  • thumbs up for gravelly voiced men ;)

  • I love what he says about liking distorted music like that. I allways felt the same way, like mishearing lyrics of a song but liking the ones you heard better than the actual ones. And listening to music out in the street and letting the world add so much to it.

  • @lunkhead57 right on man, me to.

  • I love gravelly voices <33333

  • that's what's his name from the fleshtones. the lead singer.

  • where does one find this stuff? before its on gootube and... do you just ask a tv station for old tapes or something? excellent posting

  • what is this Travelers Cafe program? looks pretty shabby

  • oh yeah loved it

    jh

  • Anybody knows which year is this? 76' 77' ?

  • Rain Dogs came out in 86, so I'm guessing that's when this was filmed.

  • the girl at the beginning sounds like sarah palin

  • "Anywhere I Lay My Head". Beautiful.

  • whats the song at 0:50? its well good

  • It's "Anywhere I Lay My Head," the last track on Rain Dogs.

  • yeah! Just like Dylan, they both sound better after they blew out thier vocals!

  • many years ago, i heard Tom sing 'the piano has been drinking' an i was hooked!!!!!! he has never failed me yet!!!!!!

  • Youtube is an absolute necessity!

    Panta rei

  • nah...

  • Woa, did that woman say Tom Waits...?

The scope of Tom's following will never cease to amaze us...

  • They cut off the end of Anywhere I Lay my Head, though. There's a great old N'awlins horn break at the end that's just a pure fuckin joy to listen to. Hang Down Your Head is a pretty good consolation though.

  • Tom Waits is a pure, authentic genius of the music of the 20th Century.

We cannot imagine contemporarian music without his presence. There´s no Musician with the consistende of his music, always searching for new directions without losing that rare touch of The talent raindog. Tom is a wolf and his career is the paradigm for all that follow him. if you see this, Tom, take a plain to Lisbon. I pay you the fucking trip. You certainly sold out the Coliseum. I am Waiting for about 20 years!

  • Psycho...

  • now one is consired a psycho for not liking the internet?

  • I understand him totally. Tom Waits' music, in fact music in general is reflecting the joys of life, which the Internet seems hellbent to destroy.

  • Most things Tom are 5/5.

  • I loved what he said about time distorting memory being like water stains on wallpaper. When you realize the thing you love is something you created without even realizing it.

  • That's exactly what impressed me, too. Beatuiful image --

as though the water stains were part of the wallpaper design...

    Another favorite, deep Tom.

  • it's called anywhere i lay my head :)

  • great stuff this, the man is the genuine article, there's a lot of muck on youtube but this is the proper use of the medium

  • Cool!

  • Raindogs was a great fucking Album.

  • Thank you, jojo64!!! Goddam I miss the cutting edge.

  • Nice clip. That was from the Cutting Edge. A great early MTV series that was produced by IRS Records - back in the day when IRS was THE cool label. That's Peter Zaremba of the Fleshtones near the beginning standing between the two owners of the cafe and introducing Tom Waits.

  • LOL - I can't get over the Paul Anka/Tom Waits kid. Bizarre! Anyway, great clip, with Tom being disarmly and charmingly vague.
