I was 23 when this was aired and it was the most disturbing scene that I had ever seen on TV! BOB scared the crap out of me (I also have the same first name BTW) . I also was actually yelling "RUN! GET OUT OF THE HOUSE!!!" when BOB was chasing Maddie! Sheryl Lee should have been given an Emmy Nomination for that hysterical performance!
I LOVED Twin Peaks when I was 17, and I still remember this episode. Disturbing, but AMAZING for television. We watched it over and over. Violent, but wow.
I was obsessed with this show when it was on tv and I remember people catching me watching it and being like "Why are you watching this? It's so corny." I didn't bother to explain that I was drawn in by the awesome juxtaposition of the corny parts with the terrifying parts and the symbolism and the enjoyment of trying to figure out what the fuck was going on. I probably should have tried though, because those people are missing out on a fucking masterpiece.
I've never seen something so hauntingly terrifying, yet amazingly brilliant. Makes me think of Donna's quote on the second episode - "It's like I'm having the most beautiful dream, and the most terrible nightmare all at once."
I've watched alot of movies and tv shows but this scene to me is still the most disturbing scene after the Exorcist crucifix scene. It was so brilliantly captured. Whoever has this DVD collection tell me who directed this episode. Also Grace Zabriskie was excellent in the part.
The best thing to do with that frigging Tee-Vee is take that little daring out in the street, hang some garlic around it, shot the picture screen in the center with a silver bullet and then set that bastard on fire to make sure it doesn't come back.
I first saw this show when i was 6 or 7 (with my mother), I am now 26 and still have "bob" nightmares every couple weeks today.....Crazy how stuff haunts you like that
I saw this when I was 5-6 years old. Until 12 I couldn't walk in the dark without looking back on every step. On the bright side, it brings me other great memories.
@kfag101 on the twin peaks dvd special features there is a featurette which explains that they filmed a scene with Ben Horne as the killer before they decided who it was going to be, it has never been shown!
They could have ended the TV series with this episode, it was so powerful. It would have left people speechless for weeks. The killer revealed, and the final scene of the red curtians closing on Coop. TV has never been this daring since.
Very powerful and well-rendered scene. One quibble...no need to keep flashing from images of Bob juxtaposed with Leland. After once or twice, ok, we get it Lynch......Leland is Bob and Bob is Leland!
Oh thank you thank you! I've been looking for the original English version for ages. I must be dumb or something but all i got was Italian versions, French, with terrible voice-overs i.e. dubbing.... totally spoiled that scene. I love this. I can so relate to this. I never died, but this depicts the emptiness and falseness of the perfect small town life, picket-fenced life, all so great on the outside, but what happens inside? what happens behind the curtains? i could tell a few stories....
@harrydnet Yeah some of the padding was a little lame, but in fairness you can't get much darker than the last episode (and the final twist) of "Twin Peaks".
When this was originally broadcast it was probably the most disturbing thing I had seen on TV, thanks for posting the original cut in english. Maddy choking on her own blood always creeped me out!
it could have stopped also after the episode where he dies in prison. but then they should have cut references to windom earle etcetera. and people would have said "what about josie, what about jean renault, what about leo johnson,..." :) the only thing I don't like about twin peaks, is the side story with James and Evelyn
A very disturbing, violent and arguably offensive scene but one will agree at the same time its been brilliantly done, David lynch knows how to disturb frighten and fascinate his audience a true genius
You are such a legend for putting this up, you're right this is probably one of the greatest scenes in the history of television!
