it is not the only supersonic airliner, the tupolev Tu-144 was the first supersonic airliner, a few years before concorde, and it looked quite similar

Actually the Russians beat Concorde in the race for supersonic flight but the Tupolev crashed twice and once atthe Paris Airshow, causing the plane to be grounded forever.

There is four settings for the nose.

1. Fully up with visor this is selected for supersonic flight.

2. visor down with nose up for prolonged subsonic flight

3. Nose 5 degrees down for grater visibility on take off and taxing.

4. Nose 12.5 degrees down for grater visibility upon approach and landing

In the news it was said that the French kept 1 of their Concordes and are fixing it up and improving it. But they are trying to find an airline that will pay the millions needed to make Concorde fly again.

Well to me air travel is appalling, no I don't want to sit in a crowded aircraft for hours, but I would have flown on Concorde. And as for the noise - I hate all noise, - except aircraft, OceanCityinc is right, it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

Good for Aviation not so good for Passengers. Though the COncorde would have been like luxury I would have loved to fly in it, but not at such a high price, Seeing it fly over head would be one hell of a sight.

Bloody noisy beast. Too much fuel and prices were expensive. Speed isn't everything. Hey what is the rush? Wouldn't you like to relax in the air playing pool or watching a movie without being pinned back in your seat due to g force?

Flying is a sensual art, concorde has died, end of the concorde era. When I saw concorde take off, some people fainted, some cried with joy, some screamed with enthusiasm. I stood there with earache.

Regardless of what BA wanted, without a certificate of airworthiness, an aicraft is not permitted to fly. Blame Airbus if you must blame someone. They pulled the certificate after Air France retired their Concordes.

Definitely a fitting tribute for the Concorde... I was fortunate enough to fly to New York to watch her make a final scheduled trans-Atlantic run in back in October 23.
