Cont. Of the 2 accusations Jesus responds to the 2nd one. Scott says "read the rest of John chapt 5 Jesus describes a lot of things that he does only God can do". Okay lets read how Jesus answers the Jews.

V19 : "Truly I say to you The Son cannot do a single thing on his own initiative, but only what he beholds the Father doing"

V20: "The Father shows him all the things He himself does"

V26 The Father has granted the Son to have life in himself".

This is the opposite to what is being read here

Cont. The Jews make two accusations 1. He broke the Sabbath. 2. He was making himself equal to God.

Did Jesus break the Sabbath Law ? As a perfect sinless man he could not have broken the law or his sacrifice would have been void. Jesus fulfilled the law. So in this the Jews were wrong.

On the second accusation "being equal with God"

Jesus called himself "Gods Son" . These enemy's of Jesus somehow work out this means he must be claiming equality with God.....

Jesus is equal to God according to John 5. Lets see: The Jews were after Jesus for curing a man on the Sabbath. Jesus says" My Father has kept working until now, and I keep working". On this account the Jews wanted to kill him all the more, because he not only broke the Sabbath, but by calling God his Father he makes himself equal with God"

Is this passage telling us that Jesus is equal to God ? According to Scott Richards he is!

Jesus "INHERITS" a name better than the angels. How can God "inherit" any name ?Why would Paul be comparing almighty God with angels?

I do not see any JW having any problem discussing this passage, especially as it so clearly supports their position as regards the nature of Jesus.

Honestly when was the last time any JW came to your door to discuss "blood" or "saluting the flag" ? Seriously.

He reads a passage from Hebrews chapter.1 which says "God APPOINTED Jesus heir of all things THROUGH whom He made the world". Then Jesus is the "IMAGE of His person" . He then sits down "at the right THE MAJESTY". Also "He (Jesus) becomes better than the angels"  And with this passage he is trying to show that Jesus is God!!

If you are the "image" of God you are not God

If God made things "through" you, then, you are not God

If you sit at the right hand of The Majesty. You can't be God
