As for this song, personally, I believe it's entirely a bunch of crap. You can chant and sing, you can meditate...but chanting a meditative mantra? I could be wrong, but I don't believe in that. Ravan was the last who knew the Vedas before things got so horrible that nobody knows the real information.
Every mantra you meditate on, is continuous. Say you meditate 108 times, take 1-2 days of break and do it again, it continues.
In Treta Yuga, Narayan said that in Kali Yug just chanting will achieve salvation. In Kali Yug (now basically), chanting and meditating have such a similar effect.
What an incredible energy in that gathering place!! :) Just amazing. I find myself humming/singing this while out and about and it just makes me smile! :)
I've participated in other styles of kirtans, some somber and ceremonial and others joyful and heartfelt like this one. It's all good, but I really soar with what you see shown here.
the holiness of a mantra is not in the mantra it self.but people who sing the mantra.Mantra is one of joy,of beauty, of love of peace. But some people want them to remain joyless, serious dead.Holiness is not for dead people, death is even considered unholy.Spiritual death is the lack of joy, so called 'devotion to the highest spiritual climax to create holy vibrations'.guys like these have missed the point of mantra...they have missed the whole idea of it.Holiness is a direct consequence of joy

this is a holy mantra - not a pop song!
this is to be sung in divine surroundings with devotion to the highest spiritual climax to create holy vibrations - not a tune to be whistled to and set to guitar playing - it is a shame and a sham that this kind of activities are promoted by this movement - please stop this kind of abuse of sacred Hindu rituals. I am sure other religions and traditions would not like it so why do it here!
dear Pauras, I thought the same till I attended a real Art of Living satsang in recently. There was so much Bhakti and abandon with which these verese were sung. I realised Guruji is trying to meld East and West so some differences in singing etc will come in. In fact remember gaurang das etc of Bengal abandon withwhich they sang and danced is what you see at AOl.JGD.
so what, they are chanting a holy mantra with all their heart, with love. dont you see any love and devotion in these guys singing. Do you know the saints in India would sing songs, I imagine not very differently. Singing is basic way of showing bhakti and love(if they are not the same already :)). Parus, attend an Art of Living satsang once, Im sure you'll go easy on these guys.
@parus21 Certainly there is merit to what you say. I can see how treating the mantras with deepest reverence and chanting them with precision, at a proper rhythm, with other instruments is most auspicious. I also think that this movement is doing a great service by promoting the mantras and having them sung, even if the way in which they are being offered is not the highest ideal. People around the world are chanting the holy sounds, who otherwise would not know them. It is a good beginning.
@parus21 : Every mantra is a pop song. If not, it would be worthless. There are no "divine surroundings". We live on a planet which has been continuously at war for over 3000 years. We live on a planet in which BP dumps millions of barrels of crude oil into the Caribbean Sea while its CEO goes on a sailing trip. We don't need "sacred rituals". We need Logic, Intuition, Love, and Truth. If jam sessions help with that, so be it. Om namo bhagavate vasudevaya.
And how would you measure the spirituality that is in the hearts of the people who are singing this? God has given millions of ways to express spiritual bliss, be it the music of a flute or a guitar, be it a whistle or a song.
All I can see in the video is people who are at a state of bliss and enjoying the holy music. There is no sign of disrespect. The infinite manifests in many ways and many forms of art, in different ways through different people.

@parus21 I agree with you.... It doesn't even appear that they know what they are saying, merely singing it because of the way it sounds. It's really sad. This is a mantra, not a baghan. Baghans are for singing, mantras are for chanting.
@parus21 it does not matter how you sing a mantra , soft or fast , quitar or without quitar... the mantra is the same mantra and you should understand what is it purpose not to judge.. the one that judge is not confident with himself..
all religios are the same but some are for the past and some for the present... the past was more simple and in the present we need more tricks to overcome our intoxicated mind..
@parus21 you have bhakti for GOD, u can sing it any way. How u can say these guys donot have devotion. I think u r not aware of Meera or any other great devotee of LORD
@parus21 Do you study Vedas ? Well I do ... There is one aspect of Vedas in chanting Mantras properly. This is by no doubt very powerful method. There is another method called Bhakti , it is no doubt very powerful, energizing and uplifting. Both have its own value , place.and methods... Without devotion all is dry.

There is nothing wrong in singing a mantra or chanting. Ignorantly or knowingly you will indeed get the blessing.
And what is wrong in singing mantra instead of singing something rubbish.

the intent and amount of devotion with which each of these people are singing/chanting is between each of them and Godhead.
