1:27 - After Locke asks "Did you say that?" and Jack replies "See what?" , I just adore how Terry O Quinn captures the memory rushing over himself - the nostalgia and even love for Jack in that very moment. Very touching, very beautiful scene.
The main thing I disliked about Locke, was when he wanted to remain on the island he felt the need to prevent everybody else from leaving. He was the kamakaze pilot on Lost.
The whole reason why Locke tried to prevent the others from leaving the island is because he though they were there for a reason. If he hadn't have done those things, the island wouldn't even exist anymore! I disliked Locke for what he did at the time, but it turns out in retrospect he was 100% right to do it.
I love how this scene parallels two difference scenes, one for Jack and one for John. It obviously parallels the scene from the first season where Locke gets his legs back, but it also parallels the scene in the first episode of season 2 where Jack performs the miracle surgery on his future wife Sarah.
Remember way back in Season 1 when Locke said 'I looked into the eye of this island and what I saw...was beautiful'? To those who always wanted to know just watch 1:18 - 1:26. The clips of his memories in fact finishes on that exact moment when he did in fact 'look into the eye of the island'. Seeing into the life of things, the beauty in people and what we can achieve despite adversity, those are all the things Lost taught us and all the things which Locke began to see way back in Walkabout.
@ireallyamjoeking and thats way i hate that lustful Ben! Locke was the best character in this show. when he was speaking i was getting stronger somehow :( <3 fantastic actor
@KahlanPendragon Notice that the episode where Jack fixes his wife is Season 2 Episode 1 and "I'll see you in another life brotha" is also said in that episode.
Its because the writers knew all the way back then that Jack would fix Locke's spinal injury in another life.
the only thing I wish for LOCKE is that they would have had Helen there at the church. He really loved her and I felt they should have had him someone to be with in the end.I just love this guy..And the music and kicks in when the flashback starts up gets me every time..its incredible.
"I hope that someone does for you, what you just did for me" The way he says that, and just smiles with pure joy, how does one not feel anything from that?
i love how they still kinda argue lol, "were not going anywhere" oh jack .... great man , locke made you a believer in one life, and even another one.
John Locke is my hero. He had the most miserable life before the crash and he became a leader and a special person after the crash. It saddens me that they ruined the character by turning him into a smoke monster.
@Damon242 That's your opinion, I thought John Locke was the most powerful character and IMO they ruined that magical thing about him because of the smoke monster. I know his character was dead. That's just what I think.
This scene hits me harder than any of the others. John was such a likable character. I wish his "remember scene" had been longer. I was always enjoyed the Locke character, when he smiles at Jack at 1:34 it always brings a tear to my eye.
One thing that I really wanted was a Charlie and Hurley remembering somewhere, featuring the part when they drive around on the island in the van, laughing. That would be amazing.
@embracexthexstars1 I guess it was to show locke when he was a perfect hero during those first few days on the island. Before he became obsessed with hatches, blowing up subs, and being a leader.
@AmyJay1993 I thought that same thing too until I timed them all, Lockes was actually longer than quite a few of them.......... Maybe I timed it wrong.......
@GrinningTurtle42 You could be right, this scene itself may have been just as long as the others - it's just he only gets about 4 clips from his life here and it just seems shorter... =\
@mjdvfc Me too! The growth these two characters experience is one of the my favorite aspects of the show. I love this scene---it shows that John has already forgiven Jack for not believing him.
1) The editors were pressed for time. They were already way over their runtime.
2) Locke was the least stubborn and always had a strong connection/faith with the island. His awakening was therefore much easier.
3) Locke's happier moments were pretty much all in the first season.
It's probably a combination of all three. But I think #1 was the biggest. If you need to cut something out, Locke's awakening makes the most sense for reasons #2 and #3
The thing I find with these remembering scenes is that I say to myself I'll just sit and watch the one. By the end I'm like - hell no - I'm going to sit and watch THE LOT right now! Cos they're just that good!
I love how his flash only showed the pure parts of his island experience, which ended when The Smoke Monster encountered him early on. Ever since then, he was plagued with false purposes of opening hatches, pushing buttons, being led into a false leadership position, and being tricked until the day he died.
But those first few days, he helped people get food, taught Walt to hunt, and spent time with Boone, and it's great that only those moments were shown.
