andetruman Mr. LaMontagne didn't have to sing an abbreviated version for a "talent" show.

  • @Ali27R Abbreviated or not, Ray is still king. Come on, we all know that deep down.

  • @andetruman You know why I know that on the surface? Because RAY WROTE THE SONG! If anyone talks shit about Ray compared to these douche bags, you don't know your head from your ass... I got your back @andetruman

  • Thanks @glasseecube ! I was starting to lose faith in humanity. People, listen...whether a singer has 90 seconds or 4 minutes, a bad monitor feed or a recording studio-- some voices are just better than others. Look up Ray's live shows and TELL me that he's worse than Taylor. Ray's smokey, passionate tone is what makes this song. It's RAW soul. I don't care who sings it, I think Ray will ALWAYS do it better. Props to Taylor for trying though.

  • @andetruman I think he does pretty well considering he had 90 seconds, a bad ear monitor feed (1:28) & Cowell staring him down ready to pounce as soon as he finished. It would be interesting to see how Ray would perform under that pressure. Taylor was one of the few from idol that had knowledge of this kind of music & introduced the song and the artist to millions. I'm sure LaMontagne benefitted from that.

  • He should do this in his current concert tour.

  • Like this so much better than Ray LaMontagnes version. Great job. Taylor is still my favorite singer/entertainer after all these years.

  • Like it even more than LaMontagne's version. Leather looks good too. Current tour footage shows he's wearing black vest w/ subtle pinstripes.

  • My favorite Idol. Absolutely one of the most talented performer to take the Idol stage. Has not as yet received the fame he's entitled to, but he eventually will find a niche that he fits into & become the superstar he deserves to be.

  • oh snap

  • @fornaxpt I don't think so !!! He is not Ray but I like Taylor !! They are are both AWESOME !!!! But hey , hey hey I am from the south !! look he Won !!!!! Peace !!

  • @cecil206blk

I am not sayn he is bad or anything far from it obv, but just thing he shouldnt have picked Trouble, cuz for starters its hard to cover a song from ray and i think it doesnt sound gd, but thats my opinion

  • not bad but hes no Ray LaMontagne haha

but better than I could do, that's for sure haha

  • Still the best...

  • I LOVE YOU SO MUCH TAYLOR HICKS I LOVE U FOREVER

  • he has an amazing voice and he can sing, fuck that comercial bull shit, muzic is about the voice, the lyrics, the song not about selling it. That`s the job of some1 else

  • Is that wayne rooney on 3:32 ???

  • people should leave Ray LaMontagne to Ray LaMontagne, your just going to sound horrible because no one can compare. Epic Fail here, and that is nothing personal to Taylor Hicks, he should have picked a song that his voice fits.

  • he looks kinda like jay leno at 1:25

  • he should be hanged for ruining this song.

  • @sass3635

Great version, WTF r u talking about? He sounds great

  • That was a hell of a rendition!!!

  • he did it well..I prefer Rays version..

  • Oh my - he actually sang it better than the original singer (Ray Lamontagne) - in my humble opinion of course! - he should have been the BIGGEST Idol in history - but since Daughtry threw a hissy fit and wanted all the best songs - and since Hicks refused to compromise - he's not visible while Carrie Underwhelming pollutes our airwaves.....

  • @salimm Sorry bud but I have to COMPLETELY disagree. You can have a really good singer sing a really good song. But only Ray can put the realy power and emotion behind the words.

  • @OxfordShades

Ray's the original singer - normally if I hear the original version first I'd like it better but I just like Taylor's voice better I guess - but I will say this in Hicks favor - say what you like about American Idol, but I would NEVER have heard this great song if Taylor hadn't sung it - so there!

  • @salimm Hahahaha You have a good point there! :)

Either way both of them are good singers.

  • @OxfordShades

    Agreed! Both ARE awesome!

