This video PROVES that they have the talent at performing live. Sounds very like the studio version, complete with vocal effects.
My impression from watching their other live videos, though, is that Avey likes to stretch and let loose with his vocals a bit, and they try and make things a bit different from the album versions.
@DerdleDoo not really... they're playing keyboards and samplers, pressing buttons to trigger different parts/chord changes/noises. it's pretty impossible for the three of them to play all the drum, synth, etc parts themselves.
Although this is a good performance and as good as its gonna get when replicatin the studio version, I honestly think that some songs dont transcend live. This just looks/sounds like some shit Ross from Friends came up with in his 'Sound' days.
This is some seriously good music. I feel like I'm one with the nature when I listen to their music in a trance. Animal Collective greatly enhanced my college experience
@IWantSky absolutely I do. I just meant that if you listen to them with headphones on its easier to understand, assuming you were saying that you don't usually. If you're talking about the meaning behind the lyrics then I guess that's a little different.
@dontcutyourhair I know what you're saying but you said that you'll feel differently if you listen to the song with headphones. InCahoots already said that they think the lyrics are coherent, so then the headphones wouldn't make them feel an differently
This is my favorite video. I'm not sure about favorite song.. At least they addressed "where is God?". God was in your head. I'm not even on drugs. This is knowledge.
@amorsm34 well, avey tare does sing on more than half of their songs. but panda bear is standing right next to him, singing harmony. it's deakin that's not there.
Why do I see comments saying this live version is lacking? It sounds almost identical to the studio version. When you're dealing with electronics, you cant' expect the sound engineering to be as good as the studio version. However, the vocals are absolutely spot on. In some cases even better. Panda Bear sometimes has his off days, but good lord, he nails this performance.
I'm an animal collective fan and everything but it's kind of stupid that in an interview these guys said they don't tour much and in this performance you can tell. If you're going to work hard at/for your craft, you need to practice it. Practice makes perfect.
@pokabeb I agree. Man, they could be more famous if they want. This is so original, they could be the revolution band of mainstream. But they simply don't want to be. Well I like this underground industrie but I would like to see these guys in a stadium or something bigger.
i remember watching a video of nick cave performing on letterman and the comments went on and on about how rude letterman was because he said what a privilege it must've been for cave to be on the show. turns out he's actually a fan of nick cave and was talking about the back up singers who were from cbs. people always misunderstand. it's just what he does, he makes jokes and banters. lighten the fuck up! jesus
Honestly, I wasn't expecting this to sound good live. I was mistaken. This is really good for an electronic, experimental band. Their true talent definitely shines.
Lettermans an absolute cretin. I think AC know what they do is far different than anything else, and for them to agree to go on a very mainstream show and then have the presenter mock them is an outrage, Panda Bear should of just swung for him and knocked that grin off his face.
The wallpaper joke wasn't funny but it wasn't disrespectful. The one at the end obviously bothered them but stop overreacting. I thought people came to listen to the music... my bad. Anyways, it was a great performance. I loved it.
