  • In xray mode, can you look true peoples clothes???

  • 1:10 WTF! Its like fucking Pokemon hahahaha

  • Check out the Layar app on Android, kinda on the same line

  • Seems pretty cool. An app on the Iphone called "Aroundme" will show you the stores and whatnot around you using the camera on your phone, but it's not the most accurate thing around. :P

  • Comment removed

  • I hope this doesn't lead to something censoring reality, like obscuring cellphone pictures, idk.

  • sounds a bit like poke'dex

  • i want it

  • augmented pussy anyone?

  • they should use this with a real map but virtual objects using vr glasses :) for the game

  • ......i think i just jizz'ed in my pants.....

  • its not even new, chec out a console called 'Gizmondo' that never actually sold much because of some kind of an accident. it had augmented reality games, just as that here.

  • this is so cool! Wish to get my hands on this technology soon.

  • Dont worry about Augmented ID. The information is out there anyways.. go online, youll be surprise what you find. Your info goes back to previous address, current address, phone numbers, emails, social network accounts, employers and family members. All for free in one place.. I was scare too, but theres nothing you can do to prevent it..

  • couldnt find anything on myself or family

  • ive seen this in a shop before its really cool

  • hmmm this seems abit too high tech...is it possible..

  • Lolno. It's a joke.

  • i dnt think it is tbh!

  • This is amazing.

  • holy.. this is exceptionally creative! keep it up guys! :D

  • I like it and I don't like it. Augmented ID takes away all privacy and if it ever does come out it should be optional for someone's name and such to show up. That person has to validate the use of face recognition for themselves before it could become public information for anyone to view.

  • we are lucky to live in this century

  • sounds like new ideas for video games....but seriously...that iStalk app isn't cool.....

  • coo how long we gotta wait

  • That sounded good until the virtual IDing thing, anyone would be able to look up who you were

  • I will tag everything with "This big | |"

  • what MAKEES us HUMAN fucking GONE>

I reali Wish or thinK sumONE like A terminator code go out there and Fck them all

  • So you'd rather stick with being a caveman instead of moving forward?

  • there's a different way to move forward for some people. What do you think is better? Trying to change the world like Hitler and his Nazi party tried to do? or keep it the same for thousands of years like the Christians?

  • Lmao wow dude your views are all wrong. How can you associate such a wonderful thing like technology with such a shitty thing like Hitler?

You're contradicting yourself anyway. You're using a computer and going on youtube and commenting and shit, all the while calling technology evil? If you want, go live with the Amish.

  • Augmented ID = privacy gone

If she would point that device at me, I would break it of her head.

  • crazy!!! most of this is cool, but the augmented ID idea sounded like too much. What exactly are they hoping to show about a person, and what will hackers and thief's do with this? Just the thought that cameras in your town might involve face recognition is whack to me!!!

  • Will it be able to identify me from a photograph of my nob?

  • Once this technology is more widespread and refined, new cities could be added to GTA in the time it takes you to drive up and down every street. Well, thats kinda monotonous, but you get the point

  • I hope nobody is able to find out who i am by holding a phone to my face. scary.

  • excuse for RFID tagging everyone and everything... good idea but.. gah

  • instead of having rusty ugly signs on the road just have these virtual signs displayed on your car screen.

  • OMG! That's really a look into the future!

  • How about: instead of phonecams use glasses or goggles and change an empty field into a lifesize COD4 map you could use for painball fights or such.

  • that is what i was thinking. it would really be convenient if combined with a working version of the Bionic Contact Lenses sciencentral reported on.

  • saw this on eden of the east and it seemed really cool.

Would be awesome if the community could build on it like wikipedia etc.

  • wow it remind me of ghost in the shell.i love it.

  • If someone could develop better eye displays with greater visual field and depth simulation ( stereo optics, artificial focusing depended on eye readings, etc) then this type of technology will reach it's greatest potential.

  • somehow it reminds me of call of duty

  • i am someones look alike. so will they see his profile through a phone when they view me? XD

  • If it lacks dimension then it would be less complex, as more dimensions the more complex the fundamental measure of anything would be. But that argues against what you are saying about a "creator" and causality. Causality has further implications because of it's inherent relationship with thermodynamics.

The principle aspect of which is that an effect cannot be greater than the cause. Thus the multidimensional effect of the universe would be greater than your "nondimensoinal creator".