  • I wouldnt have even got on had I not heard the young guy sing in on idol a month ago so I have feel Clay was way better I have a opinion so get over it.

  • fuck simon

  • ..real talent (and better production) is on (Britain's) X-Factor....hope Simon brings it hear next year...IDOL is still fun to watch but its gotten tired...

  • American Idol will ruin your musical credibility. Taylor is one of the most soulful singers i have seen on the show...but now that he is an "American Idol" his street cred is shiiiiit...this song is great, and he does it well, but once you sell out to American Idol, you're a "pop" star..and we all know pop music blows.

  • Taylor and Alex both did a great job.

  • i liked alex's cover better because of the raspyness in his voice

  • puke! i cant believe this guy won.... and where is he now?!

  • alex sang better i think. he has that unique voice and should NOT have gone out

  • Stop doing to Taylor what they did to Clay. What a dork you are lol.

  • @MamaMia4545 just a opinion I guess I am a Dork for having a opinion,

  • Hardly anyone knew of this song until Taylor sang it and he helped RL get a boost because of it. However, all he got from Ray was meanness. TH has a better voice anyway.

  • i liked Alex Lambert's version better, too bad he's gone! Wrong choice America! :(

  • Comment removed

  • ray is awesome...he could kings of leon and still be awesome...

    taylor messed it up..

  • who really rembers any idol season except the one taylor was on. he was and is the pinacle of the now-boring show.

  • speak for yourself. this years idol is more appealing to me than last years. and i remember the first idol better than every other one.

  • Wow I like this version. I like his voice too-and he's in tune which is always a plus ;o)

  • woooooo! lol

  • yeah this is good but you can't beat Ray

  • I like that Simon takes a cheap shot even when he likes the performance.

  • he's very carasmatic

  • I like Taylor he is really cool!

  • pretty damn good!!! Connor Shaw does it a little more soulful..but he is a lot younger

  • RAY ALL DAY

  • Not a Taylor fan, but that wasn't bad! Ray L rocks though!

  • great cover.... but DEFINATELY not as good as the original.

  • not better than the original u cant be serious

  • good cover man

  • i have never heard this song before idol..

  • I had never heard this song before Taylor sang it on idol, and I dare say a lot of Idol viewers hadn't heard it either.

  • The commercial and movie spots with Ray's song are really helping him get known. Its about time people are realizing how great Ray Lamontagne is.

  • Yea "poor Taylor HIcks". Imagine making Forbes Top 10 Idol Earners list last year. Sniff... he must be crying all the way to the bank.

  • poor taylor hicks.

  • I heard the song in a commercial and researched it....Good Song.. Ray has a new Fan..already a taylor fan....

  • I agree. First time i heard Ray sing this song, I LOVED IT! Taylor sound good, but i give thumbs up to Ray.

  • i AGREE

  • one of my favs and like it better than the original!!

A pity there s no studioversion!!

  • @LambertsLabelle1 I agree I wish he would record his version.

  • damn thats pushin it sayin its better than the original, its good but not nearly AS good.

  • didnt taylor win? where he at?

  • @1simaddict1

He didn't sell out. He still plays small venues where he can do what he wants instead of having to be comercial.

  • I think Taylor did a wonderful job covering this song. I am glad he stayed true to the artist while adding his own flavor...SOUL PATROL!

  • Since I've never heard the Montagne original I don't have preconceived ideas about how it should sound. I liked Taylors rendition and found it quite moving. Each should be judged on their own merits - not compared to others.

  • :-)

  • still love you Taylor Hicks, You are my Favorite American Idol, and you so deserved to win!!

  • DAMN Taylor..I keep just coming back to this song over and over, even after all this time. SOOOOUUULLLL PATROL!!!!. Glad you won babe!

  • Jonas, I hear Daughtry all the time. Am happy for his success as he seems like a straight - shooter. It does not diminish Taylor's success. He was so overwhelmingly popular on AI that he basically ruined the show for all the years to come. lol. Post-AI, he has found his niche. Will it be the wide swath that Daughtry has? No. But for those of us that prefer Hicks, it's a much deeper appreciation.

