This is a quote from the actor in the film (Rajendra Kumar)..the director said ( to Naushad), "why such sparse use of instruments ? it is so empty?". Mr H S Rawail producer.... was shocked to see wen ..Nausad sahib....music directer brought only 3 musicians for the recording of this Immortal song...Nausad had to convince Rawail that..dats all he need for this song....and now every one knows ..its so so Brlliant....Must admit In my teenage years...Never liked Naushad's compositions...but now...It means lot to me...Specially koi sgar dil ko behlata nahi...bekudi mein karar aat a nahi

I totally agree with you - gafmirza....The world of Mohammad Rafi is pure and eternal and when he sings its like showers blessings. What raag, what sur, what voice, everything is there in this song..My God this is beautiful singing. And hatsoff to the lyricist of this song and last but not the least...Composition is awesome. But I can still rate Rafi sb. on top of everything. He is the winner here.

This is my all time favourite song. Rafi has filled it with emotions. Though Lata ji too has sung this number, but its no comparison with Rafi. The lyrics too are very heart touching. I love to hear it again and again and again.

Yes .. indeed one of the top listed songs in my all time favourite songs. Smooth and supple. Infact, one cannot praise in words beyond a certain limit, and Mohd. Rafi's voice was way beyond those limits.. Hear it ! and quench your thirst of your life.

Some people say this is a very long song... I say even if H.S.Rawail just gave me this song in entire movie, I wouldn't mind. I love all songs and the movie, such a nice and clean movies, mad after Johny Walker's scenes, keep watching it every other day and have memorised each and every dialogues.

I am 12 years older than you. Really appreciate your choice at this young age and in this era. You are right the Urdu poetry has given great sense and love to the human kind. Singers like Mohammed Rafi and Lata Manjashkar added melody and made this olden era of human poetry and music.

An amazing example of Raga Jhin Joti! Notice how the first stanza starts with a low note, while the second with a high. Ad in the second stanza in the lines - "Yaad hai mujko meri", and, "Meri rag-rag mein koi" notice how Rafi saheb stress on the tonic of the words "meri" and koi respectively! The always unparalled Rafi saheb!

Did you know....the great Indian composer Nausad was given a break after a dry period for this film. This is a quote from the actor in the film (Rajendra Kumar)..the director said ( to Naushad), "why such sparse use of instruments ? it is so empty?". The great Naushad replied " A poet is experessing himself, hence minimal use of instruments". Very true, it makes it makes the atmosphere what it is in the scene.