  • ur such a smart ass, nobody's even reading ur lame wanna einstein comments.

  • First I would like to point out the the seat of consciousness and intelligence has been attributed, though not wholly, to the brain. Not the posterior. So it is not possible to have a smart ass. As to being "lame", my comments are like water compared to the wine described by the best scientists on these subjects. Though everyone drinks water.

"wanna einstein"? Whatever that is, why the show of anti-intellectualism? Do you think you have some nobility in a show of willful ignorance?

  • wtf? LMAO I swear I didn't read all of that hawt mess dude, when u come back to earth and decide to talk like us humans, then it will be my pleasure to even mind understanding you lolol

  • just Google that stuff

  • That comment was obviously not meant to be taken literally. Are you such a "brain" that it inhibits your social skills? Just because someone may not be as linguistically inclined as you are, does not make them not intelligent. My apologies for reviving a month old argument.

  • @Squish888

When someone substitutes an argument for name calling when you are in the discussion handle it in your way. I thank you to let me do the same. The comment received as serious an answer as it warranted, which is none. Apology accepted btw.

  • to say, say nondimensional is also to infinitely dimensional, or rather not tied to a dimensional law. Clearly more complex

  • Oh I see what you are saying Saromatae. Even if there was a creator and it is nondimensional as bringdbeatback says, then It couldn't possibly be the first cause of the universe because it would be breaking the laws of thermodynamics. If it did, that would mean that the multidimensional universe or "effect" would be greater than the nondimensional creator or "cause" and in thermodynamics the effect cannot be greater than the cause. I didn't think of that.

  • bringdbeatback Says:

"Causality and the fact that space-time has a beginning implies that this Prime Cause is non-dimensional and independent of space-time, i.e. a Creator."

After having proved that spacetime had a beginning, something that would undoubtedly have won you the Nobel prize in physics, it would not in fact imply that it is non-dimensional. I am guessing you mean dimensional as in the measure of spacial aspect. Though if something is "nondimensional" then it lacks dimension, CONT

  • it is well accepted that space and time have a beginning. this not a radical new concept, it is quite common

  • bringdbeatback says:

"Since space-time has a beginning there was a first physical occurrence."

Well that is wrong five different ways from sunday, but at least you are watching science programming and I hope that you continue your education on this. On this very subject you are poking at I migh suggest a good author is Brian Greene and his book "The Fabric Of The Cosmos". He uses lots of fun analogies and examples to put across complex ideas, making Physics an accessible and exciting subject.

  • brave words

  • bringdbeatback Says:

"It is a fundamental law of physics (causality) that every physical occurrence in the universe has a cause."

This is somewhat Newtonian, a little out of date. I suggest you brush up on your physics if you wish to use it in a discussion. Try reading up on the some recent theories like relativity and quantum mechanics. The causality you are speaking of here still remains valid at the human level of experience. But is no longer the accepted view of physics.

  • To clarify, it is not that causality is in anyway shown unnecessary in relativity and quantum mechanics, but simply that it takes on a whole new level of complexity. One aspect of causality, that the cause precedes the event, is shown inaccurate at those levels. However the idea that every event has a cause is still true, but the cause is not bound to be before(as we know it) but simply separate or outside of the event's influence. An event still requires a cause.

  • That thought flashed through my mind this morning, but was soon swept away by the smell of Folger's Crystals brewing in the kitchen. =oP

  • Thats just plain creepy.

  • what the fuck.

  • 1:17

    :|

  • indeed

  • this cant be that far away i mean really if someone where to call you and be like where you at you would be like youtube i mean how far has internet gone where a webpage is a locationg

  • Yikes all this stuff is cool, but were seriously redefining reality here.

  • The internet and the real world are starting to overlap, incoming merger.

  • yeah, it's kind of like an anime i watched called Serial Experiments Lain.

  • 1:04 They're not just real objects - they're SKITTLES!

    No seriously, they are.

  • nice catch

  • Nah, I saw some other video on this technology. I suspect it's more like a nice bit of cross-promotion.

  • i imagine myself on the street, watching thru my phone: douche, douche, married, money, douche, etc...

  • This is a pointless invention they already have this "augmented reality" it's called religion, you can see things that aren't really there, no hardware required. All you have to do is close your eyes tap your heels together three times and repeat over and over "I do believe, I do, I do, I do!!

