i watched this when i was 13 and it scared the the crap out of me, i had to walk home from my friends house across an old field... i ran in pitch black terrified over that land...... i giggle to myself now when i think about it, great film tho very scary at time
THE DEADLY SPAWN! WHAT DO YOU DO! ... er uhmn, i become the narrator. i live forever. fucking nightmare inducing stupid shitcrap 80's movie. DAMN YOU!
This movie is classic! I remember watching this with my Brother back in the day. They sure don't make 'em like this anymore. Unless you count SLITHER that is.
Fantastic thanks!! i rented this a couple of times when it came out when i was 8 or 9???, the flesh/face ripping scene at the start now looks just plain crap, but at the time it nearly made my sister spew and a friend of mine had nightmares (he was supposed to be the local tough guy too, he he).
i like trailers that say or show the the movie title like 3 or more times, looks like a good movie, recommended for a splatter/horror fan such as myself?
clever campy fun and pretty scary as well as hiliarous seen the entire film on a bootlegged website the monster reminded me of audrey 2 from little shop of horrors movie from 1986!
Spielberg stole that shot where a person is carefully creeping around to avoid the threat of a dangerous creature, and then the hand of their friend falls on their shoulder from behind, spooking them temporarily but then lulling them into false security, before doing a double spook after it is realized that the hand is not really part of their living friend anymore! The exact same shot is in Jurassic Park with Laura Dern replacing the woman.
Those are, indeed, very acomplished effects for such a modestly budgeted film as this. They must've gotten a vey talented effects artist to work pretty cheaply.
The scene where they attack the old ladies brunch is priceless !!
The good looking girl, who sayes "What the fuck was THAT ?!!!", gets her head chewd off and then regurgitated out by the big monster,.. as I recollect.
Simply awesome ! One of the best low-budget early 80's horror flicks along with Evil Dead and Basketcase ! Hands down ! Impressive effects for the time as well.
Well... The effects are NOT impressive for it's time-- ALIEN came out a year earlier, and THE THING the same year. They ARE impressive for the budget, though.
The effects are INCREDIBLY impressive given the budget. XD Are you kiddin' me? People had to drop out of the picture because they couldn't afford the bus fare to Jersey!
For being made over the course of a few YEARS in one house by a mere handful of people, I think it's marvelous.
i got mine on ebay for about 13 bucks shipping and all. I think its worth it..But, I like cheesy 80s horror. I dont know what your into. I got videos up for some other movies i like..So you can kinda see my taste.
@Vampyr789 The Deadly Spawn was never on the official video nasties list, but the video label it was on in the UK at that time (Vipco) did release a lot of nasties: Zombie Flesh Eaters, Driller Killer, The Bogey Man, Deathtrap, etc.
good trailer, the monster looks well crafted at least it is a better monster than it the terror beyond space that monster was a ripoff of the thing from a another world!
I love this Film, too. Ich had it on VHS-Cassette and now on DVD... today I had written to the Director on the deady Spawn-Website^^ My english is very bad, it were better I say all in german: Ich liebe diesen Film auch. ich hatte ihn auf VHS und nun auf DVD. Habe heute dem Regisseur eine Email auf der "Deadly Spawn"-Webseite geschrieben^^
A grindhouse is an American term for a theater that mainly showed exploitation films. It is named after the defunct burlesque theatres, on 42nd Street, New York, where 'bump n' grind' dancing and striptease used to be on the bill.
Grindhouse films characteristically contain large amounts of sex, violence or bizarre subject matter.
A B-movie is a low-budget commercial motion picture conceived neither as an arthouse film nor as pornography. In its original usage, during the so-called Golden Age of Hollywood, the term more precisely identified a film intended for distribution as the less-publicized, bottom half of a double feature. Although the U.S. production of movies intended as second features largely ceased by the end of the 1950s, the term B movie continued to be used in the broader sense it maintains today.
Lol, this is a pretty good poverty row gore flick, with some amusing makeups, and a really obnoxious kid as the lead character, recommended for genre fans.
Press 4 for the funniest 6 seconds of the trailer.

Is there a difference between a Grindhouse projection and a B-Movie?

B-Movies try to do the best with what they have.
Grindhouse movies just try to cram in as much sex and violence as they possibly can.
