Can I ask a question about the upgrade to Windows 7? I have one of these laptops and would like upgrde but I have concerns about the compatibility of the ATK0100 ACPI Utility, which might cause problems with my hotkeys if it doesn't run in 7. Did you have to update the ATKACPI driver?
@bnchap Thanks for such a quick response, reading your blog it looks like the Vista drivers work on Windows 7 in this instance. I already have updated drivers for the LAN, WLAN etc. Thanks again, now I can ahead with my upgrade.
@crocodiIu ok so your telling me that its not just slightly impressive that a cheap crappy laptop can boot this quick and load a ton of apps???? not sure I get your point.... and it wasn't the fact that I was pround of it more of an example of if you buy a cheap laptop you could whack an SSD in it and achieve so really good boot times.
Strip the bootloader! Fix the symmetric multi processing boot glitch! Remove aero and other crap ! Remove all excess services!
It'll be a thousand times as fast. :D.
Oh, and for the hardware, overvolt the processor, and try to unlock the multiplier, then flash your bios so that speedstep will overclock your cpu automatically (until a certain point ofcourse..)
Then again, would you really expect a budget PACKARD BELL laptop to be fast? xD (not to mention the weird trouble PB has..)
Say what you want about XP and SSD prices. You could stick with XP if you want to that's great you have the choice! I'll take Windows 7 just for aero snap. Just for the record the latest version of Ubuntu boots uber fast on this SSD to.
SSD prices are so volatile at the moment, that there not worth the upgrade at the moment..... prices on some of the cheaper SSD's have rose a typical £76 the last week alone.
I would just stick with XP imo... its never let me down, and its still the fastest OS in comparison to 7 and vista (CustomPC, Bit-tech 2009)
Yeah... the Gateway FX is a decent budget gaming laptop. This video was just intended to demo the performance of a single SSD in a run of the mill cheapo laptop.
After seeing that, I'm glad I bought my Gateway FX. Of course I know it might be a little bit more expensive, but you cant beat the price for the quality. (NON-BIASED OPINION).
hey, i have the same easynote bg45-u-300, without the mods though....i have windows seven installed but the wireless is not working, how did you get yours to work ?? THANKS!
Hi. I have never done an official test to see how long the battery lasts but its around 2 hours depending on usage. The laptop is cooler to with the SSD compared to a normal spinning HDD.
Could easily be 2x faster if you ran proper dual channel memory (i.e. 2x1GB, 2x2GB) and not single channel memory (2GB + 1GB)
single channel memory may sometimes not present a huge difference, but it BOTTLENECKS SSDs

@angryafghan Its been so long since I've done it - I cant remember totally. You can grab the drivers from the link in the description.
However I think if you run all the windows updates I think you only need to install the app.