  • wtf are you smoking?

  • why do I believe in God?

It is a fundamental law of physics (causality) that every physical occurrence in the universe has a cause. Since space-time has a beginning there was a first physical occurrence. Causality requires that the first physical occurrence had a cause. Causality and the fact that space-time has a beginning implies that this Prime Cause is non-dimensional and independent of space-time, i.e. a Creator.

  • dont act like you know.

  • You cannot make the claim that your particular choice of god is separate from space-time and is "non-dimensional".

What proof do you have of your claim? If our forensics worked like that we'd be screwed three ways to Sunday. You don't just look at a crime scene, infer a best guess, and call it a day.

You have to do testing. When you can provide results that god is extra-dimensional free from space-time, the world community will be waiting eagerly.

  • Its going to be great to tag people then roll you phone over them to see if the guy is a "twat".

Or in a club as a dating aid, " 1/5 stars, skank......has crabs"

  • Best comment ever.

  • lol...!! i thought the same!!! haha

  • Can I have one so that when I squish someones head with my fingers it explodes? o:

  • The game idea was so novel - the problem is integrating it without people ragequitting

  • 0:24 - 0:53

The 3D map of San Fransisco.

The full video is more interesting, you can see it here.

    watch?v=IXt21v8Hjhw

  • wow!!

  • El futuro nos alcanza, y la realidad nos aumenta?

  • this is just unreal!!! honestly man... woah!!!

  • Let me check who this guy is? Ahhh right his name is John Smith, has been an Alcoholic for the past 5 years. Divorced with 3 kids from 3 different mothers. Believed to have suicidal tendacies, and has been known to attack strangers who point cameras in his face......

  • This is old news. I believe it was already posted on New Scientist 6 months ago..

  • All the stuff on the NS youtube account is published on the NS site months beforehand,

It's a way of protecting the exclusivity of their readership

  • Cool but the scanning thing, I think, shouldnt reveal too much info about a person. Maybe just if theyre a serious criminal or sex offender or serious bad stuff?

  • it doesn't create info, it merely displays previously existing info.

To use an example of an internet connected application, It will only reveal as much info as is freely available online.

If you don't want naked pictures of your appearing, maybe you shouldn't have uploaded them to your facebook profile.

  • scary yet interesting

  • I have to agree: this technology could be very cool and very useful... but very very scary. Someone can scan your face and do a quick search to see if you are a potential target for, let's say, kidnapping.

  • All technology has the risk of being used in the wrong way.

  • Information is a powerful tool.

Just like any tool, it can be misused. But we don't go banning tools.

Just as an off the cuff example: The 911 hijackers would not have been able to crash the planes into the WTC if no-one knew where the WTC buildings actually were.

A ridiculous example perhaps, because how could people possibly be ignorant of this information - and how could such common freely available info possibly be censored?

But most plans to censor information are just as ridiculous.

  • i love it, cool stuff

  • what mobiles have these programs? I wanna have'em.

  • this is like ghost in the shell lol

  • (A lot) more like Eden of the East.

  • Very scary and very cool at the same time.

  • Locative art a'la William Gibson's Spook Country anyone?

  • this is awesome

  • very scary. control control control.

  • scary :-/

  • I lol'd as i ROTF, then I logged.

  • thats pretty awsome stuff

  • spook country

  • sick :)

  • this is a bad idea, think of the improper use of this augmented id, are we now going to have to camo our faces?, at 1:15 what is she looking for, (dik size). I will switch on my PESDD.(Personal Electronic Surveillance Deactivator Device) and go shopping at the mall.

  • its called privacy options

  • thats so awesome its scary. "Enemy Sniper, 600 meters. Firing a shitload of missiles"

  • WHAT!!!!

  • how distracting would that be when your trying to give a speech .

  • holy shit science is awesome :D

  • I'll bet most of you babies haven't even read 1984.

  • Just to be safe, I should probably clarify that my statement is directed at the people who are afraid of this thing.

  • WAKE UP PEOPLE

How do you think a phone would know your profile?

  • that is amazing. its impossible 2 imagine the possibilities (good or bad) of this! i hope it becomes widespread, and possibly free.

