i had ubuntu on my ps3 and took it off to put on ydl 6.2 on. everything went smooth but i cannot get an internet connection. when i go to network settings it shows my network but won't connect. even if i unhook my wireless and hook directly to ps3 it shows wired connection but wont connect. any suggestions?

once i hit 720p it stays black and doensnt go into next menu i tryed buringing the cd many times and re formattign and installing all i see is black screen

was just a little irratated yesterday!! Anyways I finally installed it successfully today. Problem is when it reboots I'm not greeted..it goes to first boot settings like firewall settings etc. I was not prompted to enter a logon name just the password before reboot!! so after the settings screen i'm prompted to input logon then password..can't because all i put in was a password..I came to the conclusion this must be incompatiable. My system is a 80gb 3 years old. The x hardware issue ? anyone?

Mine would not install due to a x hardware issue like someone below in 480i and did not recognize ps3 partition Ya know the more they try and make it like a comput. Sony will be left to sell packages on the com. dealing with microsft programs!! because they just can't seem to keep up they can't even give us a upgrade to go on facebook!!! Thats why I wanted to try this wasted my time Good luck selling their next system, because they probally won't have 1 unless it's with 3d media streaming boxs!!

im still installing the shit from softpedia, after it downloads do i just copy n paste it to a dvd-r? or do i need sum kinda special program, or do i just burn it? also, my dvd-r disks are 1-16X speed is dat good enough to put the software in? (4.7 GB)

Although I ran into a problem; everything looks really noisy, especially in text mode. I've tried reinstalling in both 1080p and 720p, but at no success. Suggestions?

Also, when I type "nano /etc/kboot.conf" it opens a new document, and doesn't let me edit the kboot config. Do you know how to fix this?

Trying to install 6.2 on a ps3

Tried to install "Other OS" off the DVD but the PS3 wouldn't read it.

Installed Other OS using a USB stick which seems to work. Rebooted the PS3 and inserted the DVD. It gets to the kboot prompt typing in the install command just returns "command not found".

Any ideas?

Have tried dvd+r burned at 8x, 6x and 2x but no dvd seems to work.

Have tried imgburn, roxio and roxio toast all to no avilal.

Any advice?

I can't get the screen with the two penguins to stop scrolling... looks like it is searching for keyboard/mouse. I never get to the kboot prompt. I have a regular dell usb mouse and keyboard. It will(after 10 mins, sometimes more) automatically correct the resolution and go into the install screen. but at that point the keyboard buttons will no longer light up. Any suggestions?

hi! all working nicely...can get into the ps3 os ok and im in YDL linux without any trouble. The only slight thing is I can't use the internet using my wireless connection. I go into preferences and activate the wireless connection and it says it fails.

I'm quite sure I could easily fix that at the cost of having it a wired connection...but maybe i need to download something to let me go wireless...any ideas?

i risked it...its installing linux... after i clicked yes it just went onto the screen that the vid was on...so linux is installing ok...but ps3 os could have been deleted...i'll find out soon...

the ps3 os is not installed on the hard drive, so it wouldnt be erased

ok fair enough...you don't want to say what to do cos it could mess it up...but even if it does del the data on the drive it won't matter cos i have the other drive to use anyway...whats the worst that could happen :\

ok just swapped the drive around with my old one...same error? Just to recap the error says

the partition tables on dev/ps3da were unreadable. to fix this the drive must be initialised causing the loss of all data on this drive. are you sure? (yes/no button)

Would pressing yes even do any harm? Or would it just re-format the HD like ps3 did (I'll lose game saves etc)?

Could I press yes?

meaning your hard drive is bad, below the ps3 theres a door, you need to remove that door and take out teh hard drive and put anotehr one in

you probably are experiencing the worse case scenario, meaning your hard drive is failing, its a hardware issue, nothing to do with the format, try swapping the drive and trying agin

I just fixed the problem by doing a quick format and installing other os again...now I'm back to the old problem...I'm trying another full format to see if it fixes it...any other ideas?

Hi again, thanks for your quick reply. I did a full format overnight and in the morning it said the HD was corrupted and needed formmatting. Click ok to format, it did a real quick format. Restarted ps3 chose boot from other os. Got up to the keyboard preferences screen and when I click next it just freezes?

Also, when I went to backup my saves I got an error saying the operation could not be completed. I looked it up online and found it was probably because the hard drive was corrupt or something and needed a format? Although I managed to back up the saves by manually saving them to my USB.

hey there, there could of been a issue with your software interfering with your ps3, I recommend full formatting, it will erase every little bit of data that could go wrong witht eh install, the fast format erases all the little things but not everything hopefully that helps

Hi there...just followed your awesome tutorial. Got up to the bit where you boot up YDL for the first time. When I pressed next button after selecting my keyboard layou, it gave me a warning saying the partition tables weren't readable and to fix them I had to reformat the drive which would erase all data. I clicked no to this and clicked next. I selected the partition option like in the vid but when I clicked next it said no drive selected. No drive options were available. Thanks 4 the help.

I got to the point where it was validating the resources for the selections web office etc. It started and after about 60% completion it simply stopped after an hour it hadn't done anything so I had to simply power down I did the ps3 boot and it could not find the PS3 boot area I put the linux disk back in no go. It seems I lost the partitions... how do I get them back it is not recognized by the PS3 anymore I assumeit is sata and I have no other sata based systems. Any ideas??

After I typed "install_ps3_480i", my installation cut to a blue screen that said "unable to instantiate a X hardware state object" at the top, and gave me a number of partitioning options? I've tried reformatting a couple of times, but it just seems like it's not recognizing the partitions that are created. Have any ideas for me?

could be that isnt your tv's maximum resolution, have you tried restarting your system? if you dont see nothing at all, turn off the ps3, then turn it back on and hold the power button till you see something on your screen, then continue from there

it wnot be the same unless you have a seperate partition for yellowdog which requires a format, if you have another partition already then it shouldnt require a format, but a format is pretty much needed because it wont know where to install

well i fixed it i had to type in boot-game-os...so it wouldnt work if i typed ps3-boot-game-os but it would with boot-game-os....im gonna redownload it and then burn it again an hope it works...

ok try this, when you reburn it burn it at the slowest speed to insure it will burn sucessfully, dont put automatic or maximum speed when burning, also, since you failed the first install, go ahead and format again so it will start fresh instead of mixing up with the failed installed files let me know and ill try to help you out

ok which install screen? the one with the 2 penguins or the bluescreen? when you took it out did you take it out when it was finished or before to cancel and restart the installation process?
