Ironically I first heard this in 94 when I was in Japan. Got back to the states and it had it's run but I found the last cassette maxi single in the store, still got it to this day. Then some years later found the 12" in a resale shop for a buck, let my homie Dave borrow and ain't seen it since :.(
Out of everybody that used this sample, this is my favorite use of the "Everybody Loves the Sunshine" sample. Lyrics are on point and the scratches are ridiculous. Props to E-rule.
Mary J *My Life*, Trends of Culture *Valley of the Skinz*, Brand Nubian *Sunshine*, This track E Rule *Listen Up* and others have sampled the same track, ALL CLASSIC'S! 90'S Forever Baby! Please Fell Free to Check my Page out!
Does anybody remember this song being in the movie KIDS when the young boys was sitting on the couch getting high during a house party. This shit was straight 1994. You'll never hear passion like this and a delivery in a good flow of music like this again. Rah Digga's the last of the Hip Hop Purists in the new millineum now.
@phesterjr Damn, I didn't catch that. Gotta re-watch it now after all those years. This guy should've been a star brighter than most of the losers on the scene since. The flow is inhuman.
@noiz87 Hell yeah, check that movie out. Everytime I watch that movie I get chills cause I remember the mind frame I was in as a teenager when I see that movie. I admit, first time that I heard E-Rule I thought that it was Jeru Da Damaja rapping. I was even more shocked when I found out that this kat was from Oakland. Cause his flow sounds East Coast.
@phesterjr to be honest, I went to west kindergarden, switched to electronics, and when i came back i just took a shovel. Didn't care noticing flow traits geography wise, as long as it flows in tune and i'm synchronized. This fella's got one helluva sync ratio, and his downfall is just one of the reasons i started hating at that nation :)
That made me dig through the rest of the world and so on. But yeah I did learn to appreciate the East coast somewhere... "during the war.." :)
Sad good artists like Erule never blew up and yet we have all these corny rtists making these dumb ass songs and making millions of dollars off these so called hits they produce.... Songs by Erule need to be on the radio.. not the crap by Lil Wayne, Young Dro or whoever else..
I was born in 93, when my cousin first introduced me to Big L's music I've been hooked nasty on 90's rap. That's all I listen to, my friends say I'm like 30 years old because I don't listen to this y2k+ garbage ass music.
That's cuz u know what time it iz. It all starts with the youth. Your cousin put you on to good music from day one, that kind of influence can only rub off on you. Hell, maybe through you u can replace all da wackness out on the radio now if you ever decide to pick up a mic or start your own record company. From listening to this and other 90's Hip Hop artists you'll be able to identify real talent if start looking for artists. Who knows....
I first heard this joint on video music box but didnt know the name of the rapper or even the song. The beat was in Kids too. I couldnt find it for YEARS until someone posted it one day on youtube. ...

@Jeffrizel1986 When E came out, think about all the cats that were on top. Public Enemy, Biggie, Nas, 2pac, Wu-Tang, Scarface, Outkast, Bone Thugs. Just a plethora of rap talent in the mid 90s. Not to mention the competition from the within the Westcoast itself, in Cube, Snoop, Deathrow, Too Short, and the rest of them.
He was really overlooked as an alternative Westcoast rapper. Didnt even get the fame like Pharacyde, Black Sheep, or Souls of Mischief. I'd say he went the route like Camp Lo.
@guanaco04 Actually hun he did get quite a bit of fame, his songs played on the radio, his video played on televisions and also the interviews that he had, and he was was inseveral mags
i had this song on a tape in 94 and my stepmom lost it. i never knew the title or the artist till today only because of the sample and how much i love the original sample Everybody Loves the sunshine roy ayers

Yo, this bring back some good memories!!!!! I remember watching kids and this track came on and i was buggin out trying to find out who this was...lol.. wow!!
Music always changes, unfortunately, its all about making trendy jams not classics and I think for the most part the ears have changed for most younger hip hop listeners. Some of them do not know what a true classic sounds like. In the 90's....a lot of classics where made. Same thang with jazz...
incredible. I was in grade school when this came out, i can remember seeing this video on video music box and gettin the same feelin I get when i watch it now. straight floatin.
Totally overlooked jam as one can tell by number of "views." when this came out I ran out and got the 12" vinyl cause I knew it was classic. Still got it too.
nah, go year by year after 96 and the number of classics just gets fewer and fewer untill its at 0. but thats not to say classics are not made, just not for the radio

Damn, these are the artists that should be famous and in the mainstream.. not fools like Soulja Boy,Plies,Young Jeezy etc etc.. Man Erule.. where are you man??
heres another song i have on tape i saw the video once when it first came out and i never heard from this guy again. i remember the ablum was called manifest, but i always thought his name was eroe. i still have vintage songs o.g. songs on my tapes. i have dozens of tapes of old school stuff. man u guys just dont know. thanx a 15 year quest has been solved thanx to technology. u dont no how many hours ive spent wreckn my brian lookn for this.
Hes got a mean ass flow. The track is tight also, ode to the great Roy Ayers. Before Real Hip Hop, there was this thing called Real music, also. We need not revisit only good Hip Hop, but real music as well which is a catalyst for it all. Peace is already out.

Hes got a mean ass flow. The track is tight also, ode to the great Roy Ayers. Before Real Hip Hop, there was this thing called Real music, also. We need not revisit only good Hip Hop, but real music as well which is a catalyst for it all. Peace is already out.