  • wonder if this can be developed in glasses

  • i love it how people think this technology would be used for good purposes,

  • so how can it be used badly?

  • Just imagine all the military capabilities that could come from this.

  • no, i don't mean it will harm people, just it will only be used for games and entertainment, i think its real world applications won't be used much at all

  • no matter how you want this to be real, it is fake.

    ~Common sense?

  • Totally awesome.

  • btw, a camera like this has been available for ps3 for a while, though there arnt a whole lot of games supporting it.

  • shitdick? Now that's funny!

  • that game looked really fun =]

  • This is a little too useful...

  • this looks awesome. If the future of gaming is anything like that count me in!

the profile thing is kind of scary though. I understand that we have access to information about people via the internet, but... instant id access of strangers is..... creepy?

  • I wish I could have glasses on which I could get that ID-check. That way I don't have to point at someone - how rude! - to check out the person's name if I forget.

  • wow, technology and science are really good friends!

  • Scary shit. We will all be stalking eachother. Next will be a mind reading app. We are near the end of time.

  • I expect that to be on Playstation 4..!

  • That's pretty awesome.

  • The DSi is getting a game that uses augmented reality, it's a sort of ghost hunter game, Ghost Wire is the name if I remember correctly.

  • brilliant !!

  • This looks so amazing

  • SCIENCE IS AWESOME

  • thats unbelievable...

    awesome

  • 2014, Hell'o Wilson.

    Tvs are computer monitors.

On the other end is some douche looking up your last lecture. Eventually one of you will be made a criminal.

    Here we go....

  • this technology is horrible if police and military is going to use it. Goodbye freedom.

  • Newfag troll is newfag.

  • there is always freedom..if u can use technology to make people's life a misery you can use it to help them! all the things are there to use for the good or for the bad..that's why through bad things you can do good things and vice versa

  • sadly, ona5252, humans by nature are lead to selfish, self serving, and evil habits and acts.

  • yes I know the majority of them are assholes..but one good guy is better than two bad guys

  • true, but thats one good act for every 2 bad acts. get up to 18 good acts and you have 36 bad ones. 27 good acts followed by 54 bad ones , ect.

  • one good act at the end will wipe out all bad acts..and one bad act at the end will wipe out all good acts(the end is a posible limit to something like a job,not the actual end of time cuz that will never come)..there is always hope if there is one good or one bad cuz these two are equal in power and there will always be balance between them..never will be there only good or only bad becouse thats imposible..its useless to live without something to struggle for.

  • Though your point is mostly valid the idea that good and bad are in balance in fact only persists because the relative judgment of what is good and what is bad changes over time; the life of an impoverished dark-age peasant might seem to be mostly "bad" in the eyes of modern men, while in the relative judgment of the farmer him self it may have been either good or bad, or more likely neutral. Also remember that good and bad will only persist as long as humanity, death and change are absolute

  • What year is this?? Daammn were progressing fast, next step is phones with hologram video, and jet packs

  • what has science done

  • more good than religion has

  • Science feeds most people on the planet. Without science probably you would starve to death. It is impossible to keep population this size alive without science.

  • That's why in all their publications they openly declare their de-population agenda. They want to cull the population of the planet by 90% of all its "useless eaters" (namely, us) - those who --by their understanding--are "junk genes", bottom of the evolutionary heap. David Rockefeller, Prince Charles, Ted Turner, Jacques Cousteau, David Suzuki..the list is endless are always prattling on about "too many ppl, too many ppl..". Search: Georgia Guidestones and take it from there.

  • too many people doesnt mean that we should kill people we should just breed less. All habitats have their limits. In nature it controls itself extra animals die out of starvation is that what you want for humans? well its already happening.

  • They've been using soft-kill weapons on us for decades! See Galton Darwin's The Next Million Years & Koestler's Ghost in the Machine (1950s) -both set out the methods. See too The Impact of Science on Society & The Scientific Outlook by Bertrand Russell (1930s). He writes: through injections & injunctions a revolt of the plebs will as likely as a revolt of the sheep against the practice of eating mutton. My fertility is one quarter my father's! The UN publish the figures annually without fanfare

  • IM totally against eugenics. And just because some people are for it it doesnt mean that the earth is not overpopulated. Im not for imposing any population control but if we wont stop breeding we might just run out of food supplies and space. Earth has only so much.

