@DVA9515 On the approach: They were certainly in a decelerating phase where the engines are at idle position until they reach their desired landing speed.
During the flare: Now as the Drag increases the aircraft tends to decelerate, the pilot or the Auto/Thrust(A/THR) most likely the A/THR, must have immediately compensated for the loss of Airspeed just before the pilots pull back to Idle thrust. And don't forget that in front of the engines you can notice a change in Fan speed much easier.
@DVA9515 he actually wasent spooling the engines....The Rolls Royce Engines make that typical sound when ever they spool up but they were spooling up because the pilot put it in reverse thrust
@DVA9515 The landing procedure at this aircraft is fully automatically , the pilot is only cancelling the auto pilot at 500 feet bevore reaching short finals and flies the A 330 with the sidestick and the engines spool up by themselves if they must.
I flew from ZRH to JFK in august 2009. it was pretty awesome and I enjoyed the flight with Swiss. Swiss delivers everything what a good airline needs.
