Fantastic thanks!! i rented this a couple of times when it came out when i was 8 or 9???, the flesh/face ripping scene at the start now looks just plain crap, but at the time it nearly made my sister spew and a friend of mine had nightmares (he was supposed to be the local tough guy too, he he).

Spielberg stole that shot where a person is carefully creeping around to avoid the threat of a dangerous creature, and then the hand of their friend falls on their shoulder from behind, spooking them temporarily but then lulling them into false security, before doing a double spook after it is realized that the hand is not really part of their living friend anymore! The exact same shot is in Jurassic Park with Laura Dern replacing the woman.

Those are, indeed, very acomplished effects for such a modestly budgeted film as this. They must've gotten a vey talented effects artist to work pretty cheaply.

The scene where they attack the old ladies brunch is priceless !!

The good looking girl, who sayes "What the fuck was THAT ?!!!", gets her head chewd off and then regurgitated out by the big monster,.. as I recollect.

Well... The effects are NOT impressive for it's time-- ALIEN came out a year earlier, and THE THING the same year. They ARE impressive for the budget, though.

@Vampyr789 The Deadly Spawn was never on the official video nasties list, but the video label it was on in the UK at that time (Vipco) did release a lot of nasties: Zombie Flesh Eaters, Driller Killer, The Bogey Man, Deathtrap, etc.