  • you've fallen for the media propaganda ..you can fit the entire population of the planet (nearly 7 billion ppl) in the State of Texas alone, each with a good sized plot of land. Research who owns the mainstream (& most of the so-called 'alternative') media. I've researched this. It's utter bollocks - Earth can comfortably sustain twice its current population but the fact is, an intergenerational elite that's guided planetary affairs for a long time, downloads you with lies that serves its agenda

  • No you cannot we already have people starving meaning overpopulation. If you put so many people in texas everybody would starve to death. And maybe mathematically it is possible to fit so many people in a state but it never will work in practice. Funny u say government propaganda since im from another country and i dont really listen to the US government. I just look at the statistics and starvation and forest lost in certain places and overfishing and it becomes obvious. I do the real research

  • Third World etc. Why? B/c the wealth/ natural resources belongs to a tiny few. The Earth is a horn of plenty & there's more than enough to go around but the economic system is designed by & for those who peddle you these fictions as to why starvation REALLY exists. It's the system to blame not the population, not the Earth. & i'm not from the USA. Don't know why you assumed i was. But pls, read my comment attentively -whichever country you reside in, the media is owned by the same global elite

  • ..and while you may be against eugenics, what do you think an 'elite' is? It's a eugenics club. Read my comments. They believe in the Doctrine of Evolutionary Theory, that by virtue of their having been able to retain their enormous wealth intergenerationally, there must've been an evolutionary split so that they perceive the world as divided between themselves and the junk genes (you and me). Eugenics has been diguised under the new name of bio-ethics but a rose is a rose by any other name

  • Doctrine of evolution LOL evolution is a Scientific theory just like gravity or germ theory. You familiar with those? There is no evidence against evolution and there is plenty evidence for it. Its been observed. Speciation (new species emerging) has been observed. And it explains why there are vestigial structures and why dna is so similar. and you can actually see where does the not useful dna comes from from other species. .

  • I'm MSc. Physics. I'm not decrying Ev Theory. I'm saying they have a doctrine that melds it with Hinduism and this is their belief system. Ev Theory was pushed in part to justify what Herbert Spencer described as Social Darwinism - survival of the fittest. Pls, pls take care to note the context of someone's remarks or you'll live in a state of perpetual confusion. Read over my comments. Weigh my words. Don't be contrary for contrary's sake --not a pointscoring contest. I'm trying to educate you

  • maybe we should switch from comments to pms

NOno social darwinism is not regular evolution. And evolution doesnt say that ITS MORALLY RIGHT for the fittest to survive. It just says that most adapted individuals do survive. It doesnt say its moral it just says its the case. Just like a theory that says meteor killed the dinosaurs doesnt say if it was moral that dinosaurs got killed it just says its the case. Im against social Darwinism!

  • I know what Ev Theory is; what Social Darwinism is. Let's not diverge from our remit. Having said that, it;s naive of you not to make the connection which is key to grasping my point. Moreover, it's not about what you're for or against but what those in power are for and/or against and they're hardnosed eugenicists. Read a precis of John Holdren's 1974 book penned with the Erlachts entitled: Ecoscience and look at my other recommendations. My comments here dovetail with the vid; the elite agenda

  • Yea but what does the groups believes have to do with my believes. And the idea of evolution. BTw social Darwinism could still exist if there was no evolution. I actually dont support Obama. I think his policies are hurting the economy. The only think i like about him is the stem cell research.

  • he's a puppet - he's not in charge...again, it's a false left/right paradigm that enables the controllers to divide and rule us...i must go - nice exchanging comments with you -i wish you well

  • you too. i still dont see how it connects thou.

  • he's Obama's so-called Science Czar. LOOK AT WHAT THE ELITE and their acolytes are publishing. You don't have to read between the lines. The agenda is a plain as the nose on your face. Don't allow the media to filter it for you. Go direct to the source and you'll come to share my views which are fact-based only. I'm not one for speculation.

  • Interesting.

  • not going to work until is added to a scouter that reads the power level

  • OH MY GOD. This is AMAZING. I just wonder how much money they actually spent to make this... XD

  • does the last app use facial recognition tech?

  • this video is filled with retarded comments.

  • yeah, like yours, lol

  • Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm predicting application of this technology in Warhammer 40k tabletop games within the next decade
