About a year in the making of my bug, this is the video that inspired me to restore one. Damn that thing's quick! Sounds healthy. Makes my 1641 look like an 8 hp. Briggs & Stratton. Of course I only had a little under 2 grand in my engine, even with the big valve heads, 13 lb. flywheel, and counterweighted crank, etc. :))

its not that hard to build an engine like that, just have to do it right. i just build a 2.7L, i used cylinders from the Magirus aircooled diesel trucks, modded the block, and tops, a longer stroke, used 46/40 valves and camsaft marked N, i dont know the specks of that cam, And im using fuelinjection, but i use two doble carbs for the airflow, runs pretty good as well, going on the dyno saturday, cant wait:)

You have a very nice street car. That thing sure pulled through 3rd gear quickly. I'm guessing your sedan has about 180 horsepower. IMHO that is just about perfect for the street; still runs low 13's but doesn't pogo the front end through 3rd gear.

People who have never owned a hot-rod bug will never fully understand how the car nickels and dimes you to death. Even as a professional mechanic it was difficult to keep on top of maintenance. EFI and hydraulic lifters would have been nice.

They still do? I know they made them in South America for awhile through the 1980s (and 411s or 412s too) and they are still used in Mexico also a lot. I wish they will be used more here again. The economics of polluter idiots causing high prices will bring them back, fortunately for all of us. Small cars can be made safer with just a few minor changes that you would barely see (I can explain in emails). Beetles are safe small cars because they are made of steel, not plastic.
