sorry, but you've obviously missed the point of the FTL drives of various sci-fi series. they're there to get AROUND the universal speed limit, not ignore it.
personally, you don't seem to be the right person to discuss sci-fi, as you need to understand the sci before you can elaborate where the fi comes in.
also, you can't just dismiss something within sci-fi, simply because it has mystical elements, that's just stupid.
1. Star Trek is one of the best Sci-Fi's of all time
2. Examples of energy turning into matter(and vice-versa): You eating something, you putting gas in your car, the sun, photosynthesis, power plants, nuclear weapons, LHC, etc
ummmm....... The sun.... dude, your geek title has been revoked. Can't change matter into energy? lmfao. Do you have any idea how many things within star trek have inspired actual tech? Cell phones, Holograms, etc.
Don't talk about science if you know nothing of it. Annotate this shit.
aside from your comment about matter and energy (just wow.. btw) i'm going to pick a bone about the "faster than light travel" (FTL for short) part. Despite popular belief, most sci-fi i am aware of doesn't use true FTL drives. Star Wars = Hyperdrive. They literally punch a hole into "hyperspace" where matter moves faster in relation to normal space, but the atoms don't actually move any faster than in normal space. (in hindsight, tough point to illustrate.)
Star Trek= Space Folding (or warp). just look that one up. Battlestar = more extreme version of space folding. if i am incorrect in any of my info, please someone make me aware, but please back your info.
oh yeah. thought of an example for the hyperspace thing.
it's like jumping out of a boat in a moderate speed river, straight into another river thats going faster, then jumping out when you get where you're going. you haven't accelerated yourself using your own energy, you just are "riding a wave" if you will.
....is this making sense to anyone but me??? just thought i'd ask
Why that's a bad example is simple, the energy is like that of rivers...
the source of the energy of sun light being turned into potential energy...
Sun evaporates rain, pressure forces water vapors up, and then down allowing a turbine to turn, but only due to the sun. The plants thing is a bit more complex, but more obvious I'd think.
Sunlight allows the extraction of carbon out of CO2, and carbon is quite reactive... unless I'm mistaken : /
you're right, aunt may would never want him to do that. she probabaly had like five years of life left anyway. Thanks Joe q, you've brought shame to the name Joe, my name is also joe.
I don't know about you but I think because Peter never married Mary Jane the Symbiot invasion series that came out in the midd
90s does not happen because in the New Avengers comic when everyone that was turned into Venoms in New York, Peter after being cured says this all seems familiar, I don't think that the Symbiot invasion would be something easy to forget about.
"peter will have a voice in the back of his mind that something is wrong, and that voice is the voice of the fans" Greta phrase,i can´t stop wandring how long wil it take thm to fix this mess up.
Worried about looking like a soap opera?!? Aunt May is in a COMA(soap opera) UNMASKING(soap opera) BETRAYEL(soap opera) SHOOTING the WRONG PERSON(soap opera)...too late
To sum up: Harry Osborn is alive, Pete uses web shooters and still hangs out with his high school buddies, and most horrifyingly eats wheatcakes. Wheatcakes? For shame, Marvel. But with Harry back and Pete using his web shooters again this means more than the marriage was retconed, and nobody is sure how much was backlogged or what happened exactly, atop the fact that after Civil War nobody knows who Spider-Man is. How does that work? With Harry back would Norman be as insane on Thunderbolts?
While I agree with your point on the OMD story. I feel that the larger concern was left untouched by your video. That concern is not with Spider-Man himself but with the larger marvel universe. While I do submit there's no way you could of know about what was going on in "Brand New Day" due to when you posted the video, that's where my problem lies with this retcon.
In my opinion, Marvel has done something I have feared it would do in 2002. They are altering classic continuity to make it appeal to those who have been introduced to Spiderman through the movies. This attitude is ludicrous. After Batman Begins, Batman didn't suddenly start wearing black Kevlar. Trying to make the comics feel more like the movies is like deliberately tampering with a famous work of art to make it look like a cheap imitation.
Right on my friend, well said. "peter will have a voice in the back of his mind that something is wrong, and that voice is the voice of the fans". Beautiful.
I hope enough people cancel Spider-Man to make a difference. I didn't buy the final issue of OMD, and have no intention of buying any further issues of Amazing Spidey until this situation is fixed.
Shock and curiousity are powerful things. Quesada knows that, counts on that. Pissing off the fans is worth if it sales a million copies of the issue. Who knows- Brand new day can be a really temporary day- a snappy stunt. The Spidey start for 2008 is promising.
What more could they really do with peters marriage though? I dont like the way they ended it, but Spiderman really needed a boost anyways so I had no problem with the marriage ending.
you are definetly right about the writing out of MJ. sex sells, and if they make it a habbit of haveing aunt may call peter "Tiger" then im not reading anymore... you should talk about what marvel plans to do with the new personification of spiderman, and what the buzz is on the registered superhero "Jackpot"
I honestly don't understand why they feel they had to do this.If it was all about the whole secret identity thing, Didn't they feel like the intro of the scarlet spiders (Avengers: initiative) was enough to cast doubt, they had to ruin basically everything that happened in the past 2 years with this move? and what happened in this U with regards to civil war? how did that play out? it's such a bad move that is sure to cost them readers, Im prolly pulling it from my list for stringing me along
Bob Gale wrote in Marvel Spotlight re: One more day that says that the new series is an ALTERNATE history of what happened betweeen mj and peter as well as civil war.... Begging the question, does this only happen in the ASM universe or does the WHOLE Marvel U shift to this alternate TL to accommodate this?