It's a bit sad that what Locke truly loved wasn't Helen. They made such a great couple. It's a shame they never got back together. But i understand how much he loved the island. That was his escape, the whole world shit on him. I miss Lost
But he truly loved Helen. That's the life he wanted, to be with her and to escape what his father did to him in the real world. In the Sideways, it is John who did something to his father, for which he carries the guilt that keeps him from walking. And in the Sideways, Helen does not walk out on John, she is the one who chose not to be with him.
@jabbamk1 :D I believe it was in fact another guy who made the account just to push the thumbs down. From The Man In Black to The Cigarette-smoking man: "Who will you order to do it?" - "I'll do it myself.. I have too much respect for the man". (Dialogue from The X-files episode "Musings of a cigarette smoking man" when they plan to kill Martin Luther King Jr).
Some people have been asking why he wasn't with Helen at the church and this scene shows why. He was with her in the sideways as a way of helping himself to let go of her, to have the time with a woman he loved. It would be wrong for her to be in the church because in the end she couldn't give him her love back. So it wasn't Helen technically speaking but like David, just an apparition perhaps of sorts. Nadia with Sayid was the same thing - she helped him get over the pain he had caused her.
My take, and this is just my humble opinion, is that Locke was always the one most in tune with the island so he didn't need much remembering. Jack, on the other hand, needed multiple instances (this scene, w/ Kate at the concert) to finally let go and remember. It also explains why Jack's "remembrance" was the longest.
@bchen0709 I think it's because those short moments in John's remember sequence were the only happy ones he really experienced on the island/to do with the island :( very few. Very few, but still as impactful and special, of course..
O'Quinn was really sensational on Lost. He conveys pretty much every emotion in this single scene. I do wish his "awakening" had been a little longer, bc in the end he was probably the show's most important character after Jack
This one is probably my favorite, but all of them are great.
This "remember" scene is superbly acted by O'Quinn, his surprised, confused look, then a face washed with the sadness of his life turns to a true happiness recognizing Jack, like a best friend or brother.
Fox emotes an excellent reluctance to let go, almost fear of the truth that lies in remembering, like before he went into the Hatch the first time, like he knew destiny was waiting for him.
@dagodauer Yeah Locke was a brilliant, well written character, and Terry O'Quinn was superb in the part. All in all, a very impressive show; I miss it too and wonder if I will ever see anything that good again!
Even though "Locke" came out as the enemy in the last season, I just really love this guy. He loved the island because it is where his miracle happened.
@toffy58 It took him the most time because he did not wanted to believe, he went trought the same path from man of science to man of faith. LOST is simply a masterpiece no matter what some may say.
the music was beautiful for all of the scenes and Jack's look when john said 'you don't have a son' was heartbreaking. I agree John's love was the island but still felt bad helen wasn't with him
@Garp397 I know - it was sad that John and Boone were the only two sitting on their own. I think they should have brought Helen in with John at the end, plus Ben could have come into the church with Danielle and Alex (I thought it sucked that he was left out!) then he and Boone could have had one each :)
1:27 - After Locke asks "Did you say that?" and Jack replies "See what?" , I just adore how Terry O Quinn captures the memory rushing over himself - the nostalgia and even love for Jack in that very moment. Very touching, very beautiful scene.

@dagodauer Yeah Locke was a brilliant, well written character, and Terry O'Quinn was superb in the part. All in all, a very impressive show; I miss it too and wonder if I will ever see anything that good again!

One of my favorite parts of the finale. It was like Locke was finally back.

Even though "Locke" came out as the enemy in the last season, I just really love this guy. He loved the island because it is where his miracle happened.

it took alot more for jack to remember, he remembers brief scenes with locke and kate, but when he touches his dads coffen, full on remember!:D
i love lost!
toffy58 1 year ago
@toffy58 It took him the most time because he did not wanted to believe, he went trought the same path from man of science to man of faith. LOST is simply a masterpiece no matter what some may say.

the music was beautiful for all of the scenes and Jack's look when john said 'you don't have a son' was heartbreaking. I agree John's love was the island but still felt bad helen wasn't with him

@Garp397 I know - it was sad that John and Boone were the only two sitting on their own. I think they should have brought Helen in with John at the end, plus Ben could have come into the church with Danielle and Alex (I thought it sucked that he was left out!) then he and Boone could have had one each :)

they shouldve made locke's flashbacks as long as jack's...someone on youtube remake it!
