Although John refers to the evil inside of her as Satan when she was levitating, they also refer to it numerous times as a demon, once as "an incredibly-powerful demon". So, was she possessed by the Devil, Satan, himself, or just a powerful minion of his?

This certainly proves that John should not be a priest. A proper priest should care more about Marlena's soul than her life. It's certainly more important.
Maybe if John had worked harder in improving his dreadful Latin pronunciations, Marlena could have been saved. Not even God would have understood that 'Latin'.
I remember reading an interview where Drake said this storyline took years off his life it was so difficult to play...all due respect, now it seems almost...funny!