It's nothing more then fandom over creativity while Joe sees himself as a hero to the readers judging from his interviews.
the ending of one more day is just awful...why bring back harry osborn (who died) and make things seem so simple? i wasnt thrilled by the idea and this time joe Q went too far.
Very interesting video. I hope to see more. In addition to the fact that I AGREE 100%, I felt your arguments were presented intelligently.

In the Ultimate books, for instance, Peter and MJ aren't married but are so joined at the hip it's getting annoying (especially because Peter's got a cool ex-girlfriend in the form of Kitty Pryde)
i liked her cause there was literally nothing she wouldn't do for pete. even though it was a novel in one book spidey was facing off against morluns brothers and sisters. spidey beat 2 and mj ran the sister over with a car and beat the holy hell out of her with a crowbar(the sis was in a weakened state)but still mj is so hardcore.
Well done; the responce to the previous episodes seemed excessive, (but somewhat angry fans are as they are) but I could have just fast forwarded the video.
Anyways, nice videos; I enjoyed the points in this one and I've found that both universes are enjoyable too. It seems that this One More Day fiasco is part of the comics crusade to make way too many events and thus make them less important in my opinion.
Ironic enough, Madame Web allowed Aunt May to talk to Peter in Sensational Spider-man, and she told him to move on. However, Joe Q and JMS decided to just ignore that.
Thanks for your comments on the One More Day screwup Dylan. However I thought I'd just correct you slightly on one point - according to a strong rumour it will not be Peter but MJ who will accept the deal with Joe Que- I mean Mephisto, who in return will retain her knowledge of the marriage and gain super powers as the heroine 'Jackpot'. Personally, I see both OMD and the effects it will have on Brand New Day to be VERY bad.
However, one silver lining is at the end of the tunnel - some years back Spidey managed to help the Norse God Loki, who promised him a 'favour'. This could mean that the retcon of the marriage might be cancelled if too many fans are against the changes. :)
You pretty much hit the nail on the head regarding the One More Day arc. It does appear as though Peter is going to go through with it. I even predict that Aunt May will still end up dying as well, so as to create even more suffering for Peter. After all, Mephisto is not one to be trusted.
good job yet again. and as for breaking up PP and MJ, that's just wrong in all senses of the word. and by the way, if batman is cooler than superman, and you rank superman above spiderman, that means you're saying batman is cooler than spiderman. i have to disagree, spiderman is way cooler. granted, batman is loaded with cool gizmos...but then again, so is inspector gadget (who, by the way, is totally not cooler than spiderman).
Saying what makes Batman so cool is his gizmos is like saying that what makes superman powerful is the fortress of solitude.
What makes Batman awesome is that he knows everything. I. Mean. Everything. I'm just saying, compare one of the better batman stories to one of the better Spidey stories. I'll be fair, here. But even at his best, Peter's a lovable yutz who tries his damnedest, and what makes him so lovable is that he's doomed to fail.
I wasn't saying that the only thing that makes Batman cool is his gizmos...I was trying to keep my comment short x_x. I will give Batman his dues...But Spiderman is still cooler just because he's only human. ^_^
sorry, but you've obviously missed the point of the FTL drives of various sci-fi series. they're there to get AROUND the universal speed limit, not ignore it.

As far as not being able to transfer matter in energy goes... have you never heard of nuclear power plants .... nuclear weapons.... or the sun?
As far as transferring energy into matter... just do some research into the activities of particle physicists.

@CaptChrisT that isn't a good example...
try fusion and fission... or try the effects of accelerating a mass near the speed of light
Also, the transporter tech is already being pursued, and doesn't require anything light "matter to energy"
