Thank you very much for sharing. We were Boat People from 1979. This brings back alot of memories.. both good and bad-- mostly bad. We were stuck by pirates three times. They raped, pillaged, and abducted. 32 years later and I can still remember vividly-- their guns, machetes, and sickles. Many fellow passengers died along the way. We went through 5 different refugee camps in 3 different countries before coming to the US. Thank you UNHCR!

I'm glad my parents never went through this tragic. My parents told me they were the "lucky" ones. They had said that their boat although which had 100 people on board, were very organized and the food and water was contributed and split evenly amongst everyone. They landed on a series of countries and camps safely til years later they made their home in Perth. They now live a nice and peaceful live with most of my family (older siblings) who have become successful in life :)

My father organized a boat expedition from Vietnam in 1989. They were at sea for almost 1 month and luckily and coincidently they bumped into a philipino fishing boat at night. He lived on the Palawan refugee camp for 5 years till he was accepted into Canada. And 5 years later he came back to Vietnam, married my mother and had me :)

I knew a VN boat person who was attacked by these Thai animals. It was a depressing and horrific story. He said that the Thai pirates raped the women and took 2 sisters from his boat and were never heard from again. Most likely, they were sold into sexual slavery in Thailand.