  • Taylor rocks it! Keep on doing what you do dude! You have it going on! Screw the few who don't get it.... their loss!

Saw you in concert and you blew the roof off the joint! You had the audience eating out of your hand!

  • Awsome!!

  • It's called personal preference my friend and Taylor sings a lot of blues music so that gives him more emotion than anyone who basically sounds like a goat every time he sings the same type of song over and over again.

Duaghtery's second CD is a basic repeat of his first--same ole same ole.

  • Just wondering, is Daughtry more successful? I'm not bashing Taylor and saying he sucks, I'm saying I've never heard his songs played in places or on the radio, while I've heard Daughtry countless times. Not bashing Taylor!

  • Just because Chris is played on the radio more doesn't mean he's better. Most of the music they play on mainstream radio these days is nothing but trash anyways.

  • I didn't say he's better because his songs are clearly played more. Listen to what people say.

  • Also, it's a fact, not your opinion of trashy music on the radio. Fact as in who made more money and who has more fans. Get it?

  • @JonasDudez i call the radio the "Daughtry".

  • i love this song, and he did it justice

  • Taylor - just wonderful. Wondering, why do some of Daughtry's fans feel so compelled to still attack him after all this times. Gee, didn't he come in 4th. Daughtry was very good. No doubt about that. He had a legion of 15 to 35 year old male rocker dudes waiting in anticipation for his first recording. And they certainly weren't disappointed. So really, what's the beef?

  • I like them both but I do like Taylor's voice better.

  • v. nice. i like ray's better, of course ...

  • exactly, not even comparable!

  • Daughty is the same ol' same ol' he is no better than anyone else just the same as eveyone else who sing his line of music, and Yes,Taylor should have won anyone with a good ear for music would know that.

  • ummmmmmmm he did win. LOL

  • my favorite Taylor song of the season he won.

    Adam rules!!!1

  • Just shut up, everyone, Daughtry is a generic lameass.

  • Chris Daughtry should have won. But it's about time Taylor cut his album.

  • ohhxitsxcbear........................for the thousandth time, Taylor won over Daughtry because Daughtry was FOURTH. He wasn't in the TOP TWO. Other than that, he is just more versatile and talented.

  • he he he

  • This guy is still a good singer and a great entertainer. I am looking forward to seeing him again tonight. He became a celebrity press whipping boy because of early contract disputes. Almost happen to Kelly too but she pulled back in time. Idol has power and idolettes better mind. Dont't cross them if you want to be heard.

  • American Idol always has to change songs up to give them a pop appeal. It's just how Hollywood is, unfortunately. Doesn't he look a little like Jay Leno?

  • Taylor looks nothing like Jay Leno in person. He looks young and very , very handsome.

  • dont like it.

  • I love Taylor's version of this song. He is awesome!

  • they shouldn't have changed the time of this song. it sounds boring now

  • Still my favorite Idol yo.

  • One of my top three! Love Taylor's voice and style. He pumps energy and soul into Ray's Song.

  • Comment removed

  • I love this and his new CD

  • SOUL PATROL!!!!!!

  • wow, Simon actually gave someone a COMPLIMENT for a change!

  • He is only 29 ? Omg he looks 50.

  • Well, not in person! And having lost a little weight.......he is very handsome!

  • He has a new CD out called The Distance, its great.

  • I've heard YouTube versions of this song that were better. I swear this show is destroying music. Get his ass off the stage and bring on Ray!

  • Well Tell Those Guys To Get Off The Ass And Audition For Idol And Stop Bullshitting.

That's The Difference Between Taylor Hicks And All These Guys On Youtube Who Thinks They Can Sing.

  • Unfortunately, nobody would no who Ray is without this performance. This boosted Ray's career.
